"For only a madman believes what every child knows to be true: there are monsters that lie in wait under our beds."

"No," I said. "I cannot marry someone who won't save his own sister. And I will die before I marry a person willing to sacrifice his calvary for a war clearly plotted by Kriantz for his own gain. If you want an alliance with Havemont, bring Mare back. I'll marry her instead. Gladly."
This was a beautiful and tragic book. I don't read a lot of biographies but this one really held my attention. There are some obvious biased opinions, but it is very interesting to see a tragic life in a culture I know little about.
I don't usually chose contemporaries so when I pushed to read one I'm really hesitant. The first few pages were a little hard to get through, but afterwards a wonderful story blossomed. Yes, I could guess what happened before it happened, but it was a nice, fluffy read for a few hours read.
"Arizona- the state that tried to kill its inhabitants every summer but made them forget about its attempt by being exceptionally kind every winter."
Great story, love the idea of Royce and Hadrian being these simple thieves and then getting shoved into political and religious warfare. Very serious situations and then tips of hilarity thrown in. Can't wait to continue this series.
I really enjoyed this book. I started off really not liking The girl, but really felt a connection for her at the end. I was excited to find out there is a sequel in the making as well!
-sigh- I had such good hopes for this book. I had previously read the 1st and I loved the different aspect of Wonderland, but this, I could barely get to the 100 page mark. Too shallow thinking. This girl turned into this "oh everyone loves me and it's such a big burden" -sigh...again- I bailed. Maybe in a year or so it won't be so bad...maybe...
He was a Sunai- nothing was going to change that- but he wasn't evil, wasn't cruel, wasn't monstrous.
Graphic novels are always considered life savers to me when I need a quick read. This one was...okay. It's obviously middle grade, but it also is a graphic novel so it's really REALLY easy. Almost too easy. Not saying it's a bad story, just saying it was too easy for me.
This book is really good when wanting to get a perspective of kids growing up in a not so perfect household. I read when I was younger and I thought a completely other character died, so I was surprised when that character made it out okay. Must read this before you die ;)
"People are users. It's universal truth. Use them, or they'll use you."
This book gave me sooooo many feels. For years I have wished to know what happened after Hogwarts and then this finally came. Everything is just so frickin perfect...so perfect. I can't even....-sigh- before this I finished the 4th book, which I was worried about, but it was the best surprise ever. So much in the book corresponds to this new one. I am so happy I was able to read this!
"It's a shame, starting out your first day on the planet as a murderer, but there you go. I didn't have much choice at the time."
"Asleep, he looked a lot younger than going-on-seventeen, but I had noticed that Johnny looked younger when he was asleep, too, so I figured everyone did. Maybe people are younger when they are asleep"
FABULOUS!!! This book is so good. I love alternative history and I love how the authors put themselves in there like, "yeah we know this isn't true, but we want a fun ending." Cover doesn't do it justice. I hope this book gets in everyone's hands soon!
Such a good book, I didn't realize it had such amazing illustrations in it and such a cute/morbid story of a boy growing up to a man. I can't wait to read it to my students!
"Does it work? Are they happier dead?"
"Sometimes. Mostly, no. It's like the people who believe they'll be happy if they go and live somewhere else, but who learn it doesn't work that way. Wherever you go, you take yourself with you. If you see what I mean."
Started reading this on the plane back to Phoenix. Love it so far! Hoping to read t to my kids when we are back in school time.
I knew this book was good before I opened it up to read it. Guess that's a perk of reading it late. I really enjoyed the good guy story that enfolded. At times I was so annoyed at Wade, but I still wanted him to win. It had a very good theme and the world was both amazing and terrifying.
Man, there it is...the theme of this whole book...and what should be the theme of this whole Earth 😘
Speaking as a teacher, this whole thing would be magnificent. No wonder their real world counterparts do not compare!
This book took me in and out of fantasy so many times. It was well told, had a good story outline in it and everything was tied up. It was also soooo nice to have it narrated by Michael Nesmith himself ❤️
Started this one this morning on my flight to Washington for a week vacation! Very interesting!
This book really tied up the series pretty well. There was a lot of moving parts especially when it came to Ethan's part of the story, but it came together nicely. I was really sad about the last death in the book, but sometimes a little pain is needed for the passion of reading it.
Things change.
Then they changed again.
Life was like that, and even death, I guess.
Such a cool book. Lila is still my favorite character. Such angst and awesome ability -sigh- I swoon for Lila. I was a little worried that this book was gonna turn into Hunger Games when there was a tournament but it didn't and it was awesome. Everything was awesome :)
"You're right," continued Rhy, "I should have just drawn a frowning face. But then everyone would know it's you."
I LOVED so much about this book. The plot, the world building and the characters. LOVED LILA! Such a good adventure book with magic everywhere!!!
"What have you done?" She whispered. She didn't know that much about magic, but she was fairly certain that bringing someone back from the dead was was solidly in the bad column.
Whenever someone asked what my favorite HP book was I would say #3 and honestly I was a little worried reading this again that it would change, but it didn't. I love the snark and the hilarity and the TIME TRAVEL OMG!!! Love love love it!
The first time I read this I had no idea Hermione was using the time turner. Reading it now having that knowledge is so fun xD
I didn't realize how accurate Prof. Trelawney was!
I was really disappointed with this book. I was super excited to see some steampunk Peter Pan go on but it literally felt like the author took those two, added WWII in there and mixed and said "yay I wrote something!" Characters were absurdly underdeveloped along with plot. I should've bailed :(
This story takes you into the city of Cier'Djaal and the horrible situations 6 adventurers have in its massive walls. The adventurers find themselves in the middle of multiple wars that explode and then get the responsibility of fixing it. Character relationships are incredibly good and believable.
I was lucky enough to meet V.E. Schwab this weekend and I really enjoyed all the panels I attended with her in them.
I was able to have this amazing author sign his book this weekend 😄 I love the alliteration!
I like that this book is longer than the previous book. I really liked how it paralleled a children's book about coping with a new siblings, but then took on a different tone, one that is truly meant for an adult. I love that the endings are such a shock!
Loves this picture book for adults! It hit upon funny and sarcastic vibes as well as having a sort of child-esk feel to it. I loved the different endings and the "omg!" Factor at the end
"Blood's a sticky thing. A blade doesn't get easier to put down once it's caked in it."
I rarely give myself the luxury of graphic novels so I enjoyed these two quite a bit. There were a few things I didn't understand and I take blame for not knowing more about Chinese culture. I like Saints more, maybe because I read Boxers first, but I liked the correlation with Joan of Arc's story.
Pretty good book. Had a lot of similarities to The Hunger Games, though this was dystopian as well. There were a few things I had issues with, but a lot going for it too. I'm excited for the next one since this one left me hanging!
This was a pretty good book for my first autobiography. I appreciated how honest it sounded and also told like a story. It gave me hope to reading more autobiographies.
It's fun to go back and reread these from childhood. I'm getting so much more of this series than before. I love how even at the second book you see Ron cares more for Hermione than a regular friend. You also see Dumbledore coming to conclusions about things that happen later in the series.
"The moment they start trying to move into each other's pots we'll know they're fully mature." .....oh my lord my child self had no idea....
Never realized how the term "bigger on the inside" worked with Harry Potter as well as Doctor Who lol
