I‘m trying to be very mindful of the season of #advent this year. I have 10 books left to read for my goal and for now this is going to be my bookmark. #weektwo #princeofpeace

I still have to finished part 6, but I'm wondering how reliable narrator Iris is and if she is 'she' from Blind Assassin part of the story?

#blindassassinbuddyread #weektwo

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘m wondering the same! 🤔 7y
Cinfhen Love your book cover! I'm pretty sure Iris is the she & Alex is the he @Riveted_Reader_Melissa and I think Iris is trying to "reconstruct" the past in her own way it resembles the truth, or her version of the truth (edited) 7y
Simona @Riveted_Reader_Melissa At first, I even wondered if perhaps she is the author of the story ... but in the first chapter we learn, that Laura left the papers in the Iris' bureau drawer ... 7y

Natasha.C.Barnes I've been thinking about that too and I'm not even at the end of this week's reading! Can't wait to see what we learn next. 7y
Simona @Cinfhen It's rare, that I like Slovenian cover more than original, but this one I do. I'm quite sure about she@he too, but my doubt is .... Laura is always described by Iris as simple and easy going and Iris is quite observing and thoughtful. In the Blind assassin part, characterization of Laura is more suitable for the 'she', than Iris. At this point, I'm a little confused 🤷‍♀️ 7y
Simona @Natasha.C.Barnes I expect some very bad things... My Slovenian edition have subtitle 'an epic saga about family secrets and political intrigues' and we still didn't came to the 'heavy' secrets or political intrigues... 😨 7y
Cinfhen @Simona I'm starting to believe that Iris wrote the novel as well but wanted Laura to receive the accolades 🤷🏼‍♀️ 7y
JackOBotts @Simona @Cinfhen @Natasha.C.Barnes am I remembering a line from earlier in the novel correctly? Something to the effect of, when you're the only one still alive -as Iris is- your retelling is the "truth"? 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JackOBotts Yes, it was very similar....she‘s the only survivor, so her‘s is the only truth that matters. “but is what I remember the same thing as what actually happened? It is now: I am the only survivor.” (edited) 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Cinfhen I‘m thinking similarly, but not the accolades...it‘s considered scandalous in many circles, she could attribute it to her dead sister and say she ‘found‘ it after her sister‘s passing to escape any censor or blowback, especially as the wife of a prominent businessmen. (edited) 7y
JackOBotts Thank you, @Riveted_Reader_Melissa !! That's the line...I remember mulling over that for a bit, but didn't write it down. 7y
Cinfhen True @Riveted_Reader_Melissa and she does seem peeved that Laura has developed a cult like following through her death & novel. It's almost like Laura doesn't deserve the recognition 7y
emilyhaldi @Simona think your point about Laura being simple vs. Iris being thoughtful is brilliant! I was feeling the same way and still leaning towards the "she" being Laura for that reason. 7y
batsy I was thinking the same as @Cinfhen but now my mind is all over the place. Could the he/she parts be Laura's written version of what she imagined took place between Alex and Iris? (When the girls were shielding him in the attic, Laura takes a piece of paper where Alex had scribbled some words... It sounds like he was making up the vocabulary for his scifi stories... Laura claims she will get rid of the paper. But did she? So many questions!) 7y
batsy You make a great point about Laura's simplicity, the way she seems to see things in black and white. So the he/she characters feel a bit simplified, not fully realised. That's why today I'm wondering if those sections are Laura's writing. As I read on later today I will probably change my mind 😀 7y
CafeMom This is a great discussion thread. Love all your thoughts. I too think the pair is Iris and Alex. 7y
Simona @batsy Yesterday I didn't managed to read a single word and I will read today the whole day, because - questions 🤔🤔🤔 7y
JenP @Cinfhen I think Laura is the author and I‘m wondering if she created the story in order to give Iris a different story than the one she had to live 7y
JenP @batsy yes! This is what I‘m thinking... Laura wrote the book and reimagined Iris‘ life. 7y
