I haven't done any reviews in aaaaaaages so I'll try to get caught up with my book challenges for the year. I'm not mobile enough to take creative pictures, so they all have to be on top of my microwave that has been moved for ease of access to my table. :)

This was creeeeepyyyyy! If you love movies like The Blair Witch Project and Trollhunter, this book is for you. The rural Swedish setting and sense of tension are so well done.

vivastory I have this one I on my TBR shelves, will def be reading soon. I've been thinking of rewatching BWP too 3y
Cinfhen It‘s still a pretty photo and wowza!!! You hit the challenge jackpot with this book🤩🙌🏻 🎰 3y
ShelleyBooksie I really enjoyed the setting as well. 3y
ferskner @vivastory I haven't seen it in years and years and I don't know why! I think it's great. @Cinfhen thank you!! @ShelleyBooksie right?? I could picture it all so well. 3y

This is the second Harry Hole novel and the only one I hadn't read yet. Maybe one day I'll read them in order. Harry has been called to Bangkok to solve the murder of the Norwegian Ambassador. This was a fairly dark novel but also really engrossing.

Cinfhen Lots of people love this series!! I read a few but they were a bit too violent for me🙄 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘ve always wondered if I‘d like these. I‘m usually okay with dark stuff! 3y
BookwormAHN @BarbaraTheBibliophage They're really good but they are dark. His best is book 3 The Redbreast. 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @BookwormAHN Good to know. I am the worst about starting a new series and then “trying to make it last.” AKA forgetting how much I love it … 3y

Read this when I was looking for something fast and easy, which it was. I like the main characters, the pacing, the mystery, and the location. After a year in my house and yard, take me away to just about anywhere! Now I want a vacation home by the sea. But without the murders, TYVM.

LikelyLibrarian My favorites appear in the top row. It‘s been said before, but Piranesi is especially beautiful and unlike anything I‘ve ever read before.
The second row are good reads, 3+ stars all. Murmur of Bees is beautifully written, and Library of Legends gets a special shout-out for the gorgeous cover.

This was a strange little book and I‘m still trying to decide if I liked it or not. I worked part time for most of my twenties and Shiraha reminded me a lot of an old coworker. A lot of it hit close to home for me. 😵

My #doublespin book for May -- I wasn't sure if I would make it, but I muddled through. I think my biggest issue was that I wasn't sure WHAT I was reading. Supposedly, it's a novel, but it did not feel like it at all. I think I kept reading because I wanted to make sense of it, but I never did. Oh well!

Cinfhen I had HIGH HOPES for this one too but I eventually bailed 🙈 3y
SamAnne Same here. Some of the vignettes I really liked. It just did not tie together for me. 3y
TheAromaofBooks At least it's off the list!! 3y

Not what I expected-this is kind of like a cross between 1984 and Fahrenheit 451. Intricately plotted, there‘s a clever story in a story, as the protagonist is a novel writer, and I loved the way the two stories intertwined. The switches between main story and novel are tricky to catch initially on audio, so just a heads up there. #japan for #readingasia2021 and #translatedintoyourfirstlanguage for #booked2021

Cinfhen This has been on my radar for awhile / great review ☺️ 3y

A novella reminiscent of ferrante as it tells a story of a yng woman in 1930's turin Ginia,16, living in a house with her br, settled with friends + a job who drifts into friendship with older amelia, an artists model, and comes under the spell of a's male friend Guido, a soldier + artist. A tale of loss of innocence with in a changing italy.
