Todd‘s traded his Datsun in for a Yamaha 750 Virago, much to Elizabeth‘s horror. She hasn‘t mustered up the courage to confess that after her cousin Rexy Wakefield‘s death, none of them are allowed on one. Liz finds herself getting weirdly jealous any time another girl is on the back of the bike & Todd tries to talk Ned & Alice into it, but fails. In the first #SVH twin intuition instance, Jess realizes while at Miller‘s Point that Liz needs her!

Set in a small Mississippi town in 2000, this family drama includes a brief history of the Seven Seals church, sermon notes, & multiple perspectives— mainly of the First Lady of the church, Priscilla, & Diamond, the teenager wildly in love with the youngest son of Priscilla & the reverend, “Wonderboy.” Unfortunately, outside of the football field & classroom, he‘s anything but wonderful. Slowly his dark actions uproot his whole family. A lot here!

Set in 1980, Alice‘s life is entirely within the walls of her home. Mute, though she can speak through ASL & writing, her parents seem more like jailers. Now in her early 20s, Alice suspects that her traveling salesman father harbors the darkest of secrets. When a new neighbor moves in next door, Alice‘s world broadens & she eventually endeavors to learn the truth, as horrible as it is. The setting & era worked well, but the ending is sad!

Liz agrees to cover for Jessica‘s sneaking out on a Sunday for her first official date with the older, mustachioed Scott Daniels. Liz is worried that Jess will blow her test for the tour guide license that Monday. Jess at first has fun— flirting & teasing Scott (she yuckily takes being called jailbait a compliment though…) until he starts being more aggressive with her. He‘s too drunk & high to drive, so Jess is stuck out all night! ⬇️

TorieStorieS Liz valiantly rescues Jess by not only eating 2 breakfasts, she also takes the tourist test twice! She gets into a huge fight with Todd about it— telling him she‘d rather swim with Jaws than spend another minute with him! But the fight causes her to flunk Jessica‘s test! Jessica blows up at Liz, but in the end they make up! The weirdest is at the end with backstories for Bill Chase & Lila Fowler where they drop the bomb that George isn‘t her dad! 3d
JenlovesJT47 Mr. Pornstache himself! 😆 3d
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I know!! Plus I loved all the Jaws references! Though in the “extras” I certainly don‘t remember Lila ever overhearing her mother say George isn‘t Lila‘s real dad!! Shocking!! 3d
JenlovesJT47 I remember seeing that in that book but not any others! Nothing like a good retcon. 3d
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I know!! I doubt I ever actually bothered to read those the first time around since I already knew the characters… I wonder what other early editions had these? 3d

This is my first experience with Richell‘s writing— & she certainly has a gift for a twisty plot that kept me guessing. It opens after a Halloween party in the woods near a private high school, where one girl never makes it home. With multiple perspectives & plenty of suspicious characters, this makes for a quick & engaging read!

In this post-apocalyptic thriller, humanity exists only in fortified settlements to protect from the Feeders— those who were once human but are now more like vampires (if they are lucky) or mindless zombies (if they are less lucky). Solid world building as Layla makes a Crossing to the outside in search of antibiotics. Well-performed audio & genuinely engaging but I wanted a bit more depth to the characters— still a quick & exciting listen!

This is definitely one of the more memorable ones— & it covers more time than is usual. Though the twins only joined the school sorority Pi Beta Alpha in the first book, Jessica is now the president! Chubby Robin Wilson follows Jessica around adoringly & while Jess has no trouble using her to run her errands for her, she‘s horrified at the thought of the girl in the sorority. Liz intervenes & Robin makes it through the difficult pledge trials- ⬇️

