I am very aware that I am not the intended audience for this. I didn't read it as a kid, so there isn't that nostalgia for me. My older brother LOVES this series and I really just read it because I love him.

This one is actually more so-so, but I graded it on a curve because my students like it. I couldn't quite get past a 12-year-old boy named after a Greek goddess. I can't figure out what his parents (and grandparents) were thinking. Did they just not want to name him Apollo? I mean, Artemis the goddess is awesome, but it seems a bold statement to give the name to your son. The fairy stuff is cool, though, and I love the kleptomaniac dwarf.
I really enjoyed the beginning of the story, but toward the end, it started to lose me. It was entertaining, but not something I absolutely loved. I will probably continue the series just to see what else happens, but I'm expecting them to be just okay reads for me.
This was a nostalgic reread. I don‘t do those often, but I needed something fun, fast, and full of sparkling magic. A villainous child MC is a cherry on top. It lost nothing of its luster on the second read.
It‘s so sad this one didn‘t get a decent adaptation. (Let‘s pretend the THING Disney made doesn‘t exist, okay?) It‘s simply asking for it. Well, maybe someday—in life, one needs hope.
4/5
Totally blown away. I liked this a lot more than I expected. Super fast-paced & intriguing with great characters & a fun storyline. Hilarious banter. Highly entertaining. A perfect middle grade read for adventure seekers who love whimsical fantasy. A well-crafted story that is fun from start to finish. Super excited to see where the series goes. This was one of those books that I wish was about twice as long because I couldn't get enough.
Artemis Fowl is a series of fantasy novels that follows a girl who finds an alternate word below ground with magical fairies and more. The series encompasses speculative fiction as it has unrealistic details and magical elements.
I‘m rereading this fun book and making some notes with plans to read it with a new group of 6th graders this fall.

Thanks for the tag @WJCintron ☺️
1. I don't know that I've read many to be honest, but I have liked the ones I've come across
2. The Artemis Fowl books were a favorite of mine when I was younger
Tagging anyone who hasn't played yet and wishes to 💕✨
On today‘s episode of my book podcast, the conversation about Artemis Fowl covers fairy lore, antiheroes, bathroom humor, racism in fantasy, office politics, law enforcement in literature, boy geniuses, and Santa Claus. Does the book hold up to my memories of it from childhood? Listen at the link in my bio to find out! ✨

We listened to approximately 30 minutes. I quite enjoyed but Beatrix could not follow what was happening. We tried listening to the first 10 minutes again today she still did not know what was happening. So we bailed and started Doctor Dolittle, which was a resounding success. Polly read this a few years ago and enjoyed it but it is a bit beyond my well-read 6 year old‘s comprehension.
Had to DNF. Felt like I was going 3-5 steps forward, then pushed back 10 steps for details that really didn't need to be there.
May try again in the future. But DNF for right now.
Artemis, a young boy, wanting to gain control of his family‘s business again, decides to capture a fairy.
I got this book many years ago for a birthday present and I loved it. It is a good JF story. What I don‘t recommend is watching the movie. It destroyed the essence of what made the book so great and a good read for me even as an adult.
I was down a rabbit hole, reading an article about traditionally published authors who started off writing fan fiction... and this was just one of the links at the bottom.
What a concept.
Edited to add : did not mean to add this under this book (I was going for untitled/unknown)
Living for this book meme trend...
When I tell you I was chuffed that I worked out what book this was before I got to the tags... 😁😆
In honor of St. Patrick‘s Day and my Irish heritage, I read Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. I didn‘t know what to expect, but I was very happy to read it. Exciting adventures, leprechauns, goblins, fairies and dwarves! And cunning Artemis who is only 12! I hear there are more of these books. I plan to check them out. #100YEARS100BOOKS #BookSpinBingo #20 (I got a Bingo!) #BFC21 #SERIES2021 #MGMarch #MarvellousMarch
I have been posting a lot lately about exciting adaptations. If you want to see me slightly lose my mind over a bad page to screen translation, I try to talk through finally finishing the Artemis Fowl movie. https://youtu.be/hkpDa9wtiE4
This book is a fantasy story about a kid named Artemis Fowl, who has tricked a drunken fairy into giving him all of the fairy secrets in one book. Including the main secret that tells us where all the fairies' gold is and where they are able to regain all their magic, this will cause the climax. Artemis and his butler went to the area where the magic gets regained.
Finished this late last night!

