Interesting story that reminded me of the princess and the pauper. In reverse. Dark writing. The main who stole the princesses life. Vanja is an intriguing character, but not one I could fully get behind. Yes, I understand where shes form -being forced to make bad decisions in order to survive- yet I could get around to her. Interesting curse she‘s stuck with.
I loved everything about this book. Such a great, immersive fairy tale, with amazing characters. I absolutely love the hardback of it as well. I can't wait for the next one! #Readyourtbr #readyourshelves
Wow. What a ride. It was not entirely what I expected & definitely more than I was expecting, so full of twists & turns & angst (loads of teen angst, this one isn‘t for the faint hearted) that it keeps you turning pages…relentlessly, furiously. Fascinating world, intriguing magic system, one of the most excellent, non-toxic male leads you could ever hope for, the importance of agency & consent woven into the story. I enjoyed this YA fantasy a lot.
Next…
Cool cover, right? Hopefully the story is equally good.
@ozma.of.oz I finally shipped this back to you!
This book was a really unexpected take on the Goose Girl fairy tale and a great deal of fun! Conniving, resourceful, broken Vanja is a fantastic protagonist. I felt like exclaiming many times, so it was a great choice for #LMPBC!
@ozma.of.oz I‘m really busy this month with NaNoWriMo, so I may not be able to mail this back to you until December. Is that OK? If not, I‘ll figure out how to get to the post office!
@KristiAhlers #LMPBC package received!
I read this as part of the LMPBC and I‘ve really enjoyed this one! I also enjoy reading the comments from previous readers! Totally adds to the reading experience! I‘ll have this out to you @Clare-Dragonfly once I get back home from my trip!
Little Thieves is a wonderful novel about a woman overcoming her own demons in order to find happiness. I adored the plot (even though it was a little slow to start in my humble opinion). I enjoyed the growth that the characters showed. And the romance aspect wasn‘t cheesy nor thrown in your face. This book was a real page turner and I‘m looking forward to reading more books by Owen :)
Overall review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️(4/5)
I had been putting off this book because of all the hype surrounding it. I finally read it, and it was perfection. The hype was well deserved.
The daughter of Death and Fortune, told to choose which of her mothers to serve decides on a third option. Steal the life of a princess, rob the nobility of everything they have, & flee the empire. Nothing could go wrong. Right?
This was a charming & intense read! Quick plot, interesting characters, & an unexpected twist on The Goose Girl. Vanja is a prickly main character, but she‘s funny and relatable. & not too heavy on the romance.🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
This story follows Vanja. Abandoned by her mother at the age of 4 she becomes the adopted daughter of Death and Fortune. These days she is moonlighting as a princess and stealing from the nobility. When she angers a Lesser God a curse is placed on her for her greed. Vanja must figure out how to right her wrongs to survive the next full moon. And that is just the first few chapters! 4.5⭐️

One book for @chill_bro_baggins , one for @kourtlynrose , and the rest for me! ❤️
I‘m bummed to bail on this, but I‘m just bored. If a story has unlikeable characters it really needs to intrigue me and this is not doing that. Such a beautiful book too.

📖Reading tagged, from my incredibly beautiful #illumicrate edition. It‘s cute so far, but seems to lean on the young side of YA.
🎧Just started listening to Project Hail Mary which I‘ve heard only good things about.
When I found out there was a retelling of the fairy tale, “The Goose Girl”, I nabbed my local library‘s copy before you could say Pfennigeist ( you will know this name from the book). I fell in love with Shannon Hale‘s retelling of “The Goose Girl” back in 2005, and this retelling was icing on the “fairy tale retelling” cake, and just what I needed to read, seventeen years later.⬇️
The characters are well developed and enjoyable to read about. I liked the variety within the characters; their personalities, their motivations, and their love interests. The descriptions are so effective at painting a picture of the settings and the events of the novel. Many wonderful themes are present, such as good versus evil, the power of friendship, personal growth, love, courage, redemption and revenge.
⭐⭐⭐
There was a very good moral to this story! There was so much depth and emotion from Vanja that I feel I could relate to. I did have a hard time keeping up with certain parts of the story but I will definitely keep as a reread for the future.

