Not the thriller I was expecting, more a family drama. However, it was packed with action and intriguing characters. Lisa Jewell always delivers.

This book was not a thriller. It was a slow burn family drama with maybe a small hint of mystery. I went into this book just waiting for something thrilling to happen, and when it never did, it was a letdown. If I would have went in with a different mindset, I might have liked it more. But, it felt like I was waiting for a twist that never happened. There were some twists, but I felt like they were all pretty obvious from the get-go. 3/5
Okay, last review for this morning. Another mixed-feelings read. I did like this one, although it's more “can't look away from the upcoming train wreck“ than it is thriller. There were a few things that just didn't jive for me. But the pacing was good - Jewell has a definite knack for making me think I should read just another chapter... or five. However, I'm not sure I'll pick up the sequel.

I started this years ago but fell into a huge reading slump &put it aside. I‘m glad I came back to it as I enjoyed seeing this story told by an unreliable narrator, a woman w/ a hidden past, &a girl discovering the truth about her bio family. I liked how this all came together to create one intertwining story. This goes a little off the rails for me at the end & I found there to be a few too many twists which I felt diminished the effect of them.

What are you reading?😊
3 years ago @Lauranahe got me this book for the #HHS and I FINALLY got to read it. This books was so good! I loved the characters and how I got to glimpse into their minds throughout the different situations. Sometimes, 3 different storylines can get confusing, but this really worked. Great twists and turns. This was so good, I'm nervous to read the second one and possibly ruin it.
Thank you, Amanda!

It was a quite good crime book for a rainy day. It did expect something else but it was a good twisted story.
Starting off the new year with this pair of thrillers!
I like Lisa Jewell but I have only read a handful of her books. A friend of mine is a big fan and gifted me these two as she knew I hadn‘t read them yet.
A perfect psychological family drama full of suspense. I would have finished this much sooner if it weren‘t for illness 😏
Captivating and atmospheric story, full of twists. Excellent character development throughout, with a perfect ending. Will look out for more Jewell books!
The story is told from three different points of view, one of them narrating what happened 25 years ago before “the baby” (Libby) and the three dead people were found. It took me quite a while to figure out all the characters and although it wasn‘t overtly mentioned how the characters were related until later in the story, I did eventually figure it out. Cont in comments...
I can see why this is one of her popular titles! Spooky premise, with a solid build up, and unexpected twists. It left off in a slightly odd spot though, but I suppose that's why there's now a sequel! Will be interesting to see if that one ties up some loose ends. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Creepy. Still not sure I trust one of the characters. Sad twists and unexpected turns. All set in a creepy gothic mansion.
Absolutely brilliant! I thoroughly enjoyed this gripping and compelling read. It‘s such a page turner with loads of twists and turns. Looking forward to the sequel!
Loved it!!! Great story, good twists and lined up nicely for it's sequel.
Could. Not. Put. This. Down. Well paced, intriguing, disturbing yet compelling and brilliantly written. Must see what else of Jewell's I can get to read. Fantastic book.
A good read. Kept me hooked as to what would happen. Slightly rushed at the end and left me wanting to know more about the characters.
Next up . . . Love a bit of Jewell. This is for book group.
Such a dark, twisted, entangled tale of lies, secrets and a whole lot more!
Libby learns about the identity of her birth and finds out she is the sole inheritor of a mansion in Chelsea. Everything in Libby‘s life is about to change.
Lucy Jewell is the queen of thrillers especially those involving dysfunctional families.
I like where we're going and how we're getting there so far
🎃 I do! I want to finish this one and start something new!
🎃🎃 I love casseroles so I‘m going to go with corn casserole and squash casserole 🥘

Mysterious, gothic house, interesting backstory. More mystery than thriller, in my mind. The narrators did an excellent job with the #audiobook #Libby
Soup and reading on a chilly day! I had a dream about a creepy house last night! I wonder why?! 😱
Happy Monday everyone 🧡🍂🤎
Great, I thought I was tired of books that switched pov throughout the book, but it was used well in this story. Couldn't put this down, ending was perfect! One book finished for #NovelNovember @Andrew65
Hard to get back to another book when I finish one I REALLY liked!
Getting a few chapters read in between phone calls

2. My grandson Will - 14 months and so much fun
3. When a wrong name is used midway in a book - I start to think “who is that character, why don't I remember him/her“ then I realize the author meant some other character - and then I'm out of the story - luckily it doesn't happen often

My last day at #home before a work week. It‘s been a great week! Picnic with my love yesterday, reading, writing Christmas cards, short trip out of town! I am very blessed! Since I was up until after 1am I think I will read and listen to the rain until I drift off ☔️ 😴

Make a great day everyone - and consider yourself tagged if you are reading this !
This book was really good. It's sort of a mystery. A woman inherits a house where a tragedy happened. She was a baby and the only person found alive in the house. But what happened to everyone else that was living there?

Not so much a positive quote as much as something I saw today that made me smile (I'm still in a halloween frame of mind)
Make a great night everyone.
Wow. another one, great! The details of what happened is so cringy.
A big 👍to this one. Audio narration was excellent and the ending! I can‘t remember the last time I was so excited for a sequel.
When you're on a good thing ... 🙂 Another Lisa Jewell mystery/family drama read for me that I got quite immersed in. Thanks for the recommendation @TheLudicReader ⭐⭐⭐.5 What a story!

I read this engrossing, menacing-mood thriller in a few days. A young, adopted woman comes into her inheritance of a mansion from her birth parents and tries to find out more about them, and their violent deaths. It isn't quite perfect--the concealment of Lucy's true identity feels forced and unnatural after awhile--but the character development and narration, which switches from memoirs to present action, are great.
Just found this book at a thrift store and started reading last night. I am on chapter five and so far it is a good read. Gotta finish before I go back home Mari Sands