TorieStorieS Only to be blackballed! She gets her revenge by losing weight & becoming co-captain of the cheerleading squad with Jessica. Robin gets her revenge on Bruce as well. But the best part is Lila‘s shoplifting phase that only Liz puts together & keeps secret! 6d
JenlovesJT47 Love the shirt! I‘ve always loved this cover. And poor Robin. She goes from chubby to having an eating disorder later. Francine was not kind to people who were not thin. And I thought that was normal back in the day so it probably attributed to some of my body image issues. 😌 Oh well! 5d
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 Thanks!! It‘s one of my favorite pajama shirts— from Society6! And yes, Francine was certainly a fat shamer! Even St. Liz is disgusted by the way Robin plows through candy bars! 🤣 And we learn Winston gets nervous around “people who eat too much”! But I think this was actually one of the first SVH books I ever read (it was my cousin‘s first so her name is inside— but I am not giving it back! 😬) 5d
JenlovesJT47 Lol my collection of books 1 through 60 something was my cousin‘s that she passed on to another cousin who passed them on to me. A couple of years ago they were inquiring about them. Sorrynotsorry, they‘re mine! 😇😬 And yes, how dare Robin eat candy bars, so disgusting 🙄. I always felt worse for Lois Waller. 5d
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 👯 Twinning again!! At least my cousin hasn‘t actually asked… though I don‘t think she liked these as much as me luckily! Lois is really done dirty in the SVT books, but so far in SVH she just has glasses (also a fate worse than death… or fatness…in Sweet Valley!)🤣 5d

I‘m a sucker for any story involving identical twins (obviously!) so this book set in a small Australian beach town reeled me right in. Cassie & Andie have spent the past decade knowing that they are actually from the future & that the titular character is not their birth mother at all. In the days before & after the twins‘ 21st birthday, truths big & small emerge forever changing their lives. Unique & moving, I thoroughly enjoyed this one!

JenlovesJT47 I‘m on my way to grab the audio! #twinning 👯 1w
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 Since I enjoyed it, I am pretty certain that you will too! 🥰 1w

TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I love to listen to Australian accents, too! My favorite audiobook performer is Caroline Lee— she‘s Australian and I have purchased numerous books just because she reads them! I love her voice! And The Last Guests is already on my TBR, hahahaha!! ❤️ And I even have it on audio!! Looks like I‘ll bump it up to the top of my list now! 🥳 1w

Though well-performed, this audio re-release after twenty years & the new popularity of SLOW HORSES just wasn‘t for me. Sarah leaps to some wild conclusions after a home in her neighborhood blows up, leaving only a young girl as a survivor. Sarah blows up her own life in trying to find the girl. The abrupt transitions & cast size did make me wish that I physically read this instead though I doubt that would have helped me connect with Sarah.

Jessica‘s long harbored a crush on wealthy & handsome Bruce Patman & she‘s more determined than ever to date him. He flirts with her at Secca Lake (even unties red bikini in front of everyone!), then make out in the bushes until Liz worriedly tracks them down. Jess loses herself with Bruce— from letting him beat her at tennis, changing her fashion sense & even skips cheerleading! When Liz schemes to reveal 1Bruce1 lied to her, Jess dumps him!

Soscha I still do want to go back & read these. I missed it the first time ‘round. 1w

