This book was so good,read it almost in one sitting. Felt that I was on the river and would close the book and felt wiped out. Great writing, great story. Highly recommend. Reading a real book let's me use the bookmark made for my daughter's shower...extra fun! Enjoy the rainy day if you're in the northeast!

Ok, this book has been sitting on my shelf for ages! Vowing to read more real books and fewer e-books, as I have a gazillion... this book is amazing about the author's Irish Catholic upbringing, devastating and funny at once, no wonder it won all the awards... now if Della would let me finish...

Loved this book about a man who is devastated after the untimely death of his wife and the relationship he develops with a 9-year old girl and her mom, that helps save them all. Crack in the windshield 10 minutes ago! Arghh! Thought I would catch up on book posts. This one continues the theme of unreliable narrators. A mystery where the chapters varying between a diary, present time ( she's in a coma, first page) and time leading up to the accident. Ok and a fast read, but think I am done with this kind of book for now. Wish me luck at the glass store!

Really excellent mystery, second in the Aaron Falk series, about a corporate retreat gone wrong. five women go onto the woods in the Australian outback, 4 come out. Great rainy day read. Pic is from my walk yesterday on a NH dirt road, simply beautiful! Ok, back to reading, enjoy the day littens!

Pic of my recent trip to Shanghai, loved it so was looking forward to the book. Recommend with reservations. The information was amazing and the author really got you into Shanghai during the crazy times of the late 30s, a really interesting time. However, sometimes almost too much detail that detracted from the story and his writing was how I imagine Jimmy Cagney would write ( you all aren't too young for that reference, are you?) you are warned.

Golf is definitely cutting into my reading time, but Vermont courses are so pretty! Loved this book! Finished in 2 days....nice mystery, start of a new series. I really enjoyed the writing and the characters and plot! All around a great read anytime! Really enjoyed the setting of Ireland and all the language of a different country.....ok, go now....read it....you'll thank me.....

Really enjoyed this totally different book, not sure how to categorize it, though, sort of a mystery, life exploration? Centers around the obsessive collecting of old blues recordings. Nicely written. If you're in the mood for something a little weird, this is it!

In the 3 gorges as I write, words cannot describe how amazing it is! Finished Smaller and Smaller Circles last night and really enjoyed it. Murder mystery set in the Philippines with a Jesuit priest as the protagonist. Interesting social issues described and good story. Debut novel and I look forward to reading more from this author!

Still in China! Loved terracotta warriors! Tangerine, not so much. Loved the writing and the way the author made me feel like I was in Tangier, tone reminded me of Rebecca. But the story was straight out of a movie I saw once, won't say which one... don't want to spoil the ending, but I felt this one did not totally live up to the hype. Would love to hear your thoughts and what movie I'm referring to.. pm , of course!

Made it to China! Great Wall today...amazing! As was the book I read on our 14 hour flight! Nicely written story about a family, a marriage, and life. My first Maggie O'Farrell, will read more!

In Newark airport awaiting our flight to Beijing, almost done with the book and many books downloaded to read while I'm there! Cruising the Yangtze and the book has been a great introduction. Might be a little dated in some respect, written 20 years ago, but interesting history I'm sure will enhance my visit! Wish me luck!

I really enjoyed this convoluted thriller about a secret agent's attempt to stop a radicalized fanatic from destroying the US. It is the first novel for the author and sounds like he will be continuing the character in future books. Downside is that it is really long, slightly over 600 pages. Must admit I stopped and read other books in between. But worth a read, and look forward to more by this author.

Attempting to review all my books this year...this one was OK. Seems to be receiving a lot of fanfare. Writing fair, plot, pretty predictable, main character, kind of annoying. Quick read, though and you can skim through it without missing a lot. Kind of Girl on the Train meets Rear Window, if that's your cup of tea, go for it, but don't say I didn't warn you😀

The hype over this one is well deserved! Awesome book! Don't let the slow start stop you from finishing this one about the effect a mom and her daughter have on a family, so much to talk about, so much to enjoy. Ok, have stopped crying and can tell you what a great book this is! Starr is a 16 year old black teen who witnesses her male friend killed by the police. The story ensues from there and is a fast but great read. I would like to believe this has made me a more understanding and compassionate person to people whose lives are completely different from mine. I suspect that is the point. Read it, you need to.

I really enjoyed this book, I liked it much better than the author's previous novel. It's about a sort of Monica Lewinsky-like story told from different perspectives. Nicely done. A good, quick read for these cold days of winter, even in southwest Florida!

