This book is a children‘s biography book about Barack Obama. This book would be a great book for an IR or a read aloud. This book can be read during election times or Presidents Day. #ucflae3414f19

Erinehart A URL strategy that would be appropriate for this text is 3.1 “activate or supply background knowledge” doing so will allow the students do know about the person before they read. 3w
Erinehart An ESOL strategy that I would use for this text is #16. “Integrate speaking, listening, reading and writing activities”. This allows the students to grasp the text a little bit more than just hearing it. 3w

Erinehart This book is a book of poems of a little cricket. I would use this book for a RL. An UDL strategy that I would use for this text is 2.3 “support deciding if text and symbols because a poem could be read differently than a regular text. 3w
Erinehart A ESOL strategy that I would use for this book and RL is #20. List the most important words and phrases you use or plan to use.” 3w

Tornadoes! | Gail Gibbons

Tornadoes by written and illustrated by Gail Gibbons is an NF children‘s book. I would use this book for a story telling to a class of k-2. This book provides facts on tornadoes and shows how destructive they can be. #ucflae3414f19

Erinehart A UDL strategy that I would use for this book is 2.5 “illustrate through multiple media.” By providing images while reading this text can get the students more engaged throughout. 3w
Erinehart An ESOL strategy that I would use is #15 “reinforce the key ideas you present again and again”. Doing this will allow the ELL to hear the same thing repetitively and will give them a better opportunity to comprehend it. 3w

This HF picture book tells a story of a family coming to America by boat. The voyage to America was not easy by any means. The boat was having trouble and they were running out of food and water. By the time they reached America they find out it is a special day for America. #ucflae3414f19

Erinehart This would be a great book for a class read aloud during the month of November because it‘s based on Thanksgiving. A UDL strategy that I would use is 1.3 “offer alternatives for visual information” because I feel as though the student would be more engaged throughout the text. 3w
Erinehart The ESOL strategy that I feel would be of use during this read aloud is #14 “simplify your speech by making it slower and redundant. Doing this will allow the ELLs to break down the words and have a chance to understand the content. 3w

This RF book written by R.J Palacio is a great book and truly eye opening. This book was written and the. Turned into a major motion picture. I think this book would be great for an LC. #ucflae3414f19

Erinehart A UDL strategy that I would use for this book is 5.2 “use multiple tools for construction as composition”. This will allow the students to write out important information from the book and comprehend the text better. (edited) 3w
Erinehart An ESOL strategy that I would use for this text is #9. Teach note taking strategies. By having the students take notes, they are able to see the text through their own text. 3w

A Different Pond is a realistic fiction children literature book that illustrates the life of a child and a father on a long who fishing trip. This book is a 2018 Caldecott Honor Book and is a must read. This author gives a glimpse of what his life was like growing up and how the boy and father woke up hours before the father had to go to work to go fishing on the shore of a small pond in Minneapolis to make sure the family is fed. #ucflae3414f19

Erinehart This would be a great book for an IR for a third grade class. An ESOL strategy I would use is #44; focus on thinking skills, predict, categorize, classify, observe and report, sequence, summarize. This would fall hand in hand with this IR because it allows the student to jot down some inferences while reading the text. 1mo

One Crazy Summer | Rita Williams-Garcia

One Crazy Summer is both heartbreaking and a funny tale about three girls who travel to California in 1968 to spend the summer with their mother who abandoned them. One Crazy Summer has multiple awards including the Scott O‘dell Award, Newberry Award, National Book Award, and Coretta Scott King Award. #ucflae3414f19

Erinehart This is a book I would suggest for an IR for 4th or 5th grade class. A UDL strategy that could be used with this is to activate or supply background knowledge. This created higher level thinking for the student. https://b0f646cfbd7462424f7a-f9758a43fb7c33cc8adda0fd36101899.ssl.cf2.rackcdn.co... is a good resource for both teachers and students. It could be a great guide before and after reading. (edited) 1mo
Erinehart An ESOL strategy I would is #43: have students underline or highlight key words or important facts while reading. 1mo

This is Not My Hat | Jon Klassen
post image
Pickpick

In this Caldecott medal award winning PB “This Is Not My Hat” a little fish steals a big fish‘s hat while the big fish is asleep. This little fish believes he will get away and puts his trust into the crab not to tell anyone but crab has a different plan. The crab points the big fish to where the little fish is hiding and the big fish finds the little fish with the stolen hat.

Erinehart I would use the RA strategy because I feel as though the students would be able to understand the content more if read by someone else. I would be able to stop and ask questions and get the students engaged. And ESOL strategy that I could use is #17: provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, realia, body language and facial expressions. This is a perfect strategy to use during an active read aloud. (edited) 1mo
AleciaM This sounds like a really good book for younger kids. I really like the ESOL stategy you use to post pictures for them to refer to. 1mo

Owen | Kevin Henkes

Mehso-so

In this fiction children‘s book, Owen is a little mouse who can‘t seem to let go of his fuzzy blanket. However his parents and his neighbor Mrs. Tweezers are trying to come up with different ideas to get Owen to give up his “fuzzy” and become a big boy. #ucflae3414f19

Erinehart This would be a great book to incorporate a RL. ESOL strategy #44 is a great strategy to use because it focuses on making predictions, observing and reporting. A UDL strategy I would use is to increase mastery-orientated feedback. Allowing students to engage and provide feedback and questions will provide a better understanding of the text. (edited) 1mo
Erinehart web.uvic.ca:8080/wits/pdfs/schools/books/owen/owen.pdf this lesson plan gives the students an opportunity to ask questions before reading, during reading, and after reading which falls hand in hand with the ESOL learning strategy. 1mo

Actual Size | Steve Jenkins
post image
Pickpick

Actual Size by Steve Jenkins is a great non-fiction literature book for children. This book gives information of different animals and shows the creature in its actual size! This book would be a great choose for a children read aloud. During a read aloud the teacher can go over different vocabulary words pertaining to the text and children can also relate to seeing some of these animals in the book. #ucflae3414f19

Erinehart This book would be wonderful for a RL because there‘s a lot that a teacher could incorporate with it. https://www.brighthubeducation.com/lesson-plans-grade; this lesson plan allows the student to participate in a hands on activity learning about the different of objects. A great ESOL strategy that would coincide with this lesson would be #46 because the learning is being expanded through a hands on activity. 1mo
Erinehart A UDL strategy I would use with this book would be “clarifying vocabulary and symbols.” This is a great strategy because this book may have some text that is unfamiliar to the students. 1mo