TorieStorieS @Ladygodiva7 I am having so much fun with this #SweetValleyReRead! I started this project last year with the Kids series and am only (finally!) to the high school ones! It‘s been such a joy though! 1w
JenlovesJT47 I think I‘m going to have a mini marathon in the next week or two and see how fast I can get through the Kids and Twins series. I really can‘t wait to get to SVU and we should definitely buddy read when you get to that point. You‘re flying through! I read SVH slowly over 6-7 years. But I love these books. Been having such a hard time concentrating on reading lately and focusing on these for a bit might help. 5d
JenlovesJT47 And! I unashamedly adore the character of Bruce Patman, warts and all. He‘s an asshole who‘s pretty consistently an asshole with flashes of humanity here and there. My favorite Bruce is in the Death Valley miniseries. I read those two books over and over again, loved the adventure/danger aspect even though it made zero sense to me why they didn‘t have an adult with them. I‘m imaging my 16-year-old nephew hiking alone in Death Valley. Not pretty! 5d
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 Well, nothing ends a reading slump like Sweet Valley! I don‘t feel like I‘m flying through since I‘ve been at this for 18 months! But I‘m really enjoying it! And definitely up for an SVU buddy read if you give me time to get through SVH! Oh and the senior year ones!! Most of those will be new to me! 5d
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I am right with you on 1Bruce1 forever!! I love him… even though he‘s a real creeper in these early books! They soften him up and I always loved him in the secret diaries too!! Plus he‘s great in the SVU books, too! He gets to be poor!! 🤣 And definitely there‘s not much parenting or supervision in the series!! I don‘t want to think about any 16 year olds in any of these circumstances in real life!! 5d

The 4th book in the #FrankieElkinSeries harkens back quite a bit to the first with a more urban backdrop— this time Tucson— and deeply invested in the Afghani refugee community there. A friend of a missing young mother contacts Frankie to find a woman who no one seems to be looking for— not even her husband. With new reptile roommates & a fresh cast to provide assistance, this moves quickly but with a lot of background into her target‘s story.

The 3rd in the #FrankieElkinSeries trades the wilds of WY for an even more remote Hawaiian atoll. A death row inmate convinces Frankie to rescue her much younger sister as the perfect undercover person to infiltrate the island. It‘s not long before Frankie finds herself in over her head with secrets, betrayals & much less cuddly animal roommates (a wolf spider & a crab!). Lots of action, twists though there are some thin spots to some of the plan.

Wow—for as much as I didn‘t love the first book in the #FrankieElkinSeries, I sure did love this second one! Impulsively, nomadic citizen finder of missing persons, Frankie joins the search for Tim O‘Day who went into the WY Shoshone National Forest with his groomsmen for a bachelor party weekend & was the only one to not make it out, despite being the most experienced outdoorsman. 5 years later, they‘re hoping the SAR dog Daisy can bring closure.

Gardner‘s long been one of my favorite authors & now that she‘s 4 books deep into the #FrankieElkinSeries, I am excited to binge them! Unfortunately, this is probably my least favorite of her books… Frankie‘s a nomadic alcoholic who for 9 years has traded her addiction to booze for being a citizen detective finding missing persons— specializing in victims of color. Gardner addresses loosely the optics of a white savior complex, but not smoothly.

The Fall Dance is only 2 weeks away & Jessica‘s determined to win as Fall Queen, since it‘s a guarantee that Bruce Patman will be king. Enid‘s boyfriend, Ronnie Edwards, is on the dance committee so Jess can‘t help but share with him a letter she found in Liz‘s bedroom—from Enid‘s ex, George Warren! Enid‘s wild past (as a 13 year old?!) is revealed & Enid blames Liz for blabbing her secrets. For revenge, Liz gets Winston Egbert crowned king!

JenlovesJT47 Where did you find these shirts?! I have random stuff I‘ve collected. Jess and Liz dolls, a Sweet Life tote bag, a couple of different 250-piece puzzles. Haven‘t looked for anything in awhile. eBay is where I usually find stuff. 5d
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 A tote bag?? I‘m super jealous!! This sweatshirt is from TeePublic— and I love it! I don‘t have any puzzles either! How fun! I do have the board game somewhere in the basement though! And I have the dolls but Jessica lost an arm to mice I think… she‘s been recently rescued from my dad‘s basement and now resides armless with her sister in a safer place in my basement! 🤣 5d
JenlovesJT47 😅😅 well when my stuff was being held hostage I lost Liz the doll, who knows where she is. I can post a pic of my SV loot when I go home in a few days. I got the tote bag on eBay, it was some rare giveaway somewhere but I don‘t remember where 🤔. They have a lot of stuff on Etsy, too. Magnets and such. 🤓 And I definitely have the board game, my friend‘s grandma found it at a garage sale when we were in elementary school! 5d

TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I wish I could find the maps that came with the dolls! I was so sure that I had saved those! And definitely can‘t wait to see your Sweet Valley loot! I have had good luck on Etsy too— and I think I got my game at a used bookstore about 15 years ago! I made my husband and friend play it with me immediately but we haven‘t played since! 🤣 5d
JenlovesJT47 My dolls haven‘t been opened I don‘t think, I can check the Jessica doll to see if the map is still in there. I do have a map of Sweet Valley that came in my fan club box if you want to see it. Actually I think I have a pic of it on my phone. And that‘s so funny! I haven‘t played the game since my bff and I played when we were kids. 5d
JenlovesJT47 Actually, and forgive me if I‘ve shown you this before (I can‘t remember! 😳) but I sent pics of all my stuff to the snark valley blog owner years ago and she posted it, here‘s the link https://snarkvalley.wordpress.com/2017/11/30/sweet-valley-high-fan-club-the-orac... 5d
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I definitely played with mine so the mice aren‘t totally to blame… though I didn‘t chew off that arm! 🤣 I would love to see even more pictures and I‘m checking the link out now!! 5d
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 You had the stationery??? So cool!!! 5d
JenlovesJT47 I also had a pencil but I dunno what happened to it ☹️ I used the stationery when I was a kid but I have 2 or 3 sheets left. I also have a puzzle from the cover of Dangerous Love but I got it after these pics were taken. If you read her blog she is hilarious! She made that corn dog recipe from the Oracle and I remember making it once when I was a kid. Didn‘t turn out like we hoped 😆 5d
JenlovesJT47 2 pencils actually!! 😅🤓🤓🤓 5d
JenlovesJT47 Oops I just looked at the post, couldn‘t remember which puzzle was posted but the other one I have is of Jessica and A.J. Morgan. 5d
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 That recipe lost me at mustard water, hahaha, so I am just impressed you both actually tried it!! And AJ Morgan— I forgot about that redhead!! And pencils!! So cool!!! Now I have something to else to keep an eye out for on eBay! 5d
JenlovesJT47 I think there are at least two other puzzles but I can‘t remember what they are. I even put the two that I have together a few years ago and surprisingly all the pieces were there. 5d
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I will have to look for them!! So fun!! 5d

Chase‘s latest is another solidly entertaining dual timeline/dual perspective story. Siblings Maggie & Kit are especially close—though their small family certainly has more than its share of secrets. In 2019, a phone call from the past has put Maggie in a tailspin, leaving Paris to return to England. Kit, now in antiques, has also been searching through the past & his own fragmented memories of the time when their mother failed to come home.

