#Aprella #SelfishLove ?It's a selfish stalkerish love & twisted obsession that Gary Wilensky had for his teenage tennis students. He fixated on one in particular, stalked & tried to kidnap her, failed miserably & took his own life but he "groomed" others like Piper Weiss (author of this memoir/true crime account) winning their affection by doing things like sending them handmade valentines, buying them candy & treats & paying attention to them.

Reviewsbylola I just got my hands on this one! Excited to read it! 6y
DebinHawaii @Reviewsbylola I hope you like it. I reviewed it this week for the book tour and keep thinking about it. 6y

Small Sacrifices | Ann Rule

Diane Downs took #selfishlove to the next level when she thought she could catch a man she was having an affair with (who didn't want kids) by murdering her own children. She unfortunately managed to kill one of them, and amazingly the other two survived- although they suffered terrible injuries. #ythoforreal #annrulerules #aprella #spoileralerthelostinterestrealquick

MelissaSue81 Did they make a TV movie about this? I think I watched it as a kid and was semi traumatized. 6y
Meredith3 @MelissaSue81 yes! Farrah Fawcett played Diane downs! I've never seen it, but I'm interested- hopefully it isn't too traumatizing though! 6y
DebinHawaii Great pick and great book--one of my favorite true crime books. The television movie was really good too. 6y

Henry VIII and #selfishlove seem to go together rather well. This is the first Gregory I read and one that details Henry‘s relationship with the Boleyn family, especially Mary and Anne. Told from Mary‘s perspective. #aprella

SheReadsAndWrites LOVE her books ❤️ 6y
GripLitGrl Love her books! 6y
Reviewsbylola LOVED this book. I tried one of her other books and bailed though. 6y

Pickpick

I honestly don‘t know how to review this book. I loved the theme of a long lasting marriage, devotion to one‘s family and yet the need for more. Maggie seeks refuge in her religion (I think) but can‘t resist James, the poet who feels like her missing half. Parts of this book were so, so good I could relate completely, almost painfully to Maggie‘s doubts and longin. In other parts I felt nothing at all and almost disappointed. #SelfishLove #Aprella

Bambolina_81 I felt the same. I really empathised with the MC but struggled with the more religious passages. This actually brought me to tears in places and I felt shocked to read some things that I have thought / felt but dare not say. 6y
DivineDiana Now that‘s a view! 6y
BarbaraBB @DivineDiana Yes, that‘s the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey 😍 6y

JoScho Beautiful photo ❤️ 6y
Reviewsbylola Sounds like it is a mixed bag. 6y
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen Yes I am in Istanbul for a few days with my daughter 💕 6y
emilyhaldi I agree with your assessment!! Some parts were beautiful enough to make this a "pick" for me ?? 6y
Cinfhen Enjoy! I‘ve always wanted to go to Turkey...safe travels 💖 6y
mrozzz FABULOUS photo!!! 😄👍🏻 Interesting assessment on the book... still on my TBR (edited) 6y

The uber decadent Duc Jean des Esseintes is sealed off in his own personal museum, consumed by a #selfishlove of the arts.
What could be more #badandboujee than a pet tortoise complete with a gold and gem encrusted shell! Fin de Siècle grotesquerie abounds in this bizarro novel.

This book annoyed the crap out of, especially because of several instances of #selfishlove. Some things are just not okay, not even for love!

#Aprella

Reviewsbylola I actually really liked this one, surprisingly. 😂 6y
emilyhaldi I‘m still not sure I‘m interested in reading this one 🤔 6y
Cinfhen I‘ve chosen to pass @emilyhaldi it‘s a YA right @Reviewsbylola @Kalalalatja 6y
See All 11 Comments
Kalalalatja @emilyhaldi @Cinfhen it is YA and I can‘t recommend it, so you will need @Reviewsbylola to convince you. I hated it 😂 6y
Cinfhen I‘m happy to take a pass😀 6y
SaturnDoo @Kalalalatja this book is AWFUL!!! I hated it too😝😝@cinfhen you are very wise to take a pass 😂😂😂 6y
Reviewsbylola Yeah I mean skipping it isn‘t the worst decision either. 😂😂 @emilyhaldi @Cinfhen I feel like I read it before I got so sick and tired of YA. My threshold is much lower now. 😂 that‘s my convincing 😂 @Kalalalatja 6y
Kalalalatja Very, very well done @Reviewsbylola 😂😂😂 6y
mrp27 Was not a fan of this one either. 6y
Zelma Joining the chorus that I didn‘t like this one either. I‘ve seen The Boy in the Plastic Bubble and Bubble Boy, so it was nothing new. And my tolerance of YA is much easier days! 6y
Mdargusch Perfect! Without giving the ending away, that selfish love in this book was beyond horrible. I loved this book @Kalalalatja @Cinfhen @emilyhaldi @SaturnDoo @Reviewsbylola 6y

An American Dream | Norman Mailer
post image

I‘ve wanted to read Mailer for a long time. This is one of the only Mailer‘s I own and it fits the prompt of #selfishlove, as the protagonist is running amok in NYC after murdering his wife. Used to a high class lifestyle, he is now a fugitive in a town that used to bow down to him. If you‘ve read this, what did you think? Any Mailers I should move to the top of my list? #aprella

emilyhaldi Love this cover 😍😍😍 6y
MicheleinPhilly I‘ve never read Mailer but I‘ve had this one on my shelves forever. 6y
JanuarieTimewalker13 I read the behemoth called Harlot‘s Ghost! I liked it but it had long, drawn out periods. I really enjoyed Why Are We At War? 6y

arubabookwoman It‘s long but I really liked #OswaldsTale, fictionalized life of Lee Harvey Oswald. I also loved the massive #TheExecutionersSong, which is NF. May want to reread that someday. 6y
