Interesting story, smart characters, whimsical surroundings and beautiful cover. What an enjoyable middle grade mystery set in a very atmospheric hotel!

This was a fun, mystery, middle grade novel with snow and magic. Elizabeth gets sent to a hotel for Christmas and her aunt and uncle go on vacation. It‘s the first in a series.

This is an adorable MG Christmas mystery- a mashup of Matilda/A House With The Clock In It's Walls/The Westing Game.

Is it still winter where you live ❄? For a fun snowy read, I would recommend Winterhouse by Ben Guterson! (above is the back cover ✨)

Surprisingly good. I wasn‘t sure about the ghost part of the story, and tbh that wasn‘t my favorite storyline. But the friendship is awesome (they even have a fight and have to compromise!), the hotel people are great, and Elizabeth is a good MC. I ordered the third book already but Book Outlet didn‘t have the second in hardcover so now I have to find it. Gotta have them match, ya know. Also, 38/20 chapters for #20in4 done!
Very intriguing plot, but the last half of the book was slow. Still intrigued to read rest of the series , but will probably audiobook them instead.
We have had a few days of cold here in Texas and it‘s made it actually feel like winter. This book seemed perfect to get me into the feel of it all.
A nice winter read for this year. I was expecting it to be more Christmas-y than it was, so that was slightly disappointing, but I loved the word games Elizabeth and Freddy played, and assuming there‘s a next one, I will definitely be reading it. 4.5⭐️

For my cousin (11) and looks so good! The book itself is also beautiful, the windows are cutouts in the dust jacket and the actual hard cover has the house printed on it, and a map on the end paper. 😍
2.5/5 ⭐️s // I like the first half of this book much better than the second. a neat storyline, but it dragged on and on, far more than it needed to.
A sweet intriguing mystery book. Read for the May #Buzzwordathon - House/Home 3.75/5
Maps in books can be so pretty. I‘m perpetually lost tho - so they don‘t really help me understand where anything is...
(Yes, I‘m that millennial that had never needed to read a map, who factors getting lost time into how long it‘ll take to get somewhere new and as a general rule, if I feel strongly that I should turn one way... then I should turn the other)
This book goes straight to the ❤ Best read during a snow storm, wrapped into a warm blanket with a hot chocolate and some Turkish Delights.
Elizabeth is such a lovely character and I enjoyed it so much to discover the mysteries at Winterhouse with her and Freddy. Really, if someone would send me to Winterhouse, I'd go immediately!

#BookSpinBingo board cleared!
Also finished my #BookSpin and #DoubleSpin today. Now it's time to catch up with the reviews again - I always get the review stress at the end of the month 😂

WINTERHOUSE is a magical middle grade mystery that ties together a ghost story with a huge love of books, wordplay (especially anagrams), secret codes, and puzzles. I especially loved the friendship between Elizabeth and Freddy, and how they brought out the best in each other. This book is suspenseful without ever being too scary for kids on the younger end of the MG age range. It's a fun, wholesome read that keeps you on your toes throughout.
Here's my #BookSpinBingo board for January ❤
My #BookSpin is Winterhouse and my #DoubleSpin is Dune vol. 4 😍 I will finish both books by the end of the month. Dune because it's a bit of a chunkster and Winterhouse because it's part of a BuddyRead.

This was a great middle grade mystery set in a grand hotel over the winter holiday. I look forward to reading more in the series.
A delightful mystery with a plucky young heroine and her inventor side kick. I look forward to reading the second one! #elementaryfiction #mystery #hotels #magic
Puzzles, books, libraries...right up my alley. 84 pages in and I think this book will rate right up there with Escape from Mr. Lemoncello‘s Library.
Getting ready to start the tagged book ....but first, this fun song rewrite.

I really loved the two kids. They're curious and smart and kinda odd balls. Good mystery and setting...just a TON of elements of Harry Potter.
Neglectful guardian aunt & uncle. Vague blurry memory of parents death.
Inexplicably sent to magical place. Makes friends with smarty pants. Weird kinda sketchy Headmaster--I mean...Hotel Director that watches from a distance and helps when needed. Random magic around Hogwart--I mean...hotel.
This cover is just so cute and in always down for a weird mysterious hotel in a middle grade.
This was a fun read aloud book. My partner and I enjoyed it. I want to go to Winterhouse and hang out in the library! It's a fun middle readers mystery with puzzles, a bit of magic and some tender friend dynamics. Looking forward to the next one!
This is the current read-aloud book for my partner and I. It's a cute, fun middle readers book with a book nerd main character who spends a lot of time in an amazing library!
A great idea but somehow didn't live up to my expectations.
So these are my results for #24b4Monday .... Not that great, but not that bad. 😂 @Andrew65
I really loved the tagged book. I read it in one sitting. I loved the setting, I love the idea and I love the bookish hints within. Such a great story. 💕 if you like books about books, this would be a great choice. 😘
'teatime' in Germany during my #24b4Monday 💕💕💕 I am really enjoying this book... Sometimes I wonder, why it takes me so long to find a book, I enjoy so much 😍
@Andrew65
Now up to the next book. 🤩😍 @scripturient and I decided, that we can exchange books from time to time, because we both care about our books. This is the first book she gave to me. 😘 Hope it is as good as it looks like. #24b4Monday @Andrew65
When you have been reading some heavy reads, you shake up the reading life with a young reader selection.
Perfectly fine, I guess, but not for me right now. Gotta say, I'm not sure it would have been for child me either.
I'm giving this book until the end of part 1 to grab me. There must be puzzles by that point, right?
I really loved this book: the setting, the characters, the mystery. ❤️ The only thing that bothered me a little were unnecessary repetitions, such as Elizabeth and Freddy constantly stressing how great they find each other. Yeah, we get it, they are clever kids, good at solving riddles - no need to assure us of that fact every 2 minutes. 🙄 All in all, it is a wonderful middle grade book and I can‘t wait for part two to come out.
Look at this cover! 😍 And now tell me you‘d be able to resist it. I bought this on our bookshop crawl yesterday and I got the German edition so that I can read it to the kid. Of course, mummy has to do a quality check first. Right? So excuse me while I‘m visiting Winter House. I‘ll read ya later. 🙋🏻♀️😊

Cute juvenile level book with a hotel full of secrets. Elizabeth‘s awe about books (love all the references) and her budding friendships with the other guests were just lovely to read. Although, the other kid, Freddy, who became besties with Elizabeth, was a bit of a pill for my tastes. But I‘ll definitely read the next one.
My niece is reading this right now! It looks great! I want to read it she she's done! 😍📚

SWETH!!! (I‘m not sure if this is a spoiler so I‘m tagging just in case?)
Something‘s up with this signature on the business card. I CAN FEEL IT IN MY BONES!
I‘m loving Elizabeth so far! We both make anagrams of every word we see. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🦄
This wasn't my favorite. The pacing felt off and the story was bogged down with unimportant-to-the-plot scenes. Enjoyed parts of it and will check out the second book when it comes out. #middlegrade
Orphan Elizabeth‘s aunt and uncle ship her off to the Winterhouse Hotel, owned by Norbridge Falls. Upon arrival, Elizabeth quickly discovers that Winterhouse has many charms―most notably its library. It‘s not long before she locates a magical book that will unlock a mystery involving Norbridge and his family. The the deeper she delves into the hotel‘s secrets, the more Elizabeth starts to realize that she is somehow connected to Winterhouse.
