This was a great read (excellent audio performance). Very little romance and no spice (if you‘re not really into that or like me, just need a little break from it 😄). I feel like if you like Tamora Pierce but want more complexity than the Lioness books, then this is for you.

This one is going really slowly. While I don‘t dislike it, the events and characters surrounding one MC are so similar to The Hunger Games that it is distracting. There is also the very obvious likeness to Shadow and Bone. It‘s not so much that the book is unoriginal, it‘s just so similar in some ways to others that that is all I can focus on. Anyone else read this one?

As much as I enjoy Hobb‘s writing, I feel like I‘ve taken an emotional beating every time I finish one. And the cliff hangers! The characters get such a hold on your heart. I love these books but I think I need a rom-com chaser or maybe a fantasy or sci-fi with a happy ending. 😄

The book was sweet, funny, and I enjoyed the glimpse into Chinese culture. Having lost a parent to disease two years ago, I could relate to the character‘s struggle with learning that her mom had cancer and what came after. It resonated despite my being ver different from the main character.

marie3blue I blurbed before that I heard about this book through the narrator, Natalie Naudus, on Instagram. It was a good audiobook read 🎧 I enjoyed Naudus‘ performance as well as the person who did the male lead‘s performance. 2y

I am of two minds on this book. On one side, I enjoyed the writing, I liked Nina, I enjoyed the small townish setting and the quirkiness that implies. On the other hand, conflict seemed resolved too easily and while I liked the love interest, he got on my nerves with his total lack of understanding even in the face of a full blown panic attack.

Penric and Desdemona being their lovable selves. Bujold writing an exciting and thoughtful story. I can always count on Bujold, especially in the World of the Five Gods.

Started my Spring Break by reading Penric‘s Demon. The first novella in this compilation. I have listened to Penric‘s Fox a while back so it was nice to get the beginning of the story. Love Bujold‘s worlds as usual.

Great warm and fuzzy read (though some of the writing especially at the beginning is a little cringy but not anything that turned me off of it). I enjoyed the characters and the development of their romance. Gets hotter than I expected. Between this, Julie James, and Eloisa James I‘m beginning to think I have a “type” of romance author and that type is highly educated 😄

Kind of a twilight zone/ fairy tale/ YA short story. Not exactly what I was expecting, but well worth the time it took to read.

I enjoyed the Harper series sent in this same world, and McCaffrey is classic so I picked this up for an easygoing nighttime read. I can see how this world and McCaffrey‘s style may have influenced some of the series I love now, but this book is not great in my opinion. The writing is much better in the Harper series.

Enjoying this one. On the look out for more romance (I‘m not opposed to steamy, but I‘m not into “erotica” 50 Shades types) and fun fantasy by non-white authors with non-white MCs. If you have any great recommendations, let me know.

Tera0707 I‘m reading Queen Move by Kennedy Ryan. I‘m not too far in, but so far I‘m enjoying it ☺️ I also really like Alyssa Cole and her Reluctant Royals series 4y
Mrs_B I‘m reading this one at the minute - it‘s a cute romance so far! @Tera0707 4y
marie3blue Thanks for the recommendations 😊 I‘ve seen a lot of mentions of “Queen Move”. Think I‘ll add that one to my list of books to pick up next time I visit the bookstore. 4y

tokorowilliamwallace I don't usually eat breakfast, but when I do it's oatmeal with cottage cheese. You're making me want to look out for this author at the resale charity shop. I need more classic 80s/90s fantasy. 2y
marie3blue Bujold is fantastic. This one is well into her Vorkosigan series which is science fiction but I also highly recommend her World of the Five Gods books, which is fantasy. Vorkosigan begins with “Shards of Honor” 2y

One of the benefits of your baby refusing to nap in her crib, is lots of forced downtime on the weekends for reading in bed or in the arm chair in her room. I think it‘s a good thing, as I work so hard all week and since my work (teaching 21+ elementary students) tends to seep over into family time. Currently reading this dark fantasy by one of my favorite authors.
