This was a mediocre book. I didn‘t really have any strong opinions on it. It was a cute book, but not very memorable. I do think that it was weird that it was cowritten by Stan Lee, who was white, and the main character‘s name is Steven Lee who is Chinese. 4⭐️

Has anyone read this? Is it okay for a six grader, in terms of graphic violence, etc.? I was going to read it before handing it over, but the boy is getting impatient waiting on me.

Help! My 5th grade son reads at high school level (but not YA themes) and I'm out of book ideas. Bday coming up and need suggestions. He tore through Rick Riordan's books and gave me the last of his cash to get these Zodiac books. This is the kid I caught reading HP by his nightlight the first week of 1st grade. He loves book series like the above. (And he plays Viola and guitar.). I'd love your suggestions!

Sarahr875 Has he read the Fablehaven series? They're so fun. We also discovered The Invention of Hugo Cabret and The Marvels by Brian Selznick. They're not high school level but they're amazing and definitely worth checking out. 8y
merelybookish Have you tried the His Dark Materials series by Phillip Pullman? 8y

Lmstraubie Has he tried this one? It's not HS level, but is filled with adventure and humor. It is also a series so if he likes it there are more. 8y
Bookworm83 This is too much fun! I teach advanced 6th graders, so I'm always trying to find age-appropriate book series for them. 8y

christineandbooks What about the Redwall books by Brian Jaques? The Narnia books. You could also go classic with things like Treasure Island and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. 8y
christineandbooks Also if you don't mind a bit less literary merit, there are the Warriors books. My "advanced reader" 9 year old has read and loved those...there are a ton of them...author is Erin Hunter (actually they are written by a team of writers). 8y
Reviewsbylola He is so cute. I have no suggestions unfortunately! 8y
Texreader @AmandaL He just discovered it today and seems to love it. Thanks! 8y
Texreader @Reviewsbylola You are so sweet. Thanks!! 8y
Texreader @christineandbooks These books look so good to me but haven't stricken a cord yet. I don't know why. 8y

This was such a fun read! Even though it was aimed at younger readers, I thought it was great. I absolutely loved the storyline and the illustrations were a beautiful addition. The characters were wonderful. Their development was a bit short, but effective. Their superpowers were fun to discover and I really enjoyed seeing them learn how to use their skills. I can't wait for book two!
