Naked in Death
Naked in Death | Nora Roberts, J. D. Robb
In a world of danger and deception, she walks the line--between seductive passion and scandalous murder... Eve Dallas is a New York police lieutenant hunting for a ruthless killer. In over ten years on the force, she's seen it all--and knows her survival depends on her instincts. And she's going against every warning telling her not to get involved with Roarke, an Irish billionaire--and a suspect in Eve's murder investigation. But passion and seduction have rules of their own, and it's up to Eve to take a chance in the arms of a man she knows nothing about--except the addictive hunger of needing his touch. Hooked on Eve Dallas? Pre-order your copy of the newest book, DEVOTED IN DEATH, coming in September.

I have read so many books in this series, out of order. Everytime I try to read them all in order, between finances and library lack I never get through them. Moved to Henderson, NV and it looks like between Henderson Library, and Las Vegas Clark County Library, I may FINALLY be able to read this entire series in order. Starting from this first book - and I must say, I think I had forgotten how much I enjoyed them.

StayCurious These books are great! But I do think you‘ll enjoy them more in order😊 6mo
demented pixie @StayCurious I'm sure I will. I'm really looking forward to finally being able to accomplish this. I'm still figuring out how Litsy works (or not) LOL. Joined for the 24in48. Looking for some doable goals/challenges to help me adjust to some lifestyle changes. Open to suggestions. The #BFC looks interesting but may not be doable during the summer here.
6mo
StayCurious @demented pixie I‘m doing both. The BFC is good because you set the goals yourself and they‘re extremely flexible. Check out @wanderinglynn for more info - but I think the sign up deadline is tonight. 6mo
See All 7 Comments
wanderinglynn @demented Yes, the sign-up ends tonight. But @StayCurious is correct—this is an individual challenge. You set your own goals & the fitness goals can be physical, nutritional, or mental wellness. So goals run the gamut from walking & swimming to eating healthy to meditation, praying, or journal writing. The book goal (physical, e-, or audio) is simply how many you wish to get through in 6 week. 6mo
wanderinglynn And our #BFC philosophy is life happens, so adapt & change. As long as you don‘t quit, you‘re winning. So if you start with one goal and it‘s not working because of weather or your job or whatever, change it! Changing a goal is not a sign of weakness or failure. Each day is a new day to start anew. We each have our abilities, limitations, & journey. It‘s not a competition—we all cross the finish line together. (edited) 6mo
demented pixie @wanderinglynn I love that philosophy! Thank you for your encouragement and support. I ran onto the #irontomeathon and already signed up for #24in48 so I think I'm set for July. I'll see how it goes and if I enjoy them and then consider the next round of #BFC. Thanks again! 6mo

I recently acquired all of the books in the In Death series for an excellent price. I didn‘t know what to expect, but after a slow start, I finally got sucked into book one and really enjoyed it. There are some predictable plot points that I figured out early on, and it is a bit dated, but overall I‘m excited to keep reading the series! 4⭐️

Serotonin You acquired ALL of them? That‘s a lot. I remember reading this series back in college and loved it. And then I got behind 😆 9mo
JenlovesJT47 @Serotonin I came across someone selling the entire series via ebook for $7.99 on eBay! Totally legit. Got all 18 Outlander books for $6. 😱 And 70 Stephen King books for $5! 😧😧😧 9mo
Zelma Wow, what a deal! My mom would be so envious. She got rid of all her J.D. Robb books, regretted it, and is now slowly rebuying used copies as she rereads borrowed copies. 9mo

I went on a business trip and promptly got sick. Thank goodness I had Naked In Death queued up on audio to distract me from how bad I felt. It‘s the first in a romantic suspense series set in 2058 in NYC. Eve Dallas, the MC, is a detective assigned to investigate a series of heinous murders on prostitutes (a legal profession in the US in 2058). I will definitely be continuing the series. #femaledetective #booked19

Another series recommended by my sister. Eve Dallas, a tough detective investigates 3 brutal murders of prostitutes in the year 2058. Published in 1995, I found some of the "futuristic" elements outdated. Also, some major trigger warnings, which I wish I would have know about beforehand. I probably will not read anymore of this series, but it was a well written thriller.

One of my favorite murder mystery series is the In Death series by J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts). She said in a 2011 interview with The Guardian that Shakespeare‘s Much Ado About Nothing is one of her favorites because “it‘s a brilliant romantic comedy.”

I also love this photo of her b/c it‘s so Eve Dallas.

Bostonmomx2 I never made it last about a dozen of these but....I still can‘t believe this never got optioned for tv/hbo/Netflix or something. 1y
wanderinglynn @Bostonmomx2 Apparently it was optioned or being optioned at one time for a movie, but nothing ever came of it. Maybe because there are a ton of other police procedurals already out? 1y
Bostonmomx2 @wanderinglynn totally possible. The futuristic angle is so different tho. 1y

I enjoyed this so much! I‘m so excited to have another long series to read thru!

At first, I wasn‘t sure how I would like the futuristic setting, but it was early in the story when I got really into it. The same with the romance between Eve and Roarke-I was worried it would water down the detective/crime parts of the story. It didn‘t though! I like Eve and Roarke a lot and am excited for the next installment, which I need to get my hands on ASAP.

Reading the series for the second time. I really like Eve Dallas as a character, and I love the futuristic setting, but Roarke didn‘t seem so appealing this time around.

Mystery – quite good. Setting (NYC in the not-so-far-off-future)– worked. Characters – not quite as believable as I would‘ve liked. Romance – quite a bit for a hard-core murder mystery…though I guess I‘m not complaining, just not used to it in the mysteries that I usually read. There are over 45 in the series now, and it sounds like people like it! I‘ll try at least one more. #murdermystery

An okay read, but definitely *not* a cozy mystery. Prefer not to see things from the villain's POV. Had some issues with the very 80s-inspired future world building. Eve and Rourke are entertaining enough characters, but I had trouble believing their relationship progression. Might continue reading the series, but not any time soon, I don't think.

It's not hard to see why the In Death series is so popular, especially if you like romantic suspense! Set in a futuristic NYC, a badass murder detective meets a smoldering, savvy businessman with a *slightly* illegal hacking hobby (LOVE ROARKE ♥️). Pickpick

I love this entire series! I read so many series and in most of them with each new book they switch to a new pairing and the stories don't feel complete. I love how well we get to know these characters and the world they live in! This is one of those series that O revisit often and will probably keep revisiting for years to come!

Ignore the horrendously ugly color of my walls! We are getting ready to paint and it will look a lot prettier once we do! But this is the beginning of my little book corner! Everything will change after we paint but for right now i think it looks cute! Not all my books are here yet! Im still moving in! #bookshelf #decor #jdrobb

Eve Dallas fits the definition of a #workaholic. It's a good think she has a such an attractive husband to help her get her mind off of work😉. #indeath #jubilantjuly
