#ucflae3414f19 The Day the Crayons Quit is an adorable F children's book written by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers. This is a #1 NYT Best Seller and is just the cutest book that will have the children laughing! This book would be great as a RA or even a storytelling.

Erinehart A UDL strategy that would be great for this is 5.2 “Use multiple tools for construction and composition“. 4y
Erinehart An ESOL strategy that would be beneficial for this text is #17 “Provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, realia, body language and facial expressions.“.

Where the Wild Things Are | Maurice Sendak

#ucflae3414f19 Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, is a MF story of a little boy named Max. After his mother sends him to bed without dinner, Max falls asleep and his room immediately turns into a moonlit forest surrounded by a gigantic ocean. For some reason growing up, this book was not one of my favorites however the more I read it the more I begin to appreciate it. This book would be great as a RA or a LC for grades k-5.

Erinehart The UDL strategy that I think would be useful for this text is 1.2 “Offer alternatives for auditory information.“ and the ESOL strategy I found the be good for this text is #14 “Simplify your speech by making it slower and redundant.“ I find this especially important for a read aloud. 4y

This website provides teachers with different activities and lesson relating the book.
4y
YvetteE I chose to model the same book because this is one of my favorite stories! The book is more fun to read as an adult because now we understand how mom could be so terrible. 4y
DrSpalding I absolutely love this resource. This book also makes an excellent readers theater but of course should be read aloud. Remember our conversation in class, this could be considered modern fantasy or some believe it is realistic fiction and that Max is dreaming. 4y

Erinehart #ucflae3414f19 First Day Jitters is an adorable RF children‘s PB written by Julie Danneberg. It's about a teacher who just doesn't want to go in for her first day of school. While reading this, you don't know it's referring to a teachers until the very last page. I think this book would be great for a RA on the first day of school for a class k-3 to calm the students nerves. (edited) 4y
Erinehart https://www.weareteachers.com/first-day-jitters-activities/ this website is a great resource for different activities relating to the first day of school that would go great with this book. 4y
Erinehart A UDL strategy that I found would be great for this text is 1.1 “Offer ways of customizing the display of information .“
A ESOL that would work with this text is #14 “Simplify your speech by making it slower and redundant“. This is very important for RA, because without the students actually seeing the text it is important as the teacher that you are delivering it in a way they can understand.

DrSpalding I will read Last Day Blues on our last day. This certainly should be a read aloud on the first day of school. Great use of this high-quality resource. 4y

#ucflae3414f19 If You Give A Mouse A Cookie written by Laura Joffe Numeroff and illustrated by Felicia Bond was always such a fun book for me growing up. This children's F PB was a NYT best sellers and was first published in 1985.

Erinehart A UDL strategy that I would use during this RA is 5.2 “Use multiple tools for construction and composition.“ Providing the students with different visuals and tools to get the engaged.
A ESOL strategy for this text would be #17 “Provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, realia, body language and facial expressions“

YvetteE Students in early grades love the mouse books! A great book to introduce phonics for letters, “C“ and“M.“ 4y
DrSpalding These circle stories are truly engaging and while 5.2 could work… That would possibly work better if you cited storytelling. 4y

#ucflae3414f19 The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm is a children's science fiction novel written by Nancy Farmer. This tells a story of a chief general leading a battle against the gangs which terrorize the nation in 2194. This book would be great as an IR for grade levels 4-5.

Erinehart https://www.shmoop.com/the-ear-the-eye-the-arm/ This is a great resource for this text to get a better insight of what the text is about as it provides a summary. 4y
Erinehart The UDL strategy that I would use for this novel is 2.1 “Clarify vocabulary and symbols.“ Since this is science fiction, there are some vocabulary words that may be unfamiliar to the students.
An ESOL strategy that would be great for this text is #9 “Teach note-taking strategies: T-lists, time lines etc.“
4y
DrSpalding This definitely looks like a middle grade novel and could be used as a literature circle or as you noted independent reading. 4y

#ucflae3414f19 Thank You, Omu by Oge Mora is a RF book that would be great to be read as a RA. This book tells a story of grandmother who opens her heart to the world and begins to share this delicious soup with everyone. But when she runs out, what would she possibly do? Through this RA, you can teach students the kindness of sharing.

Erinehart The UDL strategy that would fit this book perfectly is 9.1 “Promote expectations and beliefs that optimize motivation.“ Each student could all state what their idea of kindness is.
4y
Erinehart The ESOL that I would use for this book is #5 “Teach technical vocabulary supporting key concepts.“. Doing so, you will keep the students engaged while making sure they are understanding the content which is important. 4y

This book follows a young boy named C.J who learns to appreciate the beauty of everyday as he travels by bus. I would use this book with a classroom k-5 for an RA.

Erinehart A UDL stratgey that I would use with this text is 7.2 “Optimize relevance, value, and authenticity“.
A ESOL strategy that could be use with this text is #22 “Give enough wait time for second language learners to respond to questions“. By doing this, it will allow the second language learners to participate as well.

#ucflae3414f19 The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein is a poetry book written about a boy and his relationship with a tree. This book would be of great use in a classroom library. I would use this book for storytelling and would bring he giving tree to life.

Erinehart The UDL strategy the I find would work for this book is 3.3 “Guide information processing and visualization.“ and an ESOL strategy that I would use is #14 “Simplify your speech by making it slower and redundant.“ A ESOL strategy that I would use with this text is 2.2 “Clarify syntax and structure“; since it is poetry it is important that the student is able to understand how to read the text. This is a great resource and a lt of information can be found here.

