OMG. This was so fun! Highly recommend the audiobook. Highly. Recommend. And this photo is a sticker from someone's Etsy shop so here's the link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1560478492/?ref=share_ios_native_control

Finally started this that's been on my TBR forever!
This just arrived, can‘t wait to finish my current read and get to this one 😁
While I loved this book overall, there were definitely parts I didn't like so much. The parts discussing the game play of earning points and leveling up were definitely not my favorite. On the plus side, I like the interactions of Carl and Princess Donut. Their banter is entertaining. The overall concept of the book is interesting. I am going to continue on with book 2, but am not sure how far I will be continuing with the series after that.
This book frankly surprised the hell out of me.
The story is populated by fun, unique characters on an insane journey, topped off with irreverence, witty banter, dark humor, and lots of fun, random pop culture references.
It is also one of the most truly laugh out loud funny things I have ever read in my life, but in just about the darkest way possible.
Don't say I didn't warn you.
I've never read litRPG before so I wasn't sure what I was going to find in this but I was pleasantly surprised by how engaging I found this. Carl and Donut were great leads to follow and I liked that Carl continued to follow his values despite the outrageous circumstances he found himself in.
We‘re in the middle of another heatwave but the dog wants yard time so I grabbed my book, found the shade, and drank some tea. At least there was a nice breeze.

This was fun and creative and ridiculous. Even being completely clueless about D&D-type gaming and whatnot, I had a good time, but I‘m not sure I want to read seven more of them. (I‘m not quite the target audience for this haha.) Very entertaining though.
Finally started this and love it. Science fiction that is a cross between Hunger Games and Ready Player One with a talking cat and humor! Will be reading them all.
I really enjoyed the first half of this book, it got a bit more challenging in the second half. I still enjoyed it enough to read the next in the series.
However, there were things that I greatly disliked. The crass humour was overdone and the descriptions of women could get unpleasant. It wasn't enough to make me quit the book but it was enough to make me uncomfortable.
If it continues then I might stop the series.
Loved this book as much as I love playing dungeon crawler video games!

