Murder in an Irish Village
Murder in an Irish Village | Carlene O'Connor

A little slice of Heaven on the Emerald Isle... In the small village of Kilbane, County Cork, Ireland, Natalie's Bistro has always been a warm and welcoming spot to visit with neighbors, enjoy some brown bread and tea, and get the local gossip. Nowadays twenty-two-year-old Siobhn O'Sullivan runs the family bistro named for her mother, along with her five siblings, after the death of their parents in a car crash almost a year ago. It's been a rough year for the O'Sullivans, but it's about to get rougher. One morning, as they're opening the bistro, they discover a man seated at a table, dressed in a suit as if for his own funeral, a pair of hot pink barber scissors protruding from his chest. With the local garda suspecting the O'Sullivans, and their business in danger of being shunned--murder tends to spoil the appetite--it's up to feisty redheaded Siobhn to solve the crime and save her beloved brood. ADVANCE PRAISE FOR CARLENE O'CONNOR AND MURDER IN AN IRISH VILLAGE "If Janet Evanovich and Maeve Binchy wrote a book together, Murder in an Irish Village would be the result. The Irish setting rings with authenticity and Siobhan O'Sullivan is a character to savor. She's funny, feisty, and fearless. I want her to be my new best friend. I also want another book by Carlene O'Connor to read. This one is delicious fun."--Laurien Berenson, author of Live and Let Growl "A smart whodunnit in an idyllic locale. I dare you not to be charmed by sleuth Siobhan and her siblings, the O'Sullivan Six."--Barbara Ross, author of Musseled Out "A delightful, funny, fast-paced romp of a book. O'Connor has written a vivid evocation of life in a small Irish town, an evocation replete with sharp characterizations and dialogue real enough to make you believe you're sitting in an Irish pub. A satisfying read that will keep you entertained from the first to the last page."--Isis Crawford, author of A Catered Tea Party

A pretty typical cozy mystery - the main characters run a cafe/bistro and find the brother of the person who caused their parent's fatal accident murdered in the cafe. I enjoyed it, but the Irish names often made me stop and think about how to pronounce them. This is my #BookSpin book for March and the first book finished for #MarvellousMarch #SavvySettings @TheAromaofBooks @Andrew65 @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

After a slow start this one really grabbed my attention and kept me guessing. The Irish village setting and unusual characters felt authentic to this non Irish person. I'll probably try the next book in the series sometime soon. My 6th book for #cozyinthesun

Librarybelle I have this one on my to read list! 5y
ferskner That cover is to die for! 5y

8 and 9 for #Cozyinthesun. Both are the first in a new to me series. They were enjoyable reads but I am not sure I will read more.

@Librarybelle @ferskner

rretzler The Irish Village series is a little uneven, but it is a cute series and has kind of grown on me. Although, I must admit, once I‘m a couple of books into a series, I tend to keep reading even if the books are not the greatest because I guess I‘m afraid of missing something(?) 🤷🏼‍♀️ 5y
Librarybelle I‘ve read some series like that - not sure if I should continue 5y
Deblovestoread @rretzler I am the same. I want to know what happens next and then the characters become old friends and so it goes. 5y
rretzler Glad to know I‘m not alone! 🤣 I think I‘m currently reading 5 series that are so-so at best, but I keep on with them anyway. At least they are short books for the most part 🤣 5y
ferskner I have such a hard time quitting cozy series, even if I don't like them. The covers always appeal to me so much! 5y

This was a really entertaining read. Slightly mawkish in places and took a while to get going but once the pace picked up it was gripping. Really good fun read.

Set in small town Ireland, which I would love to visit one day. Protagonist a feisty, scooter riding, sister turned snoop, when her brother is accused of murder. Parents died in car accident a year earlier; she is running family bistro & keeping sibs together.