Erinehart A URL strategy that would be appropriate for this text is 3.1 “activate or supply background knowledge” doing so will allow the students do know about the person before they read. 4y
Erinehart An ESOL strategy that I would use for this text is #16. “Integrate speaking, listening, reading and writing activities”. This allows the students to grasp the text a little bit more than just hearing it. 4y

Erinehart This book is a book of poems about bugs. I would use this book for a RL with a class k-3. There are poems throughout the book of a little cricket. An UDL strategy that I would use for this text is 2.3 “support deciding if text and symbols because a poem could be read differently than a regular text.“ Since poems are to be read differently, it is important to discuss that with the students and acknowledge that it is not just a normal text. (edited) 4y
Erinehart A ESOL strategy that I would use for this book and RL is #20. List the most important words and phrases you use or plan to use.”. Since some poems aren't extremely detailed, it is important the the students are still able to get the information from the text. (edited) 4y

This TL children‘s book is a great book for a class RL. Growing up this was one of my favorite traditional literature books, I would always have my grandmother read it to me. This book contains pop-ups through providing a true visual of the text. I would use this text as a storytelling or it could be use through a RA. for grade levels k-2. #ucflae3414f19

Erinehart A UDL strategy that I would use for this text is 7.3 “minimize threats and distractions.” Since there are already pop-up throughout the text it is important that the students are paying attention. (edited) 4y
Erinehart An ESOL strategy that I found would work best with this text and RA would be #17 “Provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, realia, body language and facial expressions“. Since there is only 4 pages to the story that means that there is a decent amount of text. By providing visuals, models, and demonstrations, the students will be able to get a better understanding. 4y

Tornadoes written and illustrated by Gail Gibbons is an NF children‘s book. This book provides information on the different types of tornadoes and where they occur. I would use this book for a story telling to a class of k-2. This book provides facts on tornadoes and shows how destructive they can be. #ucflae3414f19

Erinehart A UDL strategy that I would use for this book is 2.5 “illustrate through multiple media.” By providing images while reading this text can get the students more engaged throughout. 4y
Erinehart An ESOL strategy that I would use is #15 “reinforce the key ideas you present again and again”. Doing this will allow the ELL to hear the same thing repetitively and will give them a better opportunity to comprehend it. 4y

Erinehart This would be a great book for a class read aloud during the month of November because it‘s based on Thanksgiving. A UDL strategy that I would use is 1.3 “offer alternatives for visual information” because I feel as though the student would be more engaged throughout the text. 4y
Erinehart The ESOL strategy that I feel would be of use during this read aloud is #14 “simplify your speech by making it slower and redundant. Doing this will allow the ELLs to break down the words and have a chance to understand the content. 4y

This RF book written by R.J Palacio is a great book and truly eye opening. This book was written and then later turned into a major motion picture. I think this book would be great for an LC as it would be great for open discussion. #ucflae3414f19

Erinehart A UDL strategy that I would use for this book is 5.2 “use multiple tools for construction as composition”. This will allow the students to write out important information from the book and comprehend the text better. Doing so students will be able to take notes each week and actively engage in the LC. (edited) 4y
Erinehart An ESOL strategy that I would use for this text is #9. Teach note taking strategies. By having the students take notes, they are able to see the text through their own text. 4y

A Different Pond is a realistic fiction children literature book that illustrates the life of a child and a father on a long who fishing trip. This book is a 2018 Caldecott Honor Book and is a must read. This author gives a glimpse of what his life was like growing up and how the boy and father woke up hours before the father had to go to work to go fishing on the shore of a small pond in Minneapolis to make sure the family is fed. #ucflae3414f19

Erinehart This would be a great book for an IR for a third grade class. This would fall hand in hand with this IR because it allows the student to jot down some inferences while reading the text. 4y

Erinehart This is a book I would suggest for an IR for 4th or 5th grade class. A UDL strategy that could be used with this is to activate or supply background knowledge. This created higher level thinking for the student. https://b0f646cfbd7462424f7a-f9758a43fb7c33cc8adda0fd36101899.ssl.cf2.rackcdn.co... is a good resource for both teachers and students. In this Caldecott medal award winning PB “This Is Not My Hat” a little fish steals a big fish‘s hat while the big fish is asleep. This little fish believes he will get away and puts his trust into the crab not to tell anyone but crab has a different plan. The crab points the big fish to where the little fish is hiding and the big fish finds the little fish with the stolen hat.

Erinehart I would use the RA strategy because I feel as though the students would be able to understand the content more if read by someone else. I would be able to stop and ask questions and get the students engaged. And ESOL strategy that I could use is #17: provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, realia, body language and facial expressions. This is a perfect strategy to use during an active read aloud. (edited) 4y

Erinehart This would be a great book to incorporate a RL. ESOL strategy #44 is a great strategy to use because it focuses on making predictions, observing and reporting. A UDL strategy I would use is to increase mastery-orientated feedback. Allowing students to engage and provide feedback and questions will provide a better understanding of the text. (edited) 4y

Actual Size by Steve Jenkins is a great non-fiction literature book for children. This book gives information of different animals and shows the creature in its actual size! This book would be a great choose for a children read aloud. During a read aloud the teacher can go over different vocabulary words pertaining to the text and children can also relate to seeing some of these animals in the book. #ucflae3414f19

Erinehart This book would be wonderful for a RL because there‘s a lot that a teacher could incorporate with it. https://www.brighthubeducation.com/lesson-plans-grade; this lesson plan allows the student to participate in a hands on activity learning about the different of objects. A great ESOL strategy that would coincide with this lesson would be #46 because the learning is being expanded through a hands on activity. 4y
Erinehart A UDL strategy I would use with this book would be “clarifying vocabulary and symbols.” This is a great strategy because this book may have some text that is unfamiliar to the students. 4y
