Fantastic book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Good WWII novel about a family in Poland. The book follows the parents and children in their quest for survival and staying together. Truly heartbreaking, and they were very lucky, most of the situations were believable (except for a few). Overall, the book showcases what one does for the family they love and to survive.
Being an historical fiction buff, I‘ve read a lot of books on this topic. This book was as good, if not better, than the others I‘ve read. I read it In anticipation of watching the series on Hulu. I don‘t know if I‘d have otherwise read it. I can‘t say I didn‘t like it, as it was very good. I think I‘ve just read too many books about this era.
First book that came to my mind for #basedonatruestory for #aboutabook The author writes about her own family!

Incredible story, loved all the characters and each chapter following their journey - it was hard to put down! I think this is the first I‘ve ever in my life read of an entire family surviving this war like this before and then finding each other years later.
Heartbreaking, beautiful, edge-of-your-seat. I can‘t wait to watch the show!
It was a privilege to spend this rainy Saturday morning weeping my way through the end of this book, a brilliant novelization of the author‘s Jewish family‘s experiences living through World War II in Poland. I was captivated by this story of how one family navigated impossible times with courage, ingenuity, and love. What a story. All the stars. 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This historical fiction was well written. The characters were mostly kind. WWII novels can be difficult to read because of all the horrors which were happening. My heart broke with each person who disappeared and I rejoiced when some escaped. Be prepared for some heartbreak. Prepare yourself to celebrate each new birth and always be thankful that we are not living through this hell currently.

This is fantastic historical fiction, based on the author's own family. I enjoyed the multiple POV's showing how they each escaped the Nazis/Russians during the war.
Amongst the many many WWII novels, this #temptintitles #withluck stands out as one of my favorites! Based on the author‘s own family!

The true story of one Jewish family separated at the start of World War II, determined to survive—and to reunite…

Okay, stop what you‘re doing and go out right now and buy this book. I have read a lot of really incredible World War II stories, but this one takes the cake. A suspenseful, gripping, heartbreaking story full of love and heart and bravery that is all the more amazing because it‘s true! Incredible!!!!
I feel like my life was so enriched by reading this epic book. It is the story of he author‘s family in Poland from 1949-1946. Life for this Jewish family becomes worse and worse as the Nazis overtake Europe. The author does a great job in following all of the life threatening experiences each Harare endures.Their love for each other. A real page turner and inspirational.
Knowing that this story of survival is based on the true lives of the author‘s family was powerful, yet heart wrenching. The story of their survival in the midst of despair and unspeakable evil is one to honor and keep alive theirs and others stories who lived and died through the genocide of the Jewish men, women, and children.
This is one I highly recommend to all.
This fictional retelling of a Polish family‘s survival of WWII left me hollowed out. The Kurcs‘ sheer will, bravery, and hope while trying to survive and stay together is a gripping story I won‘t forget. The generations begat from this decimated population are truly a testament to the human spirit. You can sense Hunter‘s deep admiration for her family‘s history throughout; it shines as a memorial her ancestors can be proud of. 5⭐️
I stalled a bit on my #novelnovember reading goals, but I did finish “The Searcher” and am about 50% through the the tagged book. Looking forward to some quality reading time over the Thanksgiving weekend. Thanks @Andrew65 for the motivation!
This has been on my tbr pile for a while, finally got round to reading it and honestly was so worth it! An incredible true story of one family‘s sheer determination just to stay alive against all odds. Definite pick 💜 #pick #WeWereTheLuckyOnes #read #bookworm #love
Although this wasn‘t a home run for me, i still recommend it. A holocaust story where a large polish family survives the horrors of ww2 and all the ways they cope and deal during this time while all being separated and not knowing who is alive or dead. A bit hard to follow, there are so many storylines. The characters were hard to connect with, lacked emotional punch. It was like watching at a distance.
I have read a ton of WWII fiction over the last few years and was going to make an effort to stay away from that time period in 2020. @Jerdencon and #NewYearWhoDis had a different and better idea. This book is amazing. Based on a real family with each member experiencing the war in a different way. I loved this book.

I really enjoyed this book. The book is a fictional retelling about a real Jewish family and the real horrors they faced during the Holocaust. It is a heartbreaking story written by one of the family members own granddaughter. Even though it is a heavy topic, I think it‘s definitely worth the read.
This was such a good book about what happened to Jews during WWII. I felt like these people became family members. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
One of the best books I've ever read. Thrilling. Stayed up late so many nights to finish it. And the fact that it's based on real events is unbelievable. I've recommended this book to everybody I talk to
It took me about a month to read because I‘ve got a lot going on and I‘m easily distracted nowadays but this was a great read based on a real Jewish family that (barely) survives WWII. If you gravitate to stories set in this time period, you need to read this one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I bought this about a year ago but things got stressful and chaotic so it got shelved. Now that my life has calmed down (#RIPMom), I‘m ready to dive into a new tome.
Pretty great books last month.. my favorite of this group is We Were the Lucky Ones ❤
Grab your tissues. 😢 A story of a family trying to survive Hitler‘s atrocities. So good.
Amazing historical fiction about a Jewish family of 7 in WW2 Poland researched and written by the great granddaughter of Sol and Nechuma Kurc.

There is great deal of difference in reading just a fiction compared to books based on true stories. What do you say?
#litsyauthor #readwithmrbook
What a story! What a resilient family! Thank you @Jerdencon for putting this on my #NewYearsWhoDis list. I went into this thinking it was complete fiction with the author cleverly using one family‘s different experiences to illustrate the many horrendous facets of WWII only to find out while listening to the author‘s note that these were real people, real events. What this family went through is incredible and I won‘t forget their story.
I had to go to to town today, so that involved driving past Goodwill. My car just automatically turned into the parking lot 🤷🏼♀️ So one for me and the others for some of you 😉
#LitsyLove
I have about 5 hours left on We Were the Lucky Ones and 2/3‘s of Fountains of Silence to go.
Just barely started Scarlett. Tax season is taking chunks of my reading time so finishing these and starting new ones maybe overly optimistic but it‘s nice to have a goal. Looking forward to seeing what March‘s #BookSpin will be. Still buying faster than I am reading 🤷🏻♀️ 3 from B&N and 3 on the way from BOTM this week.

This was such an interesting book! It‘s the author‘s debut novel, written about her grandfather‘s family surviving WW2 as Jews living in Poland and surviving the war. It‘s amazing all that they went through, I really learned a lot. Thanks @TheAromaofBooks for the #bookspin. I‘m so glad this book was picked!
This heart wrenching, based on a true story, falls under HF which could be used to share several stories about the holocaust in S.S. The book includes several experiences & would be a great introduction to Anne Franks Diaries according to RWT.org for a secondary & mature level class. Students can have the option to write or artistically express their emotions in reflection. (UDL 7.1.
I would incorporate buddies/pairs (ELLs. #UCFLAE3414SP20
My husband just loooves when I bring a book while traveling. Apparently he thinks we should be chatting or something. He can listen to his country music, I‘ll immerse myself in this....
Thanks @TheAromaofBooks for doing a #bookspin and picking my next read for me 😃🤓 I just finished Beneath A Scarlet Sky last night, so on to another historical book. I hope this one is just as good!
