The modern re-telling didn‘t add anything to the story. It‘s a graphic novel so there isn‘t a lot of room. Still, the characters were shallow. I was apathetic about Jane and that‘s just not right! ☹️

This was really good. In addition to being a very well-told story, the illustrations are really well done and easy to follow
Jane Eyre is one of my fav books so I had really high hopes for this graphic retelling of Jane Eyre. Sadly the story line fell really flat for me. The author took all the good things about Jane Eyre and threw them out. Instead it felt like some cheap romance novel and listen I love cheap romance novels, But to do that to Jane Eyre just makes me sad. The art work though really makes this book. It‘s so stunning.

A reimagining of Jane Eyre set in present day.
Yay this came in the mail today! I got some gift cards for books and this was my first purchase with them. You know how much I love Jane Eyre so I had to get it 😊.
Lovely graphics but the story doesn't do anything new with the original. The almost telenova approach to the story bothered me. It read like a very average harlequin.
This is my first book of the evening. I should be done before the 🐧 🏒game against McDavid later tonight.

This graphic novel is supposed to be a modern retelling of Jane Eyre. I found myself intrigued by the story, and with more questions than answers. I thought the ending was lacking. I am sure it comes close to the original story, but to me it seemed too soap opera. It‘s been done a million times in other stories in other ways. Overall, a great read, but it needed more.

This is a modern retelling of Jane Eyre in graphic novel format. JE has long been my favorite novel so I was a little leery, but I needn‘t have been. The art is beautiful and the story, while not an exact match to the original, is true to the spirit. A very enjoyable, quick read.
Ummmm...no. A “modern-day retelling” of Jane Eyre, which I‘m totally on-board with, but it completely misses the entire point of the original. The depth and complexity of the characters in Bronte‘s work are what make it a masterpiece. Whereas, with this.‘, we get a trite romance and a weird ending and nothing of any substance. Some of the art is pretty, though.
I love Jane Eyre, but was disappointed in this modern retelling of the story. A young woman moves to NYC and takes a job as a nanny with the mysterious Mr. Rochester. The plot deviates from the original in too many ways and didn‘t make any sense at the end. I did like the development of Jane‘s relationship with little Adele. The artwork was very good, but the overall effect left me empty.
Continuing my march through the graphic novels. I flew through this retelling of Jane Eyre. Artwork is beautiful! Mix of color and b/w.
Sorry but I suck at uploading pictures to Litsy. Anyway I wrote a review on Goodreads. 3.5/5 from me. I am not a graphic novel kind of a gal.
Lots of pretty, not a lot of words. An improvement on the the original Jane Eyre because it avoids a lot (not all!) of the PROBLEMATIC elements.
Oooh, looks who‘s reading graphic novels voluntarily now? #shesgrownsomuch #janeeyre #adaptation
This is a wonderful graphic novel. It's a modern retelling of Jane Eyre, and it had me hooked right from beginning to end. And can i mention the ending? It was beautiful, I'll tell you that! I give this book a 4/5. Loved it, but it needed to be longer! Lol. Overall, I recommend it to any Jane Eyre and graphic book fan.

