I‘m not sure why I finished this one… I wanted to set it aside, but I guess I wasn‘t ready to have my first DNF of the year… This romance just didn‘t do anything for me. Melody and Zac grew up together—he‘s her twin brother‘s BFF, but he ghosted her in high school & now it‘s been ten years & Melody returns to her hometown after a breakup with Connor, who she somehow managed to not see was controlling… drawn out & with repetitive words, not for me!

When a British family wins Q9 million, their lives change forever… proving that the TLC show THE LOTTERY RUINED MY LIFE isn‘t solely an American phenomenon. For 15 years, Lexi & Jake played the same numbers along with their two best couple friends. A fight breaks out between them… one week before Lexi buys the winning ticket. The ugly side of greed is on full display here, though the predictable plot gets bogged down with descriptions of wealth.

What a strong debut novel! I literally couldn‘t put this one down, staying up way too late to finish in one sitting! The book opens with a terrible family tragedy & though the plot‘s turns are not unexpected, it‘s a satisfying read that‘s sure to stir great conversations amongst readers! I can see why this is a #BOTM option for February! It reminds me of early Jodi Picoult but before she got all info-dumpy & preachy! Definitely recommend this one!

mcipher Oooh I love the idea of less info dumpy Picoult! Her writing is good but I hate her books because of the info overload! 24h
TorieStorieS @mcipher I know!! I feel the same way about her for I‘m not sure how many years now! But this one really reminded me of her books before she got to be such a household name… so pre-2003? 2004? Anyways, I honestly couldn‘t put this down— stayed up late to finish it and everything! 22h
mcipher My copy is on its way! And now I‘m gonna try any earlier Picoult and see if I like it!! 18h

I always enjoy audiobooks set in Australia & this performance is no exception! Mary‘s recently moved to Sydney with her childhood best friend, looking for a fresh start after getting out of a bad relationship. When she welcomes a new flatmate, Rachel, Mary feels an instant connection despite the wariness of her other friends. Fast-paced & incorporating journal entries, it certainly held some surprises in the plot though they‘re not all plausible!

After their Corny-O commercial‘s success, the twins are invited to audition for a real Hollywood movie! The competition is steep—& ready to play dirty! It comes down to the Wakefields versus the Parker twins, with plenty of attempts to take one another out! Plus, the star of the movie is set to be Jessica‘s latest muse, soap star Connie Boyer! Definitely a fun one from start to finish! I would‘ve loved this one when I was younger but had fun now!

It‘s been almost 3 years since I read & loved Wilkerson‘s debut novel! Her latest centers around the after-effects of trauma. The wealthy Freeman family has a long history, but for Ebby in particular, she feels defined by the tragedy that took her 15 year old brother. Multiple perspectives, covering modern & historical time periods, I‘m not surprised to see this as a #BOTM pick! I didn‘t love it as much as her first, but can‘t wait for her third!

SVMS spends a week out of school camping at the Bannerman Estate. Liz can‘t wait for outdoorsy fun, roasted marshmallows & some romantic time with Todd. Jess hopes for romance, too, but Aaron Dallas is more concerned with pranking everyone by crying, “Bear!” Plus, the Unicorns all look awful roughing it. Jess decides new 7th grader Dennis Asher is the one for her, but since Liz looks better, she pulls a reverse twin-switch to try to snag him!

My first experience with the author, I enjoyed this more than I expected! It‘s a fun enemies to lovers romance set between college freshmen who have always known each other. Seb & Sadie‘s parents are best friends— but Sadie is thrilled to be on her own at Maple Ride to be free from the expectations of being the responsible & quiet Brighton. Seb‘s sudden appearance takes her back to their competitive days. PG-rated & reminds me of Modern Family!

The final book in the #FrighteningFour miniseries was honestly, a bit of a let-down! Despite all of the spooky happenings, the final resolution is wacky (even for #SweetValley!). Plus, Alice had been established as Eva‘s 15 year old babysitter & now she was suddenly 12… the climax on yet another #SweetValleyHalloween is certainly action-packed (more fire, a cemetery chase!) & Steven plays a hilariously heroic role again but I wanted better answers

Starting in 1955, this novel revolves around the titular character‘s life through a public breakdown & its aftermath. Margaret, a Shakespearean actress has redefined her life, but her past still plays a role, as her roles start to play within her life. The historical details are handled well, & as expected, a theatrical cast brings plenty of drama to this quick read. Margaret‘s the focus but I wanted more depth to the supporting roles.

Pickpick

In this 4th #SweetValleyTwinsSpringBreak, the twins are headed to live with a French family (they‘re in French, which was established in #46 that they weren‘t old enough for!). But a last minute change in plans has them looking for Madame du Noir, an older widow. Between Liz‘s latest Amanda Howard mystery & an article about missing blonde Americans that Jessica reads, they‘re terrified & go on the run in Paris! The whole fam comes to rescue them!

JenlovesJT47 I loved this one back in the day🤓🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🥖 1mo
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 This was a first time read for me! It was fun— though it seems hard to imagine now how laid back everyone seems about two 12 year olds missing in Paris for practically three days!! And it‘s always fun when they catch killers!! 1mo
JenlovesJT47 Oops I just saw this comment. Yeah, we really need to put together a list of all of the murderers these two have come across. Would be a long list! 4w

TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I know!!! Plus so far in the SVT series alone, we are up to 7 haunted houses/crumbling mansions with reputations… 3w
JenlovesJT47 7?! 🤣 3w
TorieStorieS And there are at least a few in the Kids books, too! Who would have suspected one town could have so many ghosts and neglected property, yet still be idyllic?? 3w

Ooops, sorry for the delay— I could have sworn I posted this last night, but obviously I was more tired than I thought! 😳
Though I really loved Brandon Sanderson‘s Skyward series in May, I am going with this thriller instead for the monthly #12BooksOf2024 because it really hooked me in (and it‘s too hard to pick just one from a series!🤣).

Thanks, @Andrew65 for organizing!

Andrew65 Sounds good. 1mo
