#BookReport 20/24

An eclectic mix of books this week. A thriller, A literary novel, a horror/ true crime and a historical fantasy! It felt good to stir things up a bit.
This weeks favorite is Six Stories.

Another delicious twisty thriller by John Marrs. Although the main characters sometimes act a bit too convenient for the sake of the book, I couldn‘t put it down.

Laura volunteers at a suicide helpline where she listens to callers and encourages them to end their lives.

Suet624 Well that's rude!! 7mo
Bookwomble Having previously volunteered at a suicide support line for many years, I find the premise unlikely. Everyone who volunteered was passionate about the work and put a lot of time, compassion and emotion into it. I know it's fiction, and I'm having a personal reaction - I don't mean to be a wet blanket 🙂 7mo
BarbaraBB @Bookwomble It is very unlikely indeed and that‘s one of the weak points of the book. It must be very emotional to do this work and I‘m sure selection procedures are hard, yet this woman could fool all her colleagues. 7mo

Cathythoughts I have this one stacked. 👍🏻 Yes , lovely photo. ❤️ 7mo
Bookwomble @BarbaraBB The charity I volunteered for is called Samaritans, so it feels too close for comfort. An eight week training process followed by several months of mentoring identified many for whom it wasn't an appropriate role. Anyway, as I say, a personal reaction which I hope doesn't spoil the enjoyment for others of a book I'll never read 😄 The tagged is a truer, if dated, account. 7mo
emmasm08 @BarbaraBB it‘s a good read ! A while since I read it but I remembered enjoying it ! 7mo
BarbaraBB @Bookwomble That procedure sounds similar to the one described in the book. But I definitely wouldn‘t read it if I were you! Thanks for the recommendations, The Listeners sounds good. 7mo

🌟🌟🌟🌟

The absolutely king of the page turner!!! For some reason, I just can‘t put down this author‘s books. I NEED to know what the hell is going on at all costs lol.

This one was no exception. The only reason for the 4 star instead of 5 was I do believe it was a bit far fetched at times with the ultimate villain and the completely stupid victim/no victim in the character of Ryan.

A completely dependable author each and every time.

I'll be honest, this book scared the hell out of me. That's how I know that a psychological thriller read is 5⭐️

Another excellent book. John Marrs is definitely one of my top 3 favorite authors! This one started out a little slow but still interesting. Once the action started though it didn‘t stop. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Trigger warning: suicide. This book started out so creepy and right when I got to the point where I thought I was going to have to quit, there was a twist that changed my view. There were probably 5 ‘twists‘ that totally changed the story and kept me intrigued… I didn‘t expect any of them and it was like seeing the story thru a different lens or point of view. This one is going to sit with me a while.

Meet Laura. Laura works at a suicide prevention center. But, Laura has her own agenda. Rather than helping callers work through their difficulties and trying to point out reasons why they shouldn‘t end their lives, Laura aids them in doing just that. Laura knows all how to make suicide less painful so she encourages them and actually helps them plan it out. That is, until one of her “victims” discovers her dirty little secret. So many twists!

DGRachel That sounds really good! 3y

Whilst there is absolutely nothing to like about Laura the MC, you can‘t take your eyes off her shenanigans!! And some twisted shenanigans they are!
A good thriller 👍🏻

Deliciously twisted. I enjoyed getting into Laura‘s disturbing mind, I only wish the ending wasn‘t so loose. I would love a follow up book if there is one. I only wished I hadn‘t slept on this book for so long, as it was an Amazon First Read from a few years ago. #BookSpinBingo

This is my third book by John Marrs and I have to say he has yet to disappoint me. This book is straight up crazy cakes! It is dark, twisty, disturbing and uncomfortable at times. Laura seems to have the perfect life. She volunteers at a suicide hotline but her motives are questionable at best. Y‘all there are twists galore and horrible characters that you will love to root against. It is a book that you will devour.

In The Good Samaritan, Laura is one of those characters who you absolutely love to hate. She works for the End of Line – a phone line purporting to be there for people who feel there is no other option left to them but suicide. She is an incredibly complex character and far from offering these people reassurance and hope, she has much darker motives. I have loved every one of John Marrs‘ books ❤️

This book was crazy pants! In all honesty, I started to stop several times but I am so glad I got through the parts making me uncomfortable and just enjoyed the trip to Crazyville! I listened to the book and the audio version was very good.

The Good Samaritan is a roller coaster of a thriller! It‘s off to that slow build with Laura ‘s perspective. When the chapter‘s flip to Ryan‘s perspective the twist and turns just keep coming & the book becomes so hard to put down. I‘d recommend this for lovers of a slow building thriller.
