Took ages to get going and I was totally confused the first 25% but that may have just been my tired brain!
An ok thriller.

Another buddy read with my kiddo. This one reminded me a lot of The Girl's I've Been (Tess Sharp) and Nowhere Girl: A Memoir Of A Fugitive Childhood (Cheryl Diamond).

First finished book of 2024! Turns out I‘ve actually read it before but I think I read it when it came out in 2012 and didn‘t actually realize I‘d read it until I was halfway through. So, in my mind, it was a brand new read for me. 🤣It was a nice way to start my mini vacation after working solid from the day after Christmas through the 4th. #ReadAway2024 @Andrew65 @DieAReader @GHABI4ROSES

Andrew65 Well done, and enjoy your mini-vacation. 👏👏👏 I‘ve done that with books before. 4mo

I always enjoy Barclay‘s thrillers! In this one though some things just happened right at the right moment or seemed coincidental & I usually don‘t get those vibes from his books. I predicted a couple of twists and was surprised some POVs were thrown in just to throw the reader off track & it didn‘t really go anywhere. That said, this was a fun ride & the twists are enjoyable as they come along. Curious what other fans of Barclay‘s books think!

I love a good thriller and Linwood Barclay is a great thriller writer. This is not good. In fact it‘s downright rubbish. I‘m disappointed in a writer who‘s usually one of the go to reliable writers of this genre.

“Can you teach me how to shoot a gun?”
I‘ve been putting off asking Ethan this question for a week? It‘s now or never. We‘re in his truck, headed to the farm, and there is a practice range there that Ethan and his dad use to sight in their guns before hunting season.

“What do you want your name to be this time? We have about thirty minutes.”
I stare at the muted television. The only light in the room comes from the flashing images on the small screen, one of those old Meg Ryan movies that‘s on all the time.

Barclay's books are always a thrilling read. I do love them so much. They're a slow burn but it draws you in until you just have to know more. The plot is told through multiple characters, allowing for more depth and understanding of each character. There is a lot going on so takes some following initially but it soon falls into place. The ending was very good. Not quite how I wanted it to end but for the book it was perfect. #Netgalley 4*
