It was fun to spend time with Mona again and I liked that Jane stayed somewhat on the sidelines of this mystery (versus finding the body.) I appreciate that Barron isn't writing each of these mysteries with the same formula, each one has something interesting & unique that keeps the series interesting!

2️⃣ Henry. He's such a good brother in this one. Plus I loved this: "Ah,” Henry said knowledgeably. “And at the cold collation that is certain to follow—not even the General could be so remiss in what is due to his daughter as to forgo the cold collation!

Crinoline_Laphroaig 3️⃣ “Worthing?” His tone of revulsion was not propitious. “Jane, only such relicts of the country gentry as are tottering on the edge of their graves, seek to be known in Worthing.”

"Let it be the taffeta, my dearest Jane."

Not from book but rather from @stephaniebarronfrancinemathews interview included at the end. "I like the realm of possibility; it‘s the bedrock of all my writing, and far more interesting than the known world."

Crinoline_Laphroaig 4️⃣ I would quickly tire of fashionable crowd at Brighton. Give me quiet rambles along the Cobb at Lyme.

5️⃣ Google tells me Avg May sea temperatures off Brighton are 11.6°C / 52.9°F. 🥶 Surely there will be tea at the cold collation!

6️⃣ As long as Bryon doesn't dump us in the sea, I rather be above ground and in the fresh air.

Crinoline_Laphroaig 7️⃣ While I know quite a bit about Eliza de Feuillide, I didn't know she died of breast cancer. I would like to read a biography of her.

8️⃣ Everyone is aging and it shows "The Autumn of my life is come— my hopes of happiness long since buried in an unmarked grave— and how long, pray, shall the sun endure, before Winter?"

kspenmoll 1) stand out- when she met up with Desdemona, the Rogue‘s niece. 2) Fav character-Henry. Felt I got to know him & their close relationship in depth. 3) “Mad. A poet touched by the insane. A diabolical figure of licence and flame, armed with a pen.”(50) 4) a solitary ramble along the Cobb 5) cold sea bathing 6) exploring the tunnels 7) I love the detail of all the clothing, but I learned about their bathing machines- they fascinated me, along 🔽 (edited) 2y

kspenmoll 🔼 the whole prudishness of the Victorian Age. 8) This took me awhile to get into but once I was engaged it was a wonderful ride, especially the characterization of so many characters. Looking forward to the Canterbury Tales. 2y

Crinoline_Laphroaig Of all the Being a Jane Austen Mystery Series, this one and June's Jane and the Canterbury Tale I've read the least. Having only read for #JaneAndTheYear2020 so looking forward to reading a 2nd time.

TheBookHippie I am picking up my copy at the library tomorrow! They have TWO copies! There is no rhyme or reason as to which books in this series they carry! So bizarre!
