This is perfect for those who love to read about the Tudors. It is not narrative nonfiction (it‘s a dry narrative). I learned so much about Bess of Hardwick (whose 4th husband had the “honor” of hosting Mary, Queen of Scots during her house arrest years). Bess was unlikable in many ways, but she was determined and loved to build. For a woman in the 16th century, she had guts. I‘m choosing this for #SomethingWithAnUnlikableCharacter #Nonfiction2019

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Sounds fascinating! 5y

These essays are written by psychiatrists and other mental health professionals. Collectively, their qualifications are both boundless and stellar. No crackpots. And they make it clear they are not diagnosing 45. Instead, they are discussing whether he could be a danger to himself or others. Recommended for anyone with a strong stomach.

Samplergal It‘s really frightening isn‘t it. The whole family is simply awful. Currently reading (edited) 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Samplergal They are. How‘s the Kushner book? 6y
Samplergal @BarbaraTheBibliophage It‘s as you would expect. Lots of the same “ historical “ timeline. Lots of unnamed sources and lots of entitlement. Ugh. 6y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @Samplergal Sounds like a borrow, not buy book. 6y
jessinikkip Wow! Id love to read this. Too bad my library has stopped buying books that arent part of a series they need to complete or old classics 😕 6y
SaturnDoo Ohhh I so wish they would write a book like this on Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama too!!!! 6y
CaitlinR Thanks for the review. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @jessinikkip That‘s so frustrating! Is there a larger library that you can tap for ebooks instead? My city‘s library isn‘t bad, but more often I get ebooks from a nearby much bigger city library. Their selection is just more diverse! 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @SaturnDoo So, you made me wonder. I didn‘t find anything nearly like this for Hillary Clinton. I did find an clinical psychologist author who wrote books about the psychology of Trump, George W. Bush, and Obama. Tagging the Obama one, in case you‘re truly curious. (edited) 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @CaitlinR You‘re welcome! 6y
jessinikkip @BarbaraTheBibliophage unfortunately the biggest city near me is either 1 hour away, 3 hours away or in another state... One of the pains of living in nowhere lol I still put in a request at my library, maybe if I request it enough, theyll buy it to shut me up LOL 😁😁 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @jessinikkip Totally understand. I wouldn‘t drive to the bigger library either. But I do prefer their ebook selection. Maybe your squeaky wheel policy is easier, though! 6y
SaturnDoo @BarbaraTheBibliophage thanks. I am interested😊 I will have to see if I can find these at my local library!!! 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @SaturnDoo Hope you can find them. I‘ll be curious to hear what you think. 6y

Fascinating investigation into the harrowing story of the real-life girl that inspired Nabokov to finish Lolita. This book skips into Nabokov‘s life and inspirations, but mostly it follows Sally, the 11 year old kidnapped by pedophile Frank La Salle and taken across the country for 21 months. The author deeply investigated this story. She was able to speak to some witnesses and children of them with shocking revelations in ch. 29. 4⭐️ #BINGO!

MrBook Great review!!! 6y
Megabooks @MrBook Thank you 😊 6y
Cinfhen Oh, good idea for the #NonFiction2019 prompt!!! I bought this book on a #KindleDailyDeal recently🤓 looking forward to reading it now. BTW: did u ever read this fictionalized story about Sally Horner 6y
Megabooks @Cinfhen No! But I‘m adding it to my TBR now. Thanks!! I hope you enjoy this nonfiction. (edited) 6y
Cinfhen I wonder how they will compare xx hope you‘re doing well!!! 6y
Megabooks @Cinfhen I wonder what people would think of Lolita today in the age of #metoo and with the greater awareness of how many children are sexually abused. I think what people got from Lolita bothered Nabokov‘s wife, Vera. And I am doing okay. Not better yet but closer!! 😁👍🏻 6y
Cinfhen Glad to hear you‘re on the mend 🧡 6y
Reviewsbylola I can‘t wait to read this!! 6y
Megabooks @Reviewsbylola I think you‘d enjoy it! 6y
Reviewsbylola It‘s on my TBR so I‘m confident I‘ll get to it eventually. 😆 6y
Megabooks @Reviewsbylola sometimes I feel like the guy in the Twilight Zone. I just wish I could be alone with all the books and infinite time to read. Then I break my glasses! 6y
