Die Geschichte des Dämons Jakabok Bosh - ein Irrweg durch Welten und Zeiten ... Verbrennen Sie dieses Buch. Na los. Schnell, so lange noch Zeit ist. Verbrennen Sie es. Lesen Sie kein einziges Wort mehr. Haben Sie gehört? Kein. Einziges. Wort.

I was really curious and excited about this book and I hate to say that it is very disappointing. I wish there we more creative ideas and the book lived up to it's premise which is releasing a demon upon reading it. Just for the novelty of the premise it was worth reading it for me. however, it really underdelivers and there isn't much going for it.

"I know, I know, you're thinking it's just a book filled with words, like any other book. And what are words? Black marks on white paper. How much harm could there be in something so simple?" #Scarathlon 2023 Photo Challenge Day One - Black (Figured I'd take the photo since I had to get up to change DVDs) #TeamWhoYaGonnaCall

Would have been enjoyable if not so focused on being gross; it also manages to be problematic (ableist, fatphobic) in what it's including in descriptions meant to repulse the reader. Good gimmick regarding breaking the fourth wall, relationship between book and reader, but empty threats/insults get old fast. Hints of doomed queer romance/theological themes/history suggest it could have been more, feels like incomplete creative writing prompt.

Cute but also a bit tedious. Not sure if it's intended to be teen fiction but felt like it.
I enjoyed the framing of the invention in question (which I won't name as it's a spoiler) as being pivotal in the world and the bartering between angels and demons in its allowed use.

myellenbee Mr. B Gone sounds terrifying. I've never heard of it but won't adding to my list, I'm a scaredy cat. Turn of the Screw is as scary as I can do. 4y

Fun read, but a bit too goofy in parts to be serious horror. And I thought the ending dragged out a bit more than was needed.

I can't say that I'd really recommend this book but for someone who doesn't mind the narrating style it would be a fun read.

CindyMyLifeIsLit I think I‘ll pass. My Goodreads‘ friends pretty universally rated it one star. (edited) 6y
BeansPage @CindyMyLifeIsLit yeah it was not one of his best works at all. Which is really sad because I love Clive Barker's books â˜¹ï¸ 6y
Birdsong28 Loved this!! I read it when I was at uni in my room on my own and I was constantly looking over my shoulder whilst reading it. 📚📖 6y
BookwormAHN I didn't like this one either. I feel that it was made for more of a teen audience and I was to old for it. 6y
BeansPage @BookwormAHN maybe that's what was wrong with it is I'm just too old for that kind of thing. 6y

The novel tells the story of Jakabok Botch, demon spawn from the Ninth Circle of Hell, and how he came to this earth to wind up in the pages of this very book, which he urges the reader to burn. The conceit is interesting but does get redundant at times. There are some great ideas and a couple of creepy moments, but it did not quite come together.

Not one of his best for sure. The narrator of the book is also the main character and he continuously breaks the reality of the book and tries to make it seem like the book is real to the reader. It comes off as rather annoying in the manner in which he does this. Plus it breaks from the story and in my opinion takes away from the story itself. Would have been more entertaining to read if not for that.

ReadingVampire I‘m really upset with Clive Barker have you read his Aberat series? It‘s amazing but he hasn‘t finished it and I think he never is going to. 😫 7y
BeansPage @Puredragonstar no I haven't gotten to that series yet. And last I heard, he wasn't doing very well health wise. That series may never be finished 😢 7y
ReadingVampire Oh nooooooooo!!!!! Maybe it‘s a good idea then to stay clear if there won‘t be an ending. I hope he gets better! 🤧 7y

Reggie @Puredragonstar I used to listen to The Nerdist Podcast and he actual gives an interview right before he goes to the dentist and goes into what I think is toxic shock. Where a grouped piece of bacteria was loosened and it entered his bloodstream and put him into a coma. And while he was in the coma he had a couple of strokes. He‘s alive and what is sad is that he gives an interview afterward saying he had the craziest dream and he didn‘t know 👇🼠7y
Reggie It but the dream he describes is from one of his books. 7y
ReadingVampire @Reggie I had no idea! Poor man I‘ve been so upset at him for so long, I feel bad now. I hope he has a speedy recovery. 7y

I present Clive Barkers playfully dark and demonic tale about the power of printed media, Mr B Gone. Barkers attempt at dark (very dark) humour and farce fell flat for me a lot in this book. Though I can see he was trying to break genre walls, it missed more often than it hit

A medieval demon tells you about his life, sort of, while begging you to destroy the book. If you don't mind the gimmick, gory threats and events, it's certainly an interesting read for a horror fan
