In Cold Blood | Truman Capote

#StandAloneCrimeNovel

“No one will ever know what In Cold Blood took out of me. It scraped me right down to the marrow of my bones. It nearly killed me. I think, in a way, it did kill me.” —Truman Capote

I‘ve read a lot of crime novels and nothing has ever really got to me. But this did. That‘s where Capote‘s talent lies.

#MarchMadness

riversong153 I tried to get into this. I read it and it was really sad, I just couldn‘t get into it like most people did. I think my mind was clouded by the family that was killed and Capote‘s obsession with it. 6y
AshleyHoss820 @riversong153 I can understand that! I don‘t think it‘s a book you end up “loving” because that would be crass...😊 I think his writing of this is superb. He makes you feel things without you realizing it & not many writers have that talent. 😊 It‘s such a senseless, aggravating, sad family murder. Their story really stuck with me. 6y

TommieMarie74 @riversong153 I felt the same way. Yes, the writing is technically good but I wasn‘t blown away by it. I just felt kind of ‘meh‘ about it. 6y

Mister Memory | Marcus Sedgwick
post image

[March05] This book is a combination of crime + mystery + psychological thriller and I really enjoyed it. Marcel Després or Marcel Mémoire (Mister Memory) do not forget & has the perfect memory. But he is unable to filter what is important or relevant & when he was arrested and transfered to Salpêtrière asylum for the murder of his wife, his eidetic memory was not helpful.

Love Harlan Coben books and this would have to be my favourite of his standalones! He is a master storyteller, and the master of the twist. #StandaloneCrimeNovel #MarchMadness

Alfoster So agree! Loved this one too!😍 6y

Going very classic for #standalonecrimenovel , one of the first published detective novels. It‘s long but entertaining, and the MC or main narrator has a penchant for Robinson Crusoe...#MarchMadness

SilversReviews Love it. 6y
rachelk I think Gabriel Betteredge is one of my all time favorite narrators, what a character! 6y

To Know My Crime | Fiona Capp

#MarchMadness #StandAloneCrimeNovel #ThrillersSetByTheSea

I loved Fiona Capp's last novel, Gotland. I'm pretty sure this is the first time she has tried her hand at crime writing. It's been on my TBR since it came out last year and I will definitely get to it soon! Since it fits prompt number 7 as well I am knocking them both off together. If there was an "author who lives in the next suburb" prompt this would cover that too

somebooksaround 🙌this looks great! Love stories by the sea😃🙌 6y
