Mm dans les orties | Aurelie Valognes

Pickpick

Went to France, visited a bookstore, asked for recommendations on French authors. Left with arms full of pockets, most of them with a big touch of fun. Loved this one - grumpy old man slowly defrosts to smartass neighbour girl. Near the end things got a bit cheesy but enough surprising turns to keep going!

This is not the best book to read when you‘re on the road for a two week holiday. So many things I want to implement and work with! On the other hand: two weeks bring the opportunity to really think things through and make some lasting changes when home...

Getting back in the Litsy-groove with #friyayintro @jesshowbooks

1. Packing. Lots of it. Oh, and probably figure out taxes too.
2. Peak season at school, but managed to slip in two good books. (I did read a lot but most of it was papers to grade lol)
3. Summer. Abundance of light does great things for my general mood. And it feels less *** to get woken up just before dawn by daughter.
4. Not much of a concert goer. Randy Newman I would say.

julesG More daylight definitely is an advantage. I like being woken by the sunlight, but my cats are usually up before the sun. 6y

Do things only exist if they have a name?

About one third in, I think this book is full of ponder-worthy lines. Apparently, someone shares that opinion, as there are plenty of pencil marks everywhere. And now I can‘t help but ask myself: would these parts also stand out to me if someone hadn‘t visually taken the lead?

I don't know who was the first to say: read something about a subject every month and you'll be a specialist very soon as nobody sticks to reading the latest on his subject. Well, I know this is not the community where that kind of statements would be tue, but point taken. I'm planning on adding more non fiction about religion to my reading list. Bought this and finished the first chapter. A lit to ponder (and a slightly uncomfortable read for me)

I do love the book and the author. But in this case, the philosophical style weighs too heavily on the narration, especially in the end. I've always admired Schmitt for the way he turns the most difficult subjects into stories that make your heart ache and smile at the same time. I miss that here. It reminds me too much of #paulocoelho , a bit too new age for me. (While in this case I can relate to many ideas on religion stated here).

The things I don't like about this book: I finished it. Things I do like: two more parts to come (but approximately 800 km away from mee). Fantasy at its best: great characters, original magic powers, much to be found out still. #canwegohomenow #summerreading

Dear naomi novik, this is an order. Go to your room and write a book. Repeat. Sincerely, me.

Songsofhome Honestly, she had me from page one. The beginning reminded me a bit of the beauty and the beast, and there was also a vague #robinhobb feeling (soldier's son trilogy), which is never bad, but at the same time it is fresh, great and unputdownable! Witches, wizzards, magic and an enchanted forest. Good versus evil, but evil can have a hint of good and vice versa. Loved it! 8y
