I can't stop thinking about this book. It's intense, dark and unexpected. It takes place during 1991/1992 and one of the characters is obsessed with Nirvana and the descriptions we're so vivid that I had to listen to Nirvana while reading this book!

EllanaRose Aww that's set when I was learning how to read! 6y

Invisible Life: A Novel | E. Lynn Harris

This book follows a young bisexual man through adolescence and adulthood and how he navigates life and various relationships. I am happy that we have made progress with societal acceptance of LGBTQ+ people, but it is still a pretty relevant read at times.

Wow. Sonali Deraniyagala has been through the unthinkable and still has grace and perspective. Her pain comes through so clearly and so does her intelligence and wisdom.

Really beautiful and heartbreaking read. It spans decades and families. Great examination of different types of love. I was hysterically crying for the last few pages.

DGRachel She writes so beautifully. I‘ve just started my first book by her, but something tells me it won‘t be my last 6y

Don't be fooled by the fun cover - this is a deep and devastating novel. It follows a family (mother and two daughters) living in Jamaica and the ways they compromise themselves and each other.

Charming and quick read! The flashbacks were vivid and fun. Haig is clearly a history buff and has a great appreciation for it. The end felt a little rushed, but a nice read otherwise.

Mediocre writing, mostly two dimensional characters, but the plot had some good twists and turns.

As always, Older's writing is vibrant and his world is so real. I didn't love this one as much as the other two in the series - not sure if it was the characters he chose as POV or what.

Wonderful, beautiful, heartbreaking and pretty steamy. It really captures how people can change your life.

Armie Hammer's voice is pure sex and passion. Highly recommend on audio.

Compelling book about home and identity. It also included the social aspects of colonialism and war. Some of the strongest parts of the book included the perpetual trauma people face and how they react based on proximity (seeing the destruction of their home versus seeing war and poverty across Africa on the news).

This should be mandatory reading. The erasure of women, specifically black women, from history is terrible and needs to be fixed. This book had a great balance of social and political context as well as the technology advancements and personal stories of the women. I am in awe of these women!

Santino. Fontana's. Voice. I think this book should only be done on audio because it is so creepy, but Fontana is so disarming as Joe. I loved the bookish and New York aspects. It truly frightened me even as it was pretty fantastical at some points.

What an incredible sequel. Does not disappoint. I am so excited to read the next one and so sad that it's the last one. N.K. Jemisin's world building is phenomenal. It is so clear, accessible and wonderful. I also love the characters a lot.

This book is chock full. Great characters. Impeccable world building - it feels familiar to out world in a lot of ways while still being entirely its own. I loved the differences in writing style across the narrations (the second person narrative in particular, since that is more difficult to pull off). I can't wait to read the rest of the series!!
