Thinking about this time in history gives me the chills. I remember that image on tv where King and his compatriots are standing on the small balcony of a motel room moments before he is killed. Dyson does an in-depth analysis of Martin‘s speeches, his fears, his visions, and their relationship to politics and religion. It is a fact that the FBI made MLK‘s and his family‘s lives a living hell.

Interesting analysis of MLK Jr's impact before and after his death and how his death immortalized and re-popularized him. I enjoyed the analysis of subsequent leaders of the movement, specifically Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

I would like to read Michael Eric Dyson's analysis of the Black Lives Matter movement, focusing on the seemingly decentralized leadership style.

[Longer review, cont in comments] Fascinating look at MLK's legacy. MLK is a frequently whitewashed figure. We look at his major successes without his underlying beliefs & flaws and paint him as a hero instead of the complex man he was. This book does his legacy justice & humanizes MLK in a way I haven't quite seen before. It examines his mental health struggles, religion/politics, & interpersonal struggles within the Civil Rights Movement. 👇🏼

This book continues to nail it with its discussions of our current struggles with racial justice and the legacy MLK left. It's not about colorblindness; it's about eliminating racial privileges. 🔥🔥

A powerful book on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His premonitions that he would be killed and his speech the night before he was assassinated will leave you in awe of the man. Everyone needs to read this so we can see how far we've come as a society and how far we still must go.

This is a heck of a book to be reading today and this week. Our celebrations often create a false narrative surrounding Dr. King's legacy and beliefs, and Dyson argues really well that this is because we have demons we have yet to face. #InspiredbyMLK

Taking some time to read about Dr. King this afternoon. This is a great book so far that discusses his assassination and how it impacted his legacy. Michael Eric Dyson is a prominent academic that focuses on racial justice and politics. He has a new very timely book coming out this year, so this is a nice segue into his work.
