Ok so to be perfectly honest I wasn't paying enough attention to the first couple of chapters, which i realize now was a big mistake lol. Because halfway through I was like, wait...what just happened?! But kept trucking along because it's only a 3 hour long audio so figured it'd all wrap itself up soon. And it did...so...SPOILER: This book is not actually about mannequins 😂

Don't get this on audio lol.
Also this is gonna be a real hot take but I think this story would work better as a movie. Trying to piece together who's who, when the plot is literally about people not being who they say they are, and then throwing in an unreliable narrator, was a bit of a headache 😵‍💫

A fun ride, but definitely did not need to be 14 hours long. Felt a bit dated at times despite being published this summer. The author doesn't seem to know how cell phones work, or what Las Vegas is like. She is also almost 80 years old which might have something to do with it 👽

This book has a lot of layers to it, with a lot of different characters, in a lot off different places, in a lot of different time periods. I know it's taboo to say so but it might actually work better on screen lol (upcoming on Hulu, idk when though). Lots of family and generational trauma, but I can't help but feel like some of it could have been avoided if people had just communicated better?!

It Ends With Us | Colleen Hoover

Mehso-so

This entire book is so tragic, I don't understand why it's being pushed as a romance novel. The subject matter is tough (domestic abuse) and I understand dealing with these things isn't black and white. But I feel like the author romanticizes it too much which kind of grossed me out. I will say it was very readable, in the way a bad Lifetime movie is watchable. It's terrible and sad but you're glued to the screen to see what happens anyway.

Blueberry Yuck again😧 1y

Trying this out simply because I've been seeing Colleen Hoover everywhere lately. Only 5 chapters in though and I'm just not vibing with it. Is this really what people find romantic now??? Like just badgering women until they reluctantly agree to sleep with you?

Lost internet at work tonight which gave me plenty of time to finish this. Seems like every millennial in the world has this on their shelf right now! The content was sad but her writing style is very readable. While the overarching theme is her mom I felt like this was more about eating disorders than anything; so if that is something that distresses you I'd advise to read with caution.

Trying to finish this bc I like the plot. But I have to say it's tough to get through with how fat-phobic the writing is. The main character wakes up in a different body & literally says "I resemble some grotesque caricature of the human body," then goes ON about it for 10 chapters. I don't think describing a body as fat is an insult (I'm fat! btw). But to harp on about how gross, pathetic & humiliating it must be for a fat person IS insulting.

Just finished this one. Was seeing lots of hype for it but honestly wasn't super into it? Not much substance, main character wasn't interesting and the only juicy reveal wasn't until the end, but not interesting enough that I'd read another one. Felt very 2010 supernatural YA trilogy.