See All 20 Comments
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I may actually be more excited to re-read the SVU books… I really loved them as a kid— well I am having fun so far with the SVH ones (I am a little behind on posting… ) and I forgot that Steven went to “State U” before Sweet Valley University existed, hahahaha! 3w
JenlovesJT47 Lol I forgot about that. It‘s in the original copy of Double Love but I have that and the reprint that‘s updated and I think I read the reprint when I did my reread. I also feel like early Steven in SVH is SO boring and his personality doesn‘t match up with the way it is in SVT. Early SVH Steven reminds me of a 30 year old guy who heads up a young republicans group or something 😅 3w
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I think he gets more himself in the later books? But yeah, he is super boring so far in these! 🤣 3w
JenlovesJT47 He‘s pretty boring up until he starts dating Cara. He‘s not great then either but imo he the best once we hit the books in the number 90s. He‘s the absolute best big brother in The Evil Twin, but I might be biased lol since that‘s my favorite. Still can‘t forgive Francine for retconning him to be gay, it makes absolutely no sense with his character. There were other more established characters that would have made more sense to go that direction⬇️ 3w
JenlovesJT47 With. Side note, no clue how I marked that as a spoiler, I didn‘t mean to 😅 Also, Aaron Dallas?! Make it make sense, Francine! 3w
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I know!! I am not looking forward to re-reading Sweet Valley Confidential! But I do remember enjoying the Sweet Life book after that… but they really did Steven wrong! And didn‘t they kill off Winston?? Anyways, I am going to have a hard time not reading more than one of these a day or so! I‘m having so much fun!! 3w
JenlovesJT47 They are so fun! And yes, they did kill off Winston 🤬 I hated SV Confidential but i unashamedly love the Sweet Life, it is hysterical 😅 and so fun! 3w
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I am glad to be ending on a good note then! But really excited for SVH, then the senior year books that will be new to me & re-reading SVU! I just am having so much fun!! 2w
JenlovesJT47 Oh I forgot you haven‘t read Senior Year!! I think you will love them, especially the first 12 books or so. They are more realistic and follow a linear timeline, AND they actually graduate in one year instead of 25 😅 2w
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I can‘t believe they graduate in a single year!! I did read the first few, I think originally— but I didn‘t make it very far into them… I remember they had little journal entries? I am still trying to get my hands on 45-Tia In The Middle, but I have the rest of them now! These junior high books were completely new to me— overall I liked them, but I wanted them to be more focused on the twins rather than the all new characters… 2w
JenlovesJT47 Yeah they do focus on the new characters a lot in senior year, too, but I liked them and Liz and Jess are front and center. They both improve, Liz coming down to earth and not being so self righteous, and Jess realizing how shallow she is and changing her ways. Plus I love Liz‘s love interest, Connor. The model on the cover is so hot and matches his personality imo. I like Liz so much more in these books. Hope you can find 45! At least it‘s on AA 2w
JenlovesJT47 I wonder why that one is so rare since it‘s not a special edition or anything 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2w
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 Yes, Saint Elizabeth can be a bit much! My husband is named Connor, so that will add to the fun of those, too!! And I have no idea why it‘s hard to find… but I am glad it‘s been added to the archive since I last looked! I should check and see if my missing Unicorn Club book has been added! In Love With Mandy is also rare for no apparent reason! 🤷‍♀️ 2w
JenlovesJT47 That‘s great! I went back a few months to see if they had added anything new and they added 3 new ones, so that‘s good that they‘re still adding them. I think I‘m only missing 3 from SY. 2w
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I know! I‘m glad they‘re adding them, as I feel like the used bookstores around me seem to have fewer and fewer of them on the shelves! But if you let me know which titles you need, I can keep an eye out! 2w
JenlovesJT47 Ok I‘m going to make a list this week of the ones I‘m missing and I‘ll let you know! Only missing 3 SVT books as well. Queen Janet and a couple of the last super editions. 2w
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 Sounds good! I have had some luck with the SVT books at the half price books closest to my house, actually! 2w

The pace is oddly slow & Red‘s spaciness drove me nuts!

I‘m not sure how this #TrueCrime book first came to my attention but it‘s impeccably researched with the author using her personal connections to the case to give a deeper perspective into Polly‘s case. Cross captures the terror of a young girl taken from a sleepover in her home—the mistreatment of the young witnesses as well as the investigation, & eventual legacy Polly has left behind in terms of laws, protocols & procedures. Sad but riveting.

In a recycled from #SweetValleyTwins plot, the #SVJH‘s history class assigns a time capsule assignment. Liz & her friends make a Sweet Valley Monopoly game while Jess & Bethel decide to make a documentary. But they need a camcorder, so Jess reluctantly calls Lila to ask for a favor. Coincidentally, Lila‘s new group of the Double Ees have been ditching her so she enjoys her old friendship dynamic with Jess. Oddly, Mrs. Pervis is replaced by Hester!

