The Bones Beneath My Skin
The Bones Beneath My Skin | Tj Klune
4 posts | 6 read | 9 to read
In the spring of 1995, Nate Cartwright has lost everything: his parents are dead, his older brother wants nothing to do with him, and he's been fired from his job as a journalist in Washington DC. With nothing left to lose, he returns to his family's summer cabin outside the small mountain town of Roseland, Oregon to try and find some sense of direction. The cabin should be empty. It's not. Inside is a man named Alex. And with him is an extraordinary little girl who calls herself Artemis Darth Vader. Artemis, who isn't exactly as she appears. Soon it becomes clear that Nate must make a choice: let himself drown in the memories of his past, or fight for a future he never thought possible. Because the girl is special. And forces are descending upon them who want nothing more than to control her.

#ReadAway2024

After reading The House in the Cerulean Sea 2 years ago, I made it a goal to read all of Klune‘s work including his backlog. This one was a self-published novel in 2018 but it‘s being republished in 2025. (I think that‘s the new cover pictured). Anyway, I loved it. DebinHawaii … good way. Without going into details about this book & the story, Klune writes characters I quickly am endeared to (Art is near the top of the list now) & ones that make me smile & at times make me tear up. Did I get a bit emotional finishing this on my Neighbor Island plane ride? Yes. Did I mind? Not one bit. It‘s not my favorite Klune, but it‘s still a good one & I hope more people discover it. And headed to Hilo again, this time for an overnight & 2 days of business review. Big fun! 😬

In the lounge waiting to board with the usual coffee & breakfast. I‘m about midway through the tagged book & enjoying it. Trying to get through all of Klune‘s backlist.

TJ Klune. What a writer.

Reggie Lol, this made me smile. 4y
