I really loved this book! I listened to the audiobook from the library because the eArc has been on my shelf for for over 3 years. This is the story of Vanessa, her two sisters, her sick mom and her dad. It's about controversial cancer treatments in Mexico, about first loves, about discovering there are worst illnesses than cancer, and about the struggle to separate and chase our dreams. A very interesting book to read after Darling Rose Gold.

ChaoticMissAdventures I have such mixed feelings when I have had a book for years and finally get to it and love it. First I am WHY did it take me so long, then also thank you past self for looking out for me and my present reading self! 6d

And here's my #WeeklyForecast!

I'm almost done with Call Me God and Wayside School is a pretty fast eArc read, so I'll finish both soon. The rest are kind of up in the air. I want to get to Don't Read the Comments bc Eric is coming to the store soon, and the rest are audiobooks, but I'll be at Winter Institute most of the coming week, so I don't know how much reading time I'll get (even though WI is a booksellers/publishing conference, lol).

The indie bookseller in me has a love hate relationship with Amazon's Audible, but the audiobook loving nerd in me is really enjoying some of their original audiobooks. I just hate that they've got the monopoly on some authors. And that's a short post made long to say that I'm digging this book!

ljuliel This book was SO interesting. I‘m not usually that “WOW‘d by their originals, but this was really good. If you‘re interested, they recently started a podcast about the same subject. It‘s called Monster DC Sniper. 1w
DanaAnne Got to see the author and some FBI agents speak here in DC on this podcast. Was incredible. Such an interesting investigation! 1w
LauraJ I‘m not happy about that either. Keeps the audiobooks from being available at the library and I prefer to use Libro.fm so my local indie gets a cut. 1w

Julia Whelan has been one of my favorite audio narrators for years, so I was pretty excited to read a book she both narrates and wrote! I found this book thanks to you, Littens, so I was prepared to have it break my heart, which it did, but in a good way. I liked that the ending isn't really an ending, it's just a beautiful snapshot of a year in a life.

I read a lot of thrillers, but not a lot of romantic suspense, which is probably what category this book falls under. It's the fourth in a series, but they aren't particularly connected so it won't hurt to read out of order. I liked the book, although I figured out a major twist from the get go.

This book wrecked me, but did that stop me from immediately re-reading it when I finished it? No, no it did not. But the story of a girl accidentally causing the death of her bestie, and then falling for the brother of bestie, just deliciously destroyed me.

Day 5 of the #30DayBookChallenge is a Favorite classic book. I struggled a bit with this question, because there's ones I love, but when I think of favorite, I think of something that I can always pick up and read. Super funny comics that are also super true! Like if you're going to dog ear a book, there's a proper way to do it that doesn't involve folding any of the page that has text on it. Or how reading a book should basically signal to others that you are not really with them. Or how it's just smarter to buy multiple copies to lend. The reading quirks are hilarious, endearing, frustrating (to non-readers) and recognizable to readers everywhere.

I'd really like to get through some of my audio TBR books- I have a lot! From years of Audible credits and daily deals, to all the audiobooks I get through my bookseller Libro account, it's A LOT. Just posting them on here in a visual form as a reminder in 2020. First 40. #tbr #Audiobooks

TheSpineView That's awesome! I am so glad to see I am not the only one with lots of unread audiobooks. 💜📚💜 3w
MidnightBookGirl @TheSpineView, it's a little embarrassing! But I have whittled the Audible one down to 116, which feels pretty manageable. My Libro is out of control, and will most likely stay that way because I get new titles every month, and I like to get a bunch “just in case“. I totally justify this because I'm a bookseller, so I NEED all the books, right? LOL 3w

MidnightBookGirl @Cupcake12 Audiobooks aren't for everyone! I've listened to them since I was a kid, so it's second nature to me by now. I usually tell customers at the bookstore to start with a book they already know and like for their first audiobook experience- the Harry Potter series or Trevor Noah's Born a Crime for example. It's kind of like building a muscle! 3w
mom2bugnbee @Cupcake12 I have to pick & choose what I listen to on audio, b/c I often get distracted. Memoirs on audio work for me if they're read by the author. I also listen to books read by actors whom I particularly love because I know I'll pay attention to their voice. 3w

While the ending is a little abrupt, I was pretty drawn into this memoir of growing up in the LeBaron Mormon cult in Mexico. It was enraging at times (okay, maybe most of the time?), deeply saddening most of the time, and slightly hopeful because Ruth was able to get out and help save her surviving siblings. Read for #bookclub. Book 4 of the year. #audibook.

vkois88 I read this one recently too! It was indeed very heartbreaking 98% of the time, but her story of survival was so hopeful to so many others in the same situation. I surely don‘t think I could have made through any of it the way she did! 3w
