Murder Underground
Murder Underground | Mavis Hay

This detective novel is much more than interesting. The numerous characters are well differentiated, and include one of the most feckless, exasperating and lifelike literary men that ever confused a trail. Dorothy L. Sayers, Sunday Times, 1934 When Miss Pongleton is found murdered on the stairs of Belsize Park station, her fellow-boarders in the Frampton Hotel are not overwhelmed with grief at the death of a tiresome old woman. But they all have their theories about the identity of the murderer, and help to unravel the mystery of who killed the wealthy Pongle . Several of her fellow residents even Tuppy the terrier have a part to play in the events that lead to a dramatic arrest. This classic mystery novel is set in and around the Northern Line of the London Underground. It is now republished for the first time since the 1930s, with an introduction by award-winning crime writer Stephen Booth."

Set in central London during the Golden Age of Murder Mystery. I used to work near where it is set and the locations are very genuine and vivid. They really make this story.

I love to #turnbacktime and indulge in a Golden Age murder mystery or a witty Regency romance. #LiteraryLuck

Well, someone has to be #guilty.

I love the cover art for all of the titles in the British Library Crime Classics series. ❤️ This is only my second one and I'm feeling the need for MORE. 😬

#FallIntoBooks

LauraBrook I bought one, stared at the cover for awhile, and now I have about a dozen. 😲 7y

drokka I wish I could afford them all. They really are fantastic editions. I can't recall which one I have though. I'm relatively certain it's not this title. I want to say it's a house in the Highlands on the cover. 7y
LeahBergen @drokka I definitely need more. The only other one I've read is 7y
drokka I've finally opened the box with the one I have. It's Murder of a Lady. Like you, I need more 😁 7y

drokka Excellent find! 🙌 I scoured the mystery section at Indigo, but failed to find another of the British Library offerings. The search continues. 😁 7y

#FeistyFeb Day 25 - International Crime

The closest my crime reading gets to being "international" is that it's British. I'm especially keen on the British Library Crime Classics series, and found Mavis Doriel Hay to be a wonderful discovery!
