I wanted to love this so much but it was just too damn disjointed for my tastes. We're tossed into the book at the beginning, which reads like the middle. It didn't really come together for me at all, despite hoping and praying it would eventually all make sense. A few scenes gave me hope, but otherwise, it was not for me. I didn't care about the people. On audio, a lot of the dialogue sounded stunted, with lots of OKs and Yeahs. ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick "Jennifer" sounded like she was hopped up on quaaludes and perhaps I would've liked this better if I was, too. Part The Librarians, part Doom Patrol, but 100% not my cup of tea.

mcctrish The strangest book! I tried it on audio, could not deal at all, read in print = somewhat better but still bizarre 2y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Definitely a weird book … not for every mood or reader. 👊🏻 2y

The Personal Librarian | Marie Benedict, Victoria Christopher Murray
post image
Pickpick

A light pick, as the narrative started to drag a bit towards the end. But, ultimately, an important fictionalized account of Belle de Costa Greene, personal librarian to JP Morgan, and a woman who has a secret that could change everything. What a remarkable woman! Like any good historical fiction story, this makes me want to learn more about Belle…I had no knowledge of her prior to reading this book. So good that her story is being told.

Librarybelle Thanks to the publisher and to #NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Also, my first (!) read for #14Books14Weeks2021 @TheHeartlandBookFairy , my August #BookSpin @TheAromaofBooks , and my selection for #TitleIncludesLibraryorLibrarian for #Booked2021 @4thhouseontheleft , @BarbaraTheBibliophage , and @Cinfhen 3y

LikelyLibrarian
Piranesi | Susanna Clarke

LikelyLibrarian My favorites appear in the top row. It‘s been said before, but Piranesi is especially beautiful and unlike anything I‘ve ever read before.
The second row are good reads, 3+ stars all. Murmur of Bees is beautifully written, and Library of Legends gets a special shout-out for the gorgeous cover.

The Body in the Library | Agatha Christie

Stephanie Cole is an absolutely delightful narrator and I hope she does more of the Miss Marple mysteries. The story itself was fun, with several nice twists and fantastic characters. It‘s a story I‘ve seen on TV, but the clever twists mean I forget the solution every time, so it‘s new to me every time I read or watch it. 😂 #TitleIncludesLibraryOrLibrarian for #Booked2021

Cinfhen Great review 🎉you might like this one @BarbaraBB 3y
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen That‘s a good one! I‘ve probably read it in my teens (I read most Agatha Christies back then) but of course I can‘t remember! 3y

My first Matt Haig. A story about second chances and hope. I enjoyed it well enough, even if it‘s a tad predictable. Not sure I‘d go as far as picking it for GR choice award though.

The Paris Library: A Novel | Janet Skeslien Charles
post image
Pickpick

This is a dual-timeline novel, following Odile as she works at The American Library in Paris at the start of WWII, then also the lives of her and her neighbours in 1980s America.

Loved the library (great for Dewey Decimal geeks!): the other timeline felt a bit superfluous and almost YA in style.

I wish I‘d have known that it was inspired by a true story before I read it.
