Slower than I enjoyed but overall good read.
An unexpected scifi story, better left unspoiled by the blurb! When her planet‘s colony is forced to leave, elderly Ofelia decides her best chance at peace and quiet is to stay behind. Alone. Examines capitalism and patriarchy to ask: why do we think so little of old women? She wonders: is a community that disrespects you preferable to isolation?
In turns tense, humorous, surreal, and (datedly) feminist in a mix that reminded me of Mrs. Caliban.
I've started the year off with a really good reading month. Everything I've read this month has been three stars or higher including my first five star in forever with the tagged. I've also been really good about not starting new series until I've caught up with the old

I loved everything about this book and it's probably the first five star read I've had in over a year. Ofelia is an old woman who decides to remain when her colony terminated and evacuated. She enjoys the solitude of being the only person on the planet until suddenly she's not. Ofelia goes on a journey of self discovery that is complicated when she inadvertently makes first contact.

Waiting in the car while my grandmother has her hearing aids adjusted. Perfect time to read.
#BookReport
I had a really good week finishing off six books in an effort to get my goodreads challenge to an agreeable number. Most were quick and light but entertaining.
#WeeklyForecast
My goal for the week is to finish the tagged and then head into my #BookSpin selections. I don't see myself finishing all three this week but if I do I'll start working on my goals of finishing series.
Finally decided what my first book of 2021 would be. In the end I went for RNG as this is my #CalibreRoulette pick for the month. Pleased that both girls decided to join me.
#CatsOfLitsy
On a distant planet, where a small rural earth colony is being relocated off planet by the owning corporation, Ofelia and an elderly woman decides to hide rather than leave. Mostly motivated by finally having some alone time. 😄
Except she ends up being the first contact for a highly intelligent but low technology alien species.
Absolutely loved this caustic and curious lead character. I loved Ofelia's rediscovery of her childhood inquisitiveness and the way she handles her new and unexpected leadership position in her abandoned colony.
#readharder
I picked this one up at the recommendation of a customer. I liked it at first but it started to drag about halfway through. In all honesty, I had to force myself to finish it (I kept checking how many pages I had left...not a great sign). Despite a promising plot, this one was just way too slow-paced to keep me interested and I never really connected with any of the characters.
My #MonthlyStats! I love seeing what I've been reading all month and I can't wait to see what February brings! Hint: more books, that's what February will bring 😉
🌟🌟🌟🌟 Solid 3.5 stars. I enjoyed reading this quiet sci-fi novel about a woman who stays behind on an abandoned planet because she's tired of traveling and being bossed around. She's old and just wants to live her final years in peace and quiet. That is not to be as she discovers she is not as alone as she had thought. Aliens discover the abandoned colony and she must learn how to interact with them to survive. Ofelia was such a great MC! 👵👽
I haven't listened to my audiobook in nearly a week, it was good to check in on Ofelia again!
I'm really enjoying listening to this quiet sci-fi novel about a woman who is left behind on an abandoned planet. She thinks she's alone but it appears that all is not as it seems.
I love the way the author transitions her character through the stages of loneliness
This book is captivating and psychologically engaging. Imagine thinking you're alone only to discover you aren't! 😳
