Loved it! It‘s dark, with an excellent magic system, lots of twists, and it‘s stabby. A great beginning to the trilogy.

I am oh so unimpressed by this book even at 5%. I‘ve lost count how many times Mare has called herself “the lightning girl”. Want to DNF, but I‘m feeling stubborn. 🙃

Finished #MrMercedes today and I think it‘s ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Wildly inaccurate in many places, but entertaining and twisted!

Next #2018debut also happens to be an #ApparatingLibrary #BookClub book - THE POPPY WAR is a fantasy world where the brightest of the bright are trained in the military and although Rin has been taught to eradicate weakness, she plans to embrace her country‘s vice and stop all wars.

The description of this one and the (apparent?) promotion of opium makes me a little nervous , but so far it‘s REALLY good.

💔The characters are so flat.
💔A bunch of scenes end with characters passing out. That‘s just sloppy.
💔 There were potential plot points in a plague, racism, or an underground rebellion, but the author chose to run with a super uninteresting love story? NO WHY STOP.
💔 Too much telling, not enough showing.
❤️ I mean, the cover is pretty so it has that going for it?

This has a lot of potential but the three POV characters felt really flat to me. Plot progression felt a bit unnatural. But really great ideas!

This is one enticing dark fantasy world. I wish there was more to the characters, and a bit stronger plot, but the WORLDBUILDING, y‘all! A+. Pretty decent, especially for a debut.

I LOVED it!!! It‘s a great AI-driven dystopia with fun characters of all shapes and shades and an interesting world. Not to mention the fact that it‘s an Anastasia retelling/continuation (which nobody is talking about?! Am I the only one who picked this up?!). I‘m dropping a full review on my blog (bio) on the 21st, but in the meanwhile, I definitely recommend this one.

The School for Good and Evil was my 52nd book this year, meeting my original Goodreads challenge! Time to up the ante...

This was a bit problematic for me in places, but darn it all, I did like the world and the concept. It‘s quite shallow most of the time and the gender role restrictions drive me crazy. I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️ personally, BUT I‘d still recommend it. Because it was the right amount of magical and fun.

It was okay to be afraid. You just couldn‘t let that fear stop you.

Finished this #audiobook yesterday morning and genuinely thought it was subpar and whiny and predictable. BUT. I can‘t stop thinking about it! A few scattered moments keep repeating in my head and the names of the places, too. It‘s weird.
