After I Do
After I Do: A Novel | Taylor Jenkins Reid
From the author of Forever, Interruptedhailed by Sarah Jio as moving, gorgeous, and at times heart-wrenchingcomes a breathtaking new novel about modern marriage, the depth of family ties, and the year that one remarkable heroine spends exploring both. When Lauren and Ryans marriage reaches the breaking point, they come up with an unconventional plan. They decide to take a year off in the hopes of finding a way to fall in love again. One year apart, and only one rule: they cannot contact each other. Aside from that, anything goes. Lauren embarks on a journey of self-discovery, quickly finding that her friends and family have their own ideas about the meaning of marriage. These influences, as well as her own healing process and the challenges of living apart from Ryan, begin to change Laurens ideas about monogamy and marriage. She starts to question: When you can have romance without loyalty and commitment without marriage, when love and lust are no longer tied together, what do you value? What are you willing to fight for? This is a love story about what happens when the love fades. Its about staying in love, seizing love, forsaking love, and committing to love with everything youve got. And above all, After I Do is the story of a couple caught up in an old gameand searching for a new road to happily ever after.

I love TJR, she‘s my favorite author right now so I‘m going back and reading all of her books. When this book started I was unsure because it felt predictable, and maybe it kind of was but her writing is so good that it didn‘t feel predictable. I also listened to this one and it‘s read by my favorite narrator, Julie Whelan. Book #5 in 2023

This book is really good. Marriage is hard & messy sometimes. Do you give up or work thru it? This couple decided to separate for a year and decide what to do after that. The book follows Lauren as she goes thru all the emotions of the separation, but we also hear from Ryan. I really didn't know what either of them would do. I laughed & cried. Great book!

I listened to After I Do. After seven years of marriage, Lauren and Ryan separate for a year in hopes of rekindling their love. It was engaging but straightforward--not twisty, as other novels by Jenkins Reid. 3.5 stars

After a stale September of reading I‘m getting a jump start on October and all I can say is 😭.

I loved this book and found myself so emotionally involved. It‘s the kind that you don‘t want to end. I found myself rooting for the characters the whole way through and stressing it wouldn‘t turn out how I wanted.

Here‘s to my first #bookspin book for October

Lauren and Ryan have reached a point in their marriage where they have lost their bearings. They have become complacent. The way they find themselves again was so personal. They wrote their own path learning there is no set way to go about a marriage.

My second TJR read and wow, this was a phenomenal book! It‘s an honest portrayal of what goes on in a long-term relationship — realistic like no other romance book I‘ve read, and still so inspiring.

“All that matters is that you open your heart, give everything you have, and keep trying.” Highly recommended.

Ok, TJR is now officially one of my favorite authors. This story is about a couple, Lauren & Ryan, who have been together for 11 years and have been steadily growing apart. They agree to separate for one year with no contact to see if their marriage is worth saving. I‘ve gotten little else done today because I had to finish this book. She captures the everyday aspect of relationships so well, and the characters are very relatable. I absolutely ⬇️

What I liked the most about this book is the realistic description of a love story, from the fabulous "falling-in-love" phase to "marriage in crisis". However, even though I found the main character well developed, I think the author put less effort in developing the secondary characters, which makes it harder for me to empathize with them.
Overall I enjoyed this read and I think I will read other books by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I've read nearly all of Taylor Jenkins Reid's books now and I have to say this one is probably my favorite so far. It's a simple story about a marriage falling apart, but it manages to flesh out how complicated matters of the heart can truly get. While relatable, it's not a predictable story. You really don't know what will (or should) happen to these characters. I think that's what made it such a heartbreaking read in the first place.

And then I read it so fast because I loved it (note the time of the photo)! It's a fast read, but full of really thoughtful questions, perspectives and examples of marriage and relationships. It challenges assumptions and one-size-fits-all thinking. is relatable and warm. It reminded me a bit of Emily Giffin's writing.
