Almost Interesting
Almost Interesting | David Spade
A hilarious and biting memoir from the actor, comedian and Saturday Night Live alumni David Spade. David Spade is best known for his harsh Hollywood Minute Sketches on SNL, his starring roles in movies like Joe Dirt and Tommy Boy, and his seven-year stint as Dennis Finch on the series Just Shoot Me. Now, with a wit as dry as the weather in his home state of Arizona, the comic brat extraordinaire tells his story in Almost Interesting. First Taking fans back to his childhood as a wannabe cool younger brother and recounting his excruciating road-tour to famewhen he was regularly mistaken for a ten year-old, Spade then dishes about his time crisscrossing the country as a comedian, for low-paying gigs and dragging along his mothers old suitcase full of props. He also covers his years on SNL during the beloved Rock/Sandler/Farley era of the 1990s, including his close working relationship and friendship with Chris Farley and brags about the ridiculous perks that fame has brought into his life, including the constant fear of being fired, a crazy ex-assistant who attacked him while he was sleeping, a run-in with Eddie Murphy on the mean streets of Beverly Hills, and of course an endless supply of hot chicks. Sometimes dirty, always funny, and as sharp as a tack, Almost Interesting reminds you why David Spade is one of our generations favorite funny guys.

😂😂😂😂😂

I‘m certain this might offend someone as he‘s old school so beware.

Audio version is HIGHLY recommended. It made me miss Chris Farley. Kate Spade was his sister-in-law? 🤯

Dry sarcastic sense of humor. A memoir from childhood to present day.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Twainy This was a Libby loan & is $6 on Audible this week! 4y

I‘ve loved David Spade since his younger days with Chris Farley. I have always found the two of them to be absolutely hilarious. So this memoir works for me. It‘s not quite as funny as his original memoir (tagged ⬆️), which I found to be exceptional. And I would say that some of what he says is borderline offensive. I like that he doesn‘t hide who he is in that sense, but it could be off putting to others.

britt_brooke I need to check this out and his first one. Thanks for the reminder! 4y

I think it‘s safe to say my reading slump is over. 🥳🥳

I‘ve finished the top five books this past week. The Spade and FHB were especially fantastic—both 5 star reads. The bottom row are the books I‘m currently reading. #bookreport #classicschallenge2020

This is a stellar exploration of people from his generation. Coming from the generation after his, I kind of identify with it a bit, but there's some parts that I disagree with his assessment, but overall this is classic Spade. The Matt Foley voicemail on here is legendary and it killed me to hear that even though it's been 22 years since he passed.

RadicalReader @Ash.on.the.line I loved this novel David Spade reading the audiobook version makes it the best audiobook I have listened to this year laughing out loud while listening as is an always emotion with Delightful David Spade 6y
Ash.on.the.line @RadicalReader yes I felt the same way. I love his self deprecating humor along with a bit of emotional story telling! 💜 6y
RadicalReader @Ash.on.the.line I loved that with the crayon segment of him only having four colors and a girl asking for a burnt Sienna and he‘s looking through his four pack stalling then another classmate breaks out the 96 pack with a built in sharper and practically a canopy covering “ I have a burnt sienna!” 6y
Ash.on.the.line @RadicalReader omg yes! 😂 I want to reread it already. I really want his new book too. 6y

I‘ve just read a few too many ehh books, It‘s been awhile since I‘ve had a memoir, and I love David Spade and his comedy! He also has his second book either out or out soon! Soooo, I‘m reading this! Possibly going to use the audio, narrated by himself, while doing some work!
Self deprecating humor is my fave and is Spade‘s specialty!

VeganCleopatra I wasn't expecting to enjoy this one but I did. I recommend the audiobook. 6y

Iamlisa22 @RadicalReader ... right! I don‘t always love “reading” autobiography but I have found I love listening to them! The last one I did was Bruce Springsteen‘s ...it was so much more interesting listening to him tell his story 6y

David Spade makes me laugh and I've been a fan for a long time but it wasn't until I read this that I learned his brother and sister-in-law are Kate Spade, Inc. What a family!!

RadicalReader @Reita325 never would have thought they were related through marriage at all guess I figured Spade to be a common last name so never would have imagined them to be related but they certainly did well marrying into the Spade Family 6y
Reita325 I read and wrote this before Kate Spade‘s suicide. I watched him give an interview after the fact and he was obviously close with his brother and Kate. I felt so sorry for him...his destiny has had such sadness-Chris Farley, his assistant who tried to kill him and now his sister-in-law killing herself. It makes one wonder how lucky and unlucky one person can be. 6y

If you are interested in reading this book, then I definitely recommend the audio book version of Spade reading it himself. I do not think I would have enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed hearing it all from him. It's much like constantly listening to his stand up for the most part. Very funny. Recommend for any David Spade fan.

RadicalReader @Kenziejo absolutely an endlessly entertaining novel I loved listening to the crayon scenario and how School pictures were arranged 😂😂😂😂🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 6y
BookKenz @RadicalReader The crayon scenario is my favorite. 😂😂😂 6y
