Butterflies in November
Butterflies in November | Audur Ava lafsdttir
17 posts | 23 read | 16 to read
A young woman is left by her husband without warning, then she is asked by her sick best friend to look after her four-year-old son. In the twilight of an Icelandic November, the pair set off on a tour of the island, and an unlikely friendship develops. A story shot-through with laughter and a distinctive, life-affirming charm, this book is a novel that will stay with the reader long after the smiles it provokes have faded from their lips.

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick This is on my TBR for the year. Good to hear you enjoyed it. 3y
Mirazzles @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick it was quite quirky and enjoyable. So far, I‘ve enjoyed each book I‘ve read by this author. All very different but with her signature style 😊 3y

“It‘s not that I‘m fleeing anything, just exploring my most intimate and uncharted territories in a quest for fresh feelings in a new prefabricated summer cottage planted on the edge of a muddy ravine with my hearing and sight-impaired four-year-old travelling companion” It seems that the protagonist‘s life is looking up after she is dumped twice in one day and hits a goose with her car 🇮🇸

This one is quite quirky and eccentric so far… it‘s the third novel I‘ve read from this author. I must say I do enjoy the characters she creates and the narratives she weaves. I must say that I can feel the cold, damp wind that the author describes..

This is a great read for empowered, compassionate protagonists thrown intro eccentric scenarios.

I really enjoyed the first half of the book. I didn‘t find the rest of the book strong and I was bored with it.

So far, the book is fun. The protagonist strikes me as somewhat detached from her life, but I‘ll hope she gets better.

Finallt beginning #readaroundtheworld. First stop: Iceland, which has always intrigued me because it has such a unique history and culture.

theresidentromantic I can't wait to see what you post about your read, I'm going there in April! 7y
Betty Iceland also has a unique geography. Moss on lava rocks. And steam rising from the ground and steam heating for all residents. (edited) 7y
TheAnitaAlvarez @theresidentromantic ooooh, that‘s quite an adventure! Hope you enjoy your trip! 7y
TheAnitaAlvarez @Betty it‘s probably a huge factor for their culture, isn‘t it? 7y
Betty @TheAnitaAlvarez I'm sure you're right 7y

Found this odd little gem at the Keflavik airport. My mum no longer even questions this compulsion. Probably not a good sign. 💖📚

No idea what exactly NF is supposed to represent, but I am posting this novel about Iceland. I'd love to visit Iceland, just need some money and a travel companion who can take over the driving when I have to stop. 😀

EDIT: @silentrequiem thinks NF neans non-fiction (makes sense) - so I'm going to post something else again later.

A late one for #womenintranslation. I was quite pleased to find more than I expected.

💕👍🏼💕For House of The Spirits and Pocket Atlas of Small Islands
📚📚📚I've heard such great things about Ferrante and have never read any of Tove Janssons non-Moomin books, so both are on my tbr
🦋📚🦋Butterflies was a library find that (of course) I've not yet started...

Saturday morning perfection. So far I'm loving this funny, sharp and beautiful Icelandic novel. One of my goals for 2017 is to read more in translation. So far this is my first--an auspicious beginning! #intranslation