Surprisingly am enjoying this one! Maybe because it‘s a loose retelling of “ The Goose Girl”? Couldn‘t stand and finish The Merciful Crow- hopefully I can stick with it!
Good Morning Litsy from Arizona! Hope you all have a magical morning. I'm enjoying my morning eating breakfast at my favorite spot.

For #november #12in2021 I‘m at four books again! This is a trend.. #11thbookof2021
I loved the novel but the graphic novel really resonated with me for Juliet takes a Breath!
The Legend of Auntie Po is such a fantastic graphic novel about family and mythology.
Little Thieves blew me away probably one of my favorite retellings of the year.
The Ex Hex was so funny and enjoyable it‘s my guilty pleasure of the year award.

Reading with Roxas while waiting for the Nyquil to kick in! 😪🤒📚❤ #catsoflitsy #littenkitten #roxas
Started this one yesterday and I'm loving it so far! I really enjoy stories about ferocious badass women! Did get some bad news today however...I tested positive for Covid. 😩 I've worn a mask nonstop and have been washing my hands like crazy but it looks like I picked it up in NJ anyway. Terrible sore throat, body aches, and fatigue are the worst of it, so hopefully after a few restful days I'll feel better. At least I can still read! 💕📚
My brother in law handed this to me in the book store today! He definitely knows me because this sounds amazing. Can't wait to read!!!

The picture is a bit busy but here‘s my first Book Only box. It‘s perfect. Love the sprayed edges and the naked hardcover under that dust jacket is STUNNING! Front, back & spine are all smooth, shiny fan art!
I enjoyed this book!
This was the November Illumicrate book, it sounds really good and the bookmark is stunning. I am quite behind on my Illumicrate books. Next will read the final in the Aurora Cycle series.
🎧 Why this book? It‘s my Illumicrate book for November.
Read the summary & nope … don‘t make me read it!
Then the book came.
“Once upon a time, there was a horrible girl … “
Well now we‘re talking! All in!
Retelling of The Goose Girl maybe but I‘d say it spins it on its ear. Good character & plot development. Quick, fun, easy read! If you‘re expecting THE Goose Girl 😄
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👇🏻👇🏻
I had such high expectations for this one. Such high expectations. I mean, it promised a villain mc, an intricate religious system, and heists. Everything about it sounded amazing. Everything about it sounded like something I would love. But sadly, that wasn't the case
Really fun and well-developed, but I found some of Vanja's wisecracks a little too modern for the setting. Still, it was a beautifully told story. #yafantasy #retelling
Read this in October for #scarathlon2021 and #screamathon
Wk1 I already posted as 4143 + everything else at 1410 for a total of 5553. Sorry its so late. If I didn't get it in in time sorry.
I love this cover!

Little Thieves by Margaret Owen is a magical YA retelling that transports the story of the Goose Girl to an old Grimm, German-inspired fantasy world. The story revolves around Vanja, a maid who steals a pearl necklace from Princess Gisele, her former best friend. With this pearl necklace, Vanja can transform into Gisele, and she uses it to take her place.
Little Thieves was a highly anticipated read for me and it‘s fair to say I expected too much from Owen, especially after feeling deeply comforted by her short, powerful author‘s note in the beginning of the book. Perhaps if I‘d gone in with a different state of mind, I might have rated it higher. It is a good story and one I‘d recommend all fairytale lovers devote some time to.

“I don‘t remember the last time I felt really, truly safe, but I spent most the last year feeling safe enough behind the facade of prinzessin. I forgot how bone-deep the exhaustion goes when you‘re living in fear.”
There has never been a more appropriate book title for a book and ferret photo! 😂
By the way, this book is exceptional so far. You might say that it has stolen my heart!
“This book is, above all, for the ones who told their stories. Whether it was easy or agonizing, on a national stage or to a blank page, whether it left scar tissue or a smoking crater. Thank you for saying the words, and know that it changed something, even if that change seems immeasurable.” ~From the acknowledgments page of Little Thieves by Margaret Owen
“They stood tall and unfathomable in the glass-smooth snow, Death in her shroud of pyre smoke and shadows, and Fortune in her gown of gold and bones. More than that cannot be said, for no two souls see Death and Fortune the same way; yet we all know them when we meet them.”