Enjoy!
a hilarious commentary on the world, filled with dark humor, hilarious anecdotes, and a darker reflection of the world that we live in. But be aware, this is a book loaded with twisted experiences, your definitely going to want to check those trigger warnings before you read this one! The gore highlights the humor, and the humor highlights the dark truth of humans pushed to the edge. what would humanity do if it was pushed into a deadly game?
This was the May book club selection at a local bookstore. I never would have bought this book if it wasn't for the book club. I was surprised how much I loved it! Princess Donut is an amazing character.
This book was funny. It also gave me some insight into how RPGs are played. I probably won't read the rest of the series; as the mystery cool reader said-"| enjoyed it and I don't need to know more. I'm just happy that I got to read a book. "
Okay, I started this book because I've heard so many good things about it - but I was really not expecting to love it as much as I did! It is one of the funniest and most enjoyable books I have ever read! 😂 I'm immediately starting the second one because I can't wait to see what crazy shenanigans Carl and Princess Donut get up to next! 💕📚
I‘ve seen this book pop up here and there on Instagram, and the readers always raved about it. So, when I saw it on the bookstore shelf, I took the plunge. I figured since I loved “The Hitchhiker‘s Guide to the Galaxy” and “The Hunger Games” then maybe I‘d enjoy this too. I LOVED IT!! If you‘re looking for a “suck you in and lose track of time” read, this is IT! I‘m impatiently waiting for Book 2 to be delivered 😆
A friend recommended this one to me, and I'm so glad they did. I had such a fun time reading this book. It was humorous, with some great action scenes and a whole cast of wacky characters.
I told someone it was like Hitchhiker's Guide, Ready Player One, and Hunger Games all mashed together to create a glorious, entertaining mess that you can't look away from once you start. 😁
I can't wait to start another adventure with Carl and Princess Donut.
Recommended by my best friend. This is a very entertaining book. I listened to the audio book, which I would definitely recommend. The story is unique and clever and humorous (albeit quite dark humor sometimes). Very much recommend for anyone interested in RPG video games or DnD-like games. A very fun listen! Highly recommend!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️omg this was a blast listening to!!! I am looking forward to getting back into the world of Princess Donut and Carl! Although it‘s way silly, the character building has captured me.
This would be great if I like gaming… but I‘m a reader so it was good and had some great content
Omg this book is so fun! It‘s everything I hope a d&d campaign will be! I‘m excited to read more and keep living in the world Matt Dinniman created.
This was so much fun! Halfway through, I went and purchased the next two, knowing this is a series I'll read till the end. Multiple moments had me laughing out loud, and I feel this book would get better on reread as I'm sure there's lots of clever jokes I missed.
My 2024 Book Bracket!
Dungeon Crawler Carl is the overall winner for this year, which makes sense because I was obsessed with this book. I think I recommended it to every bookish, nerdish, tabletop gamer type person I knew this year. My husband and I devoured the audiobooks on a road trip over the summer and I highly recommend listening to the Sound Booth Theater version. If you like DnD, cats and laughing, then you need to read this book.
4/4⭐️
Absolutely fabulous audio performance! This is a book I would much prefer to listen to than read. My husband made me get the second book at soon as we finished the first.
I‘m listening to this with my husband and we are loving it. It‘s hilarious!
My 3rd hardcover edition of DCC. 🤷🏼♀️
One of my top ten series of all time.💜
This is so fun! I know, I know...you look at the title and this cover and immediately think "nope, not for me" but read a few reviews! Just two or three. Then try it. This is getting me out of a slump. Everything I'm reading seems so similar to each other and kind of depressing. This (so far, because I just started it) is so entertaining! I'm hooked and looking forward to the ride. It's giving Hunger Games/Ready Player One vibes- in a good way.
This was a blast! Such a fun, hilarious, gory thrill ride. I will definitely continue the series! 5⭐️
#doublespin pick done!
This book was a wild, violent, sometimes quite funny ride. Carl and Donut, a champion show cat, become unwilling participants in a global underground game battling orcs, rats and other monsters for the fate of the Earth. Combining video game world-building, The Hunger Games spectacle and buddy comedy chemistry, it makes for a fast and furious read. I only read this for cat book club but I'm tempted to read the sequel just to see what happens.
OMG as a D&D player I loved this. From Princess Donut to Mungo. This book is just pure entertainment.
Imagine, if you will, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy mashed with Death Race/The Hunger Games, Theseus vs the Minotaur, D&D, and a first-shooter video game and you get pretty close to the vibe of Dungeon Crawler Carl.
Throw in a pampered yet vicious show cat named Princess Doughnut, an AI that‘s a little too obsessed with feet, & former-Coast Guard Carl & you have a mashup that‘s thrilling and hilarious.
My first LitRPG and definitely not my last.
🎧 The Butcher‘s Masquerade - Book 5!
I haven‘t laughed this much in a long time. The books get better & better!
There are tons of well-designed & explored interesting aliens/monsters!
Another level completed.
A compelling new adventure. I‘m probably going to relisten to the 5 books when book 6 comes out. Yeahp, that much fun.
If you can handle my previous warnings then this might be the series for you. I love Carl & Donut!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️+ 👀
I read 21 books in June. I‘m still in a reading slump. Biggest surprise? Dungeon Crawler Carl!! Here are 16 of my favorites. I loved so many of the books I read this month. July is Indie readalong month so I hope I can crawl out of this slump!
🎧 SWEARING & MDK
Like DND & a violent video game had a baby. A post apocalyptic survival quest involving a multi-level dungeon, leveling up, bosses, monsters, humans & alien reality TV.
Carl & his x-gf‘s cat Princess Donut are the MC‘s. An animal companion!! Fighting for their lives. The epilogue reveal was priceless.
I could imagine Wil Wheaton reading this!
Carl‘s wardrobe on this quest? A leather jacket, boxers & pink crocs …

The world has collapsed, and all who survived are thrown into another world-a competitive dungeon where people fight monsters and humans alike. The book follows Carl and his estranged girlfriend's cat, Princess Donut, through their adventures in the dungeon. While I liked the book, I think it would be frustrating or maybe impossible for someone who has never played any RPG games like World of Warcraft to understand or follow along with the story.
I'm really liking this book so far. I'm listening to the audiobook, and think this is the best way to experience the book. The voice actor is amazing and he really captures each character's personality. If you're a fan of rpg, then you'll love this book. It brings me back to the days of playing WoW.
