When the Moon Was Ours | Anna-Marie McLemore
post image

"I wrote this book for readers who‘ve been told that the only story they‘re allowed is one the world decides for them...For trans*boys like my husband who‘ve gotten turned away from jobs for how they look and who they are. For his trans* siblings who‘ve been denied housing, who are afraid to walk down the street, who‘ve had to fight for every moment of being seen as who they are."

National Book Award finalist Lauren Groff has a new story in The New Yorker. Read it and then pick up her amazing novel FATES AND FURIES.

DivineDiana What is the mystifying image? 8y
SGJ She's a good writer. Didn't know about the NYer story. I'll now steal that issue from the gym. Thanks. 8y

sarahandbettynyc Fates and Furies was incredible, just finished it this weekend 8y
Sydsavvy This is gorgeous 8y
Spiderfelt My bookclub read this a few months ago. It left all of us mystified and a bit disgruntled. Why the universal love for this book? Would love to hear from someone who adored it. 8y
Cinfhen Wasn't a fan favorite at our book club either 😕 8y
DivineDiana @Spiderfelt Very disappointed. I attended a talk by Lauren Groff and loved her! 8y
SusanCoulby The concept was a good one, but I thought the second half in particular was cluttered with extraneous plot devices. It would have been more compelling and less disappointing without them. 8y
itsbrb @Spiderfelt I'm with you on not understanding all the excitement. If it was because it was from two different perspectives, that's been done and it was done a lot better. 8y
PoolsideReader I can't say that I loved Fates or even liked it. But I can say that it is a book that has stayed with me, even months later. 8y
DenverBookNerd Stayed w/me too, but those characters were pretentious! 8y
krismlars 130 pages into this one and not impressed so far. 8y
Abailliekaras Incredible writing, cut like poetry. I didn't love everything about the plot but it was one of the strongest books I've read in the past year. 8y
perfectlywinged I couldn't finish her earlier book monsters of templeton but Fates and Furies grabbed me from that first scene on the beach I I could barely breathe while reading!!! 8y
Spiderfelt Agreed @itsbrb. I guess different strokes for different folks. 8y
Macnjen I had such great hopes for this but I really didn't care for the story or the characters. Several of the references I didn't get either, maybe it was beyond me? Disappointed. 8y
bookdawg @goheun you have my copy of this! tell me how it is 🤘🏻 8y
Nat_Reads I loved the first half and raced through it. By the end I was so confused and a little disheartened--writing, characters, story--excellent. My own expectations hurt my experience. Can't wait to read more by her! 8y
Nat_Reads @Abailliekaras My feelings exactly! 8y
