The Copper Promise (complete novel)
The Copper Promise (complete novel) | Jen Williams
13 posts | 12 read | 42 to read
There are some tall stories about the caverns beneath the Citadel - about magic and mages and monsters and gods. Wydrin of Crosshaven has heard them all, but she's spent long enough trawling caverns and taverns with her companion Sir Sebastian to learn that there's no money to be made in chasing rumours. But then a crippled nobleman with a dead man's name offers them a job: exploring the Citadel's darkest depths. It sounds like just another quest with gold and adventure ... if they're lucky, they might even have a tale of their own to tell once it's over. These reckless adventurers will soon learn that sometimes there is truth in rumour. Sometimes a story can save your life.

It seems that this book spent the first half describing a setting that my mind was just unable to grasp. Whether it only be myself or not I felt like the storyline dragged out for the first 2/3 of the book and then once I was able to desipher what was going on the story became really good and then ended. I'm still quite bewildered in all honesty.

Oh, man, that was slooooooooow. The characters were great, the antagonist promising. But the world was more than a little confusing at times, and while the plot was interesting, it just took freaking FOREVER. The writing was good, though, with witty dialogue and some lovely descriptions. So I wouldn‘t give a definite no to reading the sequel but...I‘m not necessarily chomping at the bit either. 3rd for #24in48! ★★★☆☆

April #bookstats:
I cheated with lots of graphic novels, but my page count stayed above my goal 👍
Not all in the photo above, but the numbers and accomplishments are...
15 books read
3,175 pages

#MountTBR challenge = only 3 😕
#sirensreadingchallenge = 3
ebook = 1! (I suck with ebooks!)
Library book = 1! (I never not buy books!)

#bestofApril = Copper Promise

Next goal includes trying to track in a bullet journal with at least a colored pen 😆

Kalalalatja Haha love your goal! 😂 7y
elkeOriginal @Kalalalatja 😁I am inspired by the journal pages of folks like @LectricSheep! But I have no drawing talent - I maybe can manage some multicolor pens. Maybe 😕 7y
aeeklund @elkeo Aaaaaaaaaand now we have bullet journaling in common, too. 7y

Such an awesome 500+ page heroic/epic fantasy. Dragons! Mages! Swordplay! Cranky old gods wreaking havoc! The world is fantastic and well-built without over explaining - though I would have loved a map! Loved the characters & story & pace from top to bottom and have books 2&3 on my TBR shelf already because I could tell early on I wanted to hang out here as much as possible. Top notch read for those who dig this genre 🙋🏼

This is no slow starter - I began this casually and was so engrossed from the very beginning that 100 pages later I looked up surprised to see it was dark outside and I had lost time 😁
Call out to @thec0zy for pointing this out on the #sirensreadingchallenge list because...DRAGONS. Thanks for the tip!