Well, unfortunately this last book in the #AGoodGirlsGuideToMurderSeries is one of those that the more I think about it, the less I like it. Sure, it is a pageturner that kept my attention throughout but I really hated seeing Pip‘s character completely devolve from being such a tenacious hero into, a vigilante unwilling to trust any authority figure or adult in her life. To go from upstanding citizen to complete lawbreaker felt out of character.

I‘ve been looking forward to reading this sequel for 5 years! And I couldn‘t put it down— I read it in practically one sitting! Opening up just a few months later, Pip‘s still in her final year of high school (though I‘ve switched from the US to the UK copies so she‘s not in Fairview anymore but Little Kilton!) when Connor‘s brother goes missing after the 6 year tribute for Andie & Sal. Pip doesn‘t want to investigate but can‘t refuse to help!

Bette I like Jackson too, but I love your shark! 🦈❤️🤭 3w

My #bookclub read this one for July & I was excited to re-read it—& binge read the rest of Jackson‘s books that have been on my TBR! As a reread, this holds up well! I love the multimedia angle here & honestly, hadn‘t remembered all the twists of the plot! Sure, some clues play out with a heavier hand than others but it‘s a fun #YAThriller & it was definitely well-liked by the whole club! Looking forward to the rest & for seeing the TV adaptation!

TEArificbooks My son‘s book club is reading this one. We are liking it and is very popular with the club. 4w

This novella prequel to #AGoodGirlsGuideToMurder is certainly a fast read! Connor‘s birthday dinner has a 1920s murder mystery theme (which made me nostalgic for my own 16th birthday party which was the same idea!) & as the clues emerge, Pip is certain she has it all solved! It‘s just a game that shows the motivation for Pip‘s capstone subject. Honestly, had I paid $1.99 for this on kindle, I wouldn‘t have been disappointed but $7.99 was too much!

Brian may have a nice guy reputation but he‘s feeling taken advantage of by his family & his girlfriend, Kristin, who casually blows him off twice in a row to hang out with Lacey. So, naturally, he gets a haircut & borrows cooler clothes from his older brother—& his upset inspires his band, Big Noise, to write a song perfect to debut at their first gig—an open mic night at the Manchester Club. Meanwhile, Liz is getting attention from Blue & Sal!

I actually have been looking forward to listening to this one for years! But maybe my hopes were just too high… it sounded like Addamsville, IN would be a creepy story, but I just needed a more grounded setting to find anything remotely scary. These “fire starters” needed more background & frankly, Zora‘s repetitive angst about feeling like the whole town hated her was so overdone that I started siding with the townsfolk! Wish I had DNF‘ed, truly!

Miranda‘s books are always engaging & fast-paced pageturners & this latest, while not my favorite, is no exception. Narrator Beckett dreads dropping her only daughter off at Wyatt college—not only because of an empty nest but also due to her own past with that college. Her senior year, 2 local men died & her roommate disappeared. When an alarming call comes in the middle of the night, Beckett drops everything to investigate, even summoning her ex!

Two events with plenty of build-up happen over the two weeks this installment covers— the student government planned Olympics & the performance of West Side Story. When Bianca, playing Maria, gets strep, Anna moves from playing Anita to Maria— meaning she gets to star with her real-life BF Toby as Tony! But short tempers lose their chemistry— luckily they get it together in time! Meanwhile, Lacey nearly loses it all for her team with her attitude!

I have listened to three of Khaw‘s earlier novels— she writes well & always has an intriguing premise. This latest is no exception, though despite the great performance, the cast size made me wish to have physically read this instead. There‘s plenty of action, but it‘s a bit light on explanations, making it hard to feel truly invested in the characters as they struggle to survive their own magical graduation. #AudioColoring

I‘ve been a fan of Miranda‘s for years & am excited to have two of her books to read this month! Here, Hazel returns to Mirror Lake, NC for her father‘s memorial service & the surprising revelation that she is the sole inheritor of his house, leaving nothing to either of his sons. Uneasy & unsettled by the house itself, Hazel starts poking at the past as a drought brings up its own watery secrets. Engaging & fast-paced, I couldn‘t put this down!

