Poirot and Me
Poirot and Me | David Suchet
8 posts | 5 read | 1 reading | 7 to read
In the summer of 2013 David Suchet will film his final scenes as Hercule Poirot. After 24 years in the role, he will have played the character in every story that Agatha Christie wrote about him (bar one, deemed unfilmable) and he will bid adieu to a role and a character that have changed his life. In Poirot and Me, David Suchet tells the story of how he secured the part, with the blessing of Agatha Christie's daughter, and set himself the task of presenting the most authentic Poirot that had ever been filmed. David Suchet is uniquely placed to write the ultimate companion to one of the world's longest running television series. Peppered with anecdotes about filming, including many tales of the guest stars who have appeared over the years, the book is essential reading for Poirot fans all over the world.

As a Christie super fan I absolutely loved every minute of this! David Suchet was fantastic as Poirot and really put his heart and soul into the role. I felt quite emotional reading parts of this. Strongly recommend if you love Poirot like me

Ruthiella Ooh! I am a Suchet/Poirot superfan too! I will have to check this out. 2y
Cazxxx @Ruthiella I highly recommend it! 2y

1. One of my faves from last week - not got many new ones, sorry 🙈

2. Don't get me started about David Suchet again 💕 Still starstruck from Sunday 🥰

3. For Pickles. Our cat, not the gherkin. I love her in all her furry spikiness.

Just got back from an evening with David Suchet at the Theatre Royal. It was wonderful to see my acting hero on the stage in person (we were lucky enough to have front row seats 😀)

Picked up both these books (signed) in the foyer 😊🥰

I'm a Poirot superfan so it was a wonderful evening 💕💕

deeannloso Wow! That would be so cool! He was the best Hercule Poirot! 2y
RaeLovesToRead @deeannloso It was awesome 😁 (I still refuse to watch the final episode - Curtain - even now!) 2y
vivastory That sounds amazing!! 2y

RaeLovesToRead @vivastory I was so starstruck!! 😄 2y
deeannloso @RaeLovesToRead I‘ve watched it several times. It makes me cry, but it‘s excellent. 2y
vivastory Reading the tagged book description it says one story was called unfilmable. Which one was that? 2y
RaeLovesToRead @deeannloso Maybe one day I'll watch it, but I think it would be hard 💔 2y
RaeLovesToRead @vivastory I believe it is The Lemesurier Inheritance, but I'll be honest, Scott, I just googled it, haha 😅🤣 2y
vivastory Are you a fan of Branagh's performance as Poirot? 2y
rabbitprincess Ooooo front row seats! Fab! I have watched Curtain but my BF decided not to watch it with me because he knew I would be crying 😅 2y
RaeLovesToRead @vivastory I did watch the Branagh version of murder on the Orient Express and I hated it (sorry!) There is only one Poirot and that is David Suchet ❤ 2y
RaeLovesToRead @rabbitprincess Haha, aww! I remember ringing my Mum when it came on and asking what happened... we've seen all the episodes many times except that one! 2y
vivastory I can respect that. I enjoyed the Branagh version, but the mustache was kind of ridiculous. 2y
RaeLovesToRead @vivastory I think I spent the whole film yelling at the telly 😅😶 Branagh was great in Harry Potter though! 2y
rabbitprincess @RaeLovesToRead I couldn‘t watch Branagh because the moustache was so utterly wrong 😬 2y
RaeLovesToRead @rabbitprincess The moustache was... distracting 😆😂 I'm not sure who made the artistic decision to stick an entire ferret on his face, but it didn't help the situation! 2y

Mehso-so

So it kills me to give this a so-so, but I found the book very repetitive. When Suchet talked about his relationship with the Christie family and members of the Poirot production it was fascinating. When Suchet talked about paying homage to Poirot, the book was phenomenal. Unfortunately, that was only about 1/3 of the book. The rest was either press reviews or reiterations of items previously noted.

This was my third book for #14books14weeks2021

youngreadrshelf That‘s sad because he‘s my favorite Poirot. 3y
Mollyanna @youngreadrshelf He is the only Poirot in my opinion. He embodies the detective! One of the fascinating parts of this book is how he created his version of Poirot. If the book had been shortened by 75 - 100 pages it might have been more enjoyable. As it stands I felt there was a lot of unnecessary filler. 3y
youngreadrshelf @Mollyanna well, I will probably avoid it. I prefer to think of him as Hercule rather than David. 😜 3y