This is about a 12 year old criminal mastermind who wants to steal something precious from the fairies. Lots of intrigue, adventure, fantasy and action! I thought it was a tad on the dark side for something with a 12 year old lead. Definitely fun and absorbing read for me, and I even started decoding the Gnommish language that lines each page! 🤓
Now to watch the movie!
@TheAromaofBooks
Beginning this tonight, and excited if I can finish it before bed! My work book club decided we needed to read lighter selections during summer quarantine 🤓
This seemed appropriate with the 🎥 having just been released! If I can get this done tonight, I may have to watch that tomorrow and pop some 🍿 too!
I had to re-read it after Disney tossed it in the dumpster, doused it with gasoline and chucked in a lit flame thrower. The book is always better. 🤷🏾♀️
“Confidence is ignorance. If you're feeling cocky, it's because there's something you don't know.”
“If I win, I'm a prodigy. If I lose, then I'm crazy. That's the way history is written.”
“I'm right there with you, darlin'. Unless you step on a landmine, in which case I'm way back in the Operations Room.”
This was a super fun, easy quick read! I think this is a super well written middle grade book! It is interesting and fast paced and the material is super interesting! Eoin Colfer is an exceptional writer and I can't wait to read more book by him!
Didn't know I would get summer classes when I signed up for #SummerFun, so I'm way behind!
Reread Artemis Fowl as my first "relaxing" book since my dissertation for the Old Favorite, which turned into rereading the whole series -- though I've now hit the books he wrote after I stopped keeping track, so that's fun! Conflicted on whether to watch the movie while we have Disney+ since I visualize the book so well!
@4thhouseontheleft @StayCurious
New audiobook to squeeze in before my next regency read. Need something quick and different so it doesn‘t all blend into my head as one story. Starting S&S and Sea Monsters in print tonight and still waiting for Evalina to arrive. I don‘t think it has even left the warehouse yet... And I ordered it a week ago. 😠🤷🏼♀️ ah well. Guess that is the beauty of the TBR pile!? 📚📚
This was one of the recommended reads to my son from his English tutor . When I found out Disney had made a movie I jumped in too!
Book 1 of the series where we meet 12 year old genius Artemis Fowl , mastermind criminal who infiltrates the secret fairy world. Leprechaun‘s , alcoholic sprites , magic and trolls.
Good fun! Look forward to watching the movie and reading another in the series ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Dominic Noble's review of the Artemis Fowl adaptation is up for the rest of the world. Join in the cathartic fuming if you like. (Warning: cursing is not censored)

Hey Littens! I wanted to share this lovely person's channel with you all! His main specialty is reviewing adaptations with his series Lost in Adaptation. Most recently: he read Artemis Fowl and made movie predictions, and now and he's got another video coming out soon reviewing the movie (I already saw the video b/c patreons see videos earlier. Spoiler: the movie SUCKS!)

I‘m only a half hour into it, but this movie is just bad. Completely butchering one of my favorite series. ☹️
The book is amazing. So clever with fantastic characters.
The film is truly awful. Not true to the world at all. The dialogue is patronising. The whole thing is so flat. Gave up after an hour of watching it. What a massive disappointment.
Should have re-read the book instead. 😞
"??? ?? ??????? ??? ?????? ??? ??????? ?? ??? ???? ?????? ??????'? ??? ????? ???? ??????, ???? ??????????."
The first book in the bestselling series by Eoin Colfer. I have been meaning to read this for years. The movie adaptation was released today on Disney+. I had a lot of fun with the book so I purchased the rest of the series (all $0.99 on ebook right now).
Bookish pet peeve #1 when the movie is NOTHING like the book 😐
Figured I‘d check this out before watching it
A childhood classic that was still a refreshing and new world to discover, and right before the movie airs! This book reminded me of what it felt like to be a young reader, discovering the possibilities of protagonists and anti heroes who were my age at the time of first reading it! It was an unexpected pleasure to experience that again!
Currently reading...this is the bedtime book I‘m reading with my 10 year old
Oops, forgot to post the review! Still as interesting as the first time I read it, it's clearly written for a #middlegrade audience but you could say the themes span a wider age range so it kept my interest (kidnapping, gold, mind games). I can still see why I fell for Artemis, it was awesome to remeet Holly, and wow Butler is so cool! Onto the next book! Huh where did it go?! #fantasy #faeries
I've been in a rereading mood lately! Artemis was my favorite character and I even adopted his name as my user for years because I thought he was super cool, let's see if that's still the case 😉 #fantasy #middlegrade #faeries #evilboygenius
Oh boy. I'm a newcomer who hasn't read all the books and I can see from the latest trailer that Disney messed it up. Unfortunately, I'm a sucker for eye-candy and, of course, it has that. Cue the what-could-have-been lament.
I missed this news when it first came out...Disney has decided against a theatrical release for the movie and will instead premiere it on Disney+ in June. I enjoyed this fun middle grade series and will definitely check out the movie. In fact, I see a family movie night in our future!
Anyone want to rant about the new Disney Artemis Fowl trailer?
I personally CANNOT believe what they‘ve turned Artemis into. A wide-eyed child surprised and scared at every turn? Every single character seems to have been severely changed.

The good thing about the library being closed to the public is that I get to listen to audiobooks at work ☺️ But I‘m definitely ready for things to go back to normal.
Just finished reading it for the second time!

It seems like the movie will be even less like the book than I expected, and now, I‘m super bummed.