This one is more aptly titled “Pointless” as nothing actually happens! The Wakefield twins may be the center point, but the stories are lame… Elizabeth has writer‘s block & Blue offers to teach her to surf in a week so that she can enter a competition to write about it (Brian‘s plot from the last one) & Jessica tries to have Ronald hack into the computer to change the Olympics team to kick off Lacey…
But Liz doesn‘t learn & Lacey‘s on the team!

This book is a little silly, but I think it‘s one of my favorites of the year so far! It‘s a fantastic debut novel! It opens on Eugenie‘s 30th birthday & when her magical grandmother tells her that any wish she makes will come true, but cannot be reversed, who can blame Genie for not truly believing? The next morning, she wakes up to find her golden retriever is now a man! Enlisting the help of her neighbor (& crush!), Genie sets to righting Rory!

I‘ve really enjoyed this series— though I must admit, the 2020 setting of this third installment probably makes this my least favorite so far (the loaded setting just takes away from the entertainment of murders, hah!). Surrounding the treatment of mustangs in NV, deaths—one particularly grisly—takes place, putting Porter in position to solve them all. As usual, his sister Brinley steals every scene she‘s in & I‘m looking forward to the next book!

Kristen still feels uncertain about the new student government advisor, Ms. McGuire—& she really doesn‘t care for Bethel‘s idea to take the carnival proceeds into an #SVJH Olympics. She‘d rather they take a class trip, but no one else likes her idea. She contemplates quitting, but manages to gain her confidence back. Meanwhile, Blue teaches Brian to surf & learns his surfing compadres aren‘t quite as chill or kind as he‘d thought.Barely any twins!

Michallon‘s sophomore novel is just as compelling as her debut! With dual timelines, Frida & her brother‘s life unfolds with plenty of dark violence. Raised in a Hudson Valley cult until they were 18, years later more notoriety settled on Gabriel in the wake of his wife‘s death. After nearly a decade apart, the pair reunited to discuss participating in an upcoming documentary but while at their UT resort, a woman winds up murdered! Riveting!

What a completely gripping #audiobook! I found myself listening at every opportunity as the tension & menace mounts. With multiple narrators & performers, the high production quality adds to the book‘s strength. While the story revolves around a Hudson Valley serial killer, it‘s really the tale of the women around him. Chillingly tense, this debut makes me excited to dive into Michallon‘s next book! #AudioColoring

Somehow Anna is in the middle of another love triangle! This time with her drama club besties— Larissa & Toby. Toby used to have a crush on Larissa but now he only has eyes for Anna—who realizes she feels the same way. But Larissa keeps asking Anna to intervene to see who Toby “like likes”—so lots of junior high drama here but not much of the twins, unfortunately. Meanwhile, Kristen suffers from a crisis of confidence when her fav teacher leaves.

Three victims all within a few days & with a more firmly police procedural perspective, our favorite chief of police throws herself into the inverse, even endangering herself. A fast-paced & satisfying addition to the series— looking forward to the next murder!

This family drama centering around the Lowe women completely hooked me in from the very start. I didn‘t want to put it down at all—& I honestly, I don‘t care about soccer, but yet I found myself rooting for them. It‘s a compelling story of love & sacrifice spanning decades with multiple perspectives. All of the characters spring to life & while some of the non-soccer aspects seemed lacking in research, I really enjoyed this more than expected!

While I usually love a good Wakefield vs Wakefield book, this one starts with a pretty lame fight… the upstairs is being repainted on Calico Drive, so rather than stay in the den with her twin, Liz asks to spend the week at Anna‘s house. Hurt, Jessica lashes out & the pair make life miserable for all. Their friends scheme to help them make up, and eventually an interview on being a twin does the trick!