Loved this book! Really insightful regarding what it takes to keep a relationship going, great book to give and to read no matter whether you are dating, newly married or have been for years. My daughter got married last week and loved it, too!

Really enjoyed this fast paced, relatively short non-fiction book about arsonists in Accomack, Virginia in 2012. The author did a nice job with providing ancillary history about the Eastern shore in VA, definition of arsonist, etc. if you enjoy books by Erik Larsen, you will enjoy American Fire!

Ok, littens, must admit that my volunteering at the book sale sorting session isn't entirely altruistic, I get first dibs! Where should I start??

I wanted to love this book. It definitely had potential. I did enjoy the writing, although sometimes the vagueness of the author's descriptions of people was annoying. The observations of the main character were interesting, but she was a little frustrating, she would be a tough friend or significant other. On the positive side, finished it in a day!

I will not be traveling to the Amazon anytime soon....or not soon....yikes! Really enjoying reading this, though....

Reading like crazy lately, NH summer and retirement, a good combo! Really enjoyed this book, very quick read. The tone is set in the first few pages and you are along for the ride. Interesting plot and characters, enjoy!

I love this series and Winspear's latest installment did not disappoint. Maisie is a former nurse in WW1 who becomes a private investigator. The murder mysteries revolve around the war, now heading into WW2. The characters are beautifully written and their stories progress over time as well. The books are stand alone, but starting at the beginning will give you a greater appreciation of them all. Highly recommend!

Really had high hopes for this book, way too long, parts of the story I just didn't care about and felt that the storyline was uneven. Stayed with it and the ending was pretty good but, honestly, not enough to justify the long, slow read.

Reading on vacation, #lovingportugal, found the book in my air B and B, quick read, new author for me, good characters, story ok, ultimately not great, but perfect for after sightseeing. Pic above from Sintra, outside of Lisbon...highly recommend Portugal!

Loved Americanna, so picked this up, she is such an amazing writer, loved this, too. Told from the perspective of a 15- year old teenage girl in Nigeria whose very Catholic father is not all he seems, heartbreaking.

Read this in a day, nicely written, interesting story. Takes place in the mid-1800s, about an older man who is charged with getting a 10 year old girl back to her relatives after being kidnapped 4 years earlier by Indians. Quick read, reminded me a bit of Lonesome Dove, but not as long. Enjoy and Happy Easter!

So, downside, this book was long, over 500 pages. Upside, nicely written, good story, kind of creepy, but in a good way....plot, school shooting, only survivor accused of abetting the shooter, her boyfriend. Book is told from her perspective. Lots of teenage angst and thought process which really made you think about what it is like to be young and first love. Recommended

I really enjoyed this book about the life of a Russian count who lives in a hotel after his house arrest at the time of the Russian Revolution. The story was great, interspersed with the history and the writing was lovely. Great ending, which solidifies a good book for me!

I loved this book! Satirical, thoughtful, great characters. My only complaint would be a little long, but the ending was awesome and well worth the length!

Heard about this book, I think, on #allthebooks, excellent mystery. Apparently a famous author in Japan, is compared to Patterson, Baldacci, etc. lots of twists and turns and a satisfying conclusion.

Can a 57 year old white woman love a YA novel about a Latina teen being bullied in her new HS and love it? You betcha! The writing is smart, funny and insightful. Reviewed on BookRiot's podcast, All The Books, and then was a " deal of the day" the next day! Lucky me! Enjoy!

Beautifully written, disturbing in so many ways, this novel is so worth reading.

Whew...reading like a maniac to finish this book before I have to go out tonight....so good.....the town is isolated and quarantined after an international bad guy is on the loose...the heat of the summertime, the boredom of the residents and increasing stress of it all make for an excellent read.

Ok, really looked forward to reading this, it was OK. I'm so confused as to how some books make it big, and other, better books, slip away, unseen, unread....except for the littens! ( thanks for the word, Liberty!)....

Really enjoyed The Summer Guest. A really good story of family, life choices and how those all play out. Set in northern Maine, so place is integral to the story. so many books, when will I knit, sew, cook...(why, yes, I am turning into a 50s housewife)?

This book was amazing! Why don't more people know about it? I heard about it on "all the books" and my husband and I both read it and loved it. The writing is beautiful and the story has plenty of twists and turns that provide reading satisfaction. It reminds me a little bit of "special topics in calamity physics". If you loved one you will love the other.

Why have I never read her before? Her writing is amazing!