I enjoyed this quick read. I love the illustrations. Jane‘s facial expressions were great. I am not a fan of the original novel, so it was easy for me to prefer this reimagined version. I would guess quite a few fans of Jane Eyre would find this graphic depiction lacking in comparison to the original though.
3.5/5
This is a short, fun imagining of Jane Eyre in modern day New York. The art is really stylized and beautiful. I particularly liked the way Adele was portrayed. She reminded me a little of Eloise.
It's nice for fans of Jane Eyre, but probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone who hasn't read Jane Eyre since it cuts out so many storylines.
4 hours and 3 minutes down and I‘m calling it for the night. I‘ll be back at it bright and early tomorrow! #24in48
#booksandbreakfast while finishing the modern graphic adaptation of my favorite #janeeyre - which was a great disappointment. Using only the most general plot outline McKenna completely misses the point of why i (and so many others) love the original: it‘s character depth. Having our protagonist‘s struggle with pride, morals and integrity reduced to a 50 shades poor-girl-meets-rich-mystery-guy level is just sad. ...👇
Resting my feet after a long day tripping through hamburg in new shoes and reading my newest Jane Eyre edition: a modernized graphic novel!
As a fan of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, seeing Aline Brosh McKenna's name on a graphic novel was exciting! And this graphic novel, a modern retelling of Jane Eyre with gorgeous art by Ramón K Pérez, was captivating and mysterious and heartwarming. Highly enjoyable.
Quick read. A modern Jane Eyre. Eh.. May be that I just don‘t care for Jane Eyre anyway. The illustrations were good, but the characters suck. 😛.
I‘m not a fan of the original Jane Eyre—she‘s such a martyr!—but this retelling set in NYC is quick and fun. McKenna‘s Jane has more backbone than the original, although her falling for Rochester is just as inexplicable to me as in Brontë‘s version. The supporting cast of characters adds a hint of diversity: a queer brown roommate who does drag, and a black friend at art school. Ramón Perez‘s striking page layouts add to the appeal.
I learn things from reading. For example, today I learned that some women brush their teeth while eating a bagel. Weird.
It was easy to spot writer Aline Brosh McKenna‘s name slipped in to the NYC cityscape in this graphic novel. Then, near the end of the book, I noticed Canadian artist Ramón K Perez had hidden his initials on a baseball cap. I feel like a champion noticer. (Autocorrect doesn‘t believe noticer is a word. Maybe I just invented it.)
After some extremely depressing tax return news this morning the only thing that sounded remotely fun, and able to ligthen the mood, was a library visit. Of course coffee too 😉. Knitting books are expensive so having the availability to look them over before investing is a huge plus. I know nothing about the graphic novel, but the cover intrigued me and some of the shout outs 😁. Here's hoping the day gets better #becausebooks. #libraryloot
This was terrible. Now I will open myself to all criticism and admit that I have not read Jane Eyre. *ducks from flying tomatoes* With that said, I know the story and thought this would be a fun, modern retelling. Nope. No character growth from anyone. Odd story with the brother. Rochester was just creepy and mean, and I saw no reason for Jane‘s attraction. And the ending: 🙄
I am such a reading slump right now and I hate it. So I got even more book form a #libraryhaul in the hopes that something appeals to me. I blame too much Olympics watching and tiredness.
This. Is. BAD. Gosh where do I even start? If you‘re a Jane Eyre fan you will HATE this. It‘s a very loose interpretation (if it‘s even that at all) and it seriously reads like fan fiction. If you don‘t want to be heartbroken and read about a drunk, jealous Mr. Rochester (who reminded me of Mr. Grey), or a quick-to-fall in love “Cinderella” Jane Eyre—do NOT read this. What we all love and cherish about Jane Eyre is totally lost here. Ugh.

My only quibble with this modern retelling of Jane Eyre is that her childhood is really glossed over. Update: I‘ve thought about this some more and I realize the only reason I like it is that I liked Jane‘s relationship with Rochester‘s daughter, Adele. The rest of it wasn‘t so believable, so I‘ve adjusted my rating.
Starting Book 2 for #24in48!! I‘m a Jane Eyre fanatic, so I‘m incredibly excited to read this graphic novel retelling!!! 😍😍😭😭
I really enjoyed this one, super cute, but not nearly long enough! Need more volumes!

I‘m still trying the GN format. This one is “based on” one of my all time favorites, Jane Eyre. I would have liked it more if I wasn‘t comparing the two while I read. I didn‘t care for the way the artist drew characters, but there were stunning city scenes. Overall Ok. @Kelican17
I quite enjoyed this graphic novel, which is a loose modern retelling of Jane Eyre. The art was lovely and the story line engaging.
Loved this layout but I did not enjoy this book. It‘s contemporary twist was too shallow and simple for my tastes, with a relationship that developed even more implausibly than its namesake. The Game of Thrones twist was also just too thoughtless and the pace too quick to make anything ring ‘true‘. #letsgetgraphicweeklongmarathon
Starting #letsgetgraphicweeklongmarathon with this discovery on hoopla. I love Jane Eyre so 🤞🏻this is a strong reimagining of it.
I really liked this modern retelling of Jane Eyre. There were a few adjustments to make it more modern but they worked well. And the artwork was lovely. Jane Eyre has always been one of my favorite novels and I think this graphic novel lived up to it.
Did I spend all of my spare time the past few days binging on #GraphicNovels on Hoopla so I could complete my #GoodreadsChallenge before the end of the year? Yup. I sure did! And I don‘t feel too bad about it considering the sizable number of chunksters and classics I got through this past year. Plus, it was great exposure to an art form I don‘t explore that often. This one was just okay though. Entertaining but a little too silly for me.
