This book is exactly what I expected with one thing I didn't quite figure out till the end. I had pretty good idea of the culprit from the beginning and their reasoning after learning more. I think the key to enjoying this book is in remembering that's it's YA. It was an easy listen and it had plenty of 90's slasher flick references. I enjoyed it despite figuring things out.

🦇 Bat. Always pick bat!
🦇 Tagged. You just can't ho wrong with old school Stine
🦇 I'm a screamer. I absolutely adore B rated movies and yelling at the victims. So much fun
🦇 I love the classics. Monster Mash forever!
🦇 This is like picking my favourite book. It's not possible. Every year I roll out NBC, Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, Idle Hands, The Shining and many more. There is no choice here

YA horror-slasher enhanced by good performances by the teens, especially star Sydney Park. #horrormovie #YAhorror #scarathalon2021 #TeamSlaughter
A little slow to start for my personal taste, but GOD this was good by the end! Very spooky, excellent relationship development. #yahorror

Y‘all, TIL that #YAhorror exists & is something I never knew I wanted but now I *need* MORE of IMMEDIATELY. Also I went to an all girls school for ten years, so the ways this book is punching me in the gut — WHEW.
Pls share any YA horror recommendations you may have! Especially if they feature femme/NB/trans protagonists!!]

A "cell phone novel" from 2010, this is a modern retelling of Dracula. It's a clever concept with amusing nods to the original and history (Tepes Travel, Bathory Catering), but missed out on the more fun Gothic atmosphere and sadly short-changed Quincy (my favorite). The gender role swap with Mina being the active participant is a nice twist, but Jonathan being awful still overshadowed her detective work with van Helsing.
