Excellent in every way. No sophomore slump here. If you hunger for good fiction, pick up this book. You won‘t be disappointed.

Who here has read the exquisite Alexandrian Quartet, Justine in particular? I‘m reading Durrell‘s best known work for the first time.

I think we've all read this and loved it, but when I saw this illustrated version at Warwick's in La Jolla well, you know what happened.

A solid 4/5 star read. I love Kate Morton‘s beautiful prose even the story is sad at the heart of it.

I‘m on disc 2 and while the story is a tad confusing, her language is beautiful as usual so I don‘t mind. There are 2 parallel story lines that involve beauty, love, death and forgiveness.

Gets an A for authenticity. I thought it could have been a little shorter but overall a very well told tale that we see much too often in America. I‘m glad this book is getting the attention it‘s receiving. Glad I read it. The audio brings the characters to life.

I‘m so enjoying the second novel from Daniel Taylor. Funny, surprising and thought provoking.

I‘m loving this book so much that I had to get the hardback to go along with the audio! Don‘t you love it when that happens? Man, I‘m a nut for dinosaur 🦕 🦕🦕 tales and natural history ❤️ Bur where are the illustrations? No photos, no drawings, no illustrations?! Who let that happen?

The slave brutality is tough to read as always but once I get past that, I like the adventure story. Still, I have a feeling our protagonist isn‘t coming to a good end. I hope I‘m wrong. The UK version has a much nicer cover and beautiful end papers.

Reading this classic from the Harlem Renaissance period is like 1984 meets Black Like Me but with a huge dose of cynicism and humor.

I‘m pretty sure this is the only series I‘ve ever read and I‘m doing it all on audio. Jane Entwistle is Flavia deLuce and I wouldn‘t miss her for all the poisons on the planet. Any other Flavia fans here?

This book is so engaging. After finishing HOMEGOING, I really needed to do a complete 180° read, but because this book is currently in the industrial revolution, the 19th century, I know that African slaves played a role in what was going on at that time in Britain and the United States. After all Eli Whitney did create the cotton gin. I‘m listening to this on CD and Simon Winchester has a wonderful reading voice. Great for science geeks.

I‘m listening to this on CD now. The prose is beautiful but the subject matter is brutal. A very hard book to read, especially knowing that I am a descendant of the African slave trade. I would have endured the same hell as many of the book‘s characters. I‘m curious about how others felt reading this book. Also what possessed the Dutch to engage in this horrific practice? What the fuck were they thinking?😱😱😱

Well it‘s a chore figuring out how to upload decent book covers when I have to make my own but you get the picture. I just started this book and I‘m listening to the audio version on Libby. Very cool. Much better than CDs while driving because it keeps playing. I hope it‘s better than the other similar one I‘m reading: the Death of Mrs. Westerly. So far, it‘s better.

Just started this one as an antidote to 1984. I'm enjoying it. I've never read Ruth Ware before.

I picked this one up at Barnes and Noble last night after work. So far so good. Of course how can I judge another person‘s life story? It is what it is. Love the moody black and white cover on this one.

Certainly not an easy, fun or entertaining read, but a necessary one in our current political moment and world climate. I would have given up on this book in high school but I‘ve lived enough now to understand it and see current scary parallels. I don‘t think our country will ever get to the point of 1984, but just seeing parallels right now is plenty scary enough. Glad I‘m reading it. #greatamericanread

Have you seen the movie? Are you a fan of the noir genre? James Cain practically invented noir with this classic, Mildred Pierce and the Postman Always Rings Twice. In Double Indemnity, a desperate man falls for a definitive femme fatale and plays out the game “straight down the line” to the inevitable. If you‘re curious about the genre, read this taut, exhilarating gem of a book.

Took me 6 months to read this long winded door stop. But it‘s an exercise in perseverance. I know that books were serialized in the 1800s so it was the publishing fashion to go on forever but it‘s my opinion that if you want to read Wilkie Collins, read the Moonstone. It‘s 100 pages or so less than the Woman in White and the Moonstone is written much clearer in far more direct language.

If I had been reading the Moonstone, I would be done with this book by now. Also, I updated my iPhone last night and it wiped all the data from my Litsy account. Thanks a lot Mac.😠

I have been reading this book so long I‘m ashamed of myself. On the other hand, I have not given up and I refuse to give up on this classic. I am going to finish this book if it kills me. The back of it says “one of the greatest mystery thrillers ever written, Wilkie Collins‘ The Woman in White was a phenomenal bestseller” in wait for it... 1860. The classics matter although they are not easy to read. I will soldier on to the end!

I‘m listening to this on CD and I recommend CD if you‘re interested in reading it, because you‘ll get Jennifer Lewis‘s wonderful voice, all of the accents and emphasis that only she can provide to her story. This is a definite five star read and trust me: you will laugh, you will cry, you will be like girl WTF and on down the line. Many know Ms Lewis from blackish, but before movies and television, she was a Broadway gypsy. What a life!❤️👍🏾

Giving this baby 4/5 stars. Good read with a noir feel. Anyone from the midwestern small town (and some not so small towns) will relate to this tale of secrets, collusion, and murder. I‘m a Jessica Jones fan so she pretty much read this one to me in my mind. Looking forward to her next book. ❤️📚❤️
