What would you do if your neighbor was a dinosaur? Going extinct isn't for everyone. Sybil knows that there is something off about her next door neighbor, but she can't seem to get anyone to believe her. Everyone is so busy going about their days in the busy streets of New York City that they don't notice Bolivar. They don't notice his odd height, his tiny arms, or his long tail. No one but Sybil sees that Bolivar is a dinosaur. When an unlikely parking ticket pulls Bolivar into an adventure from City Hall to New Yorks Natural History Museum, he must finally make a choice: continue to live unnoticed, or let the city see who he really is. School Library Journal says... "Bolivar the dinosaur speaks to the introvert in all of us. That part deep down inside that encourages us to hide away from the world, keep to ourselves, and avoid any and all connections for fear of getting hurt. Dinosaurs may not be around anymore but Bolivars abound. Even little Bolivars who will pick up this book and instantly connect with someone just like them. So for the Bolivars and the Manhattan-lovers, the graphic novel enthusiasts and the parents just looking for a good bedtime story, Bolivar the book is the place to go. Dino-mite stuff."

One of the most beautiful #graphicnovels I've ever read! It's meant to be for kids, but I still loved it, and so did my 5-year-old! Fun story, great message, quirky and cute.

This was a great book and story! The illustrations were amazing, just saying. The story is about a dinosaur blending in NYC without anyone noticing him but a small girl. The girl follows him around trying to get a picture of him. In the end, the question is would you rather go unnoticed and be alone or have friends? Lovely all around.

#HeyJune Day 20: If you are a dinosaur pretending to be something else in the bustling city of New York, you have to learn how to #ActNaturally. He is not a figment of young Sybil‘s imagination, nor is he an imaginary friend. The adults are simply obtuse, too wrapped up with their own sense of self-importance &patronizing manner to see, listen, &pay attention. Some pages are all panels, while others layer splash pages, panels, and even picture-book-like text and captions. Hunting for evidence of Bolivar the dinosaur on every page-- and how the adults don't notice him-- is half the fun.

Beautiful graphic novel about a little girl in NYC whose neighbor may be the only living dinosaur-- if only anyone else would notice. It would make a great bedtime story/read-aloud for kids who are transitioning out of picture books, too-- lots to notice on each page and not a lot of text/dialogue. The chapters also break up its 200-page heft.

I liked this book; it was like reading a huge chapter book that had interesting GN appeal. I liked that no one took notice of Bolivar, except for Sybil. She believed in him when others were too busy to even notice. A good book about two unlikely friends 💕 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bolivar is the last dinosaur and all he wants is to keep a low profile, listen to records in his NYC apartment, visit museums, and peruse used bookstores. When the little girl next door realizes what Bolivar really is things get complicated.

I ended up reading this 200-some page book to my 3 year old 3 times in a week upon his request. Thanks again @Librariana

Clwojick I feel like this is a must own, and I haven‘t even read it before. Love your review. 6y
Karkar This picture makes me want to read this!! 6y
Librariana I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am that your son has requested it THREE times in one week! That's phenomenal!! 😄😊💙💚 @Clwojick - I hear ya! I absolutely fell in love when I read it and was a little worried when @TobeyTheScavengerMonk placed enough faith in my little rant/review to go get it. That's a huge compliment to this little book nerd! 6y

"He liked collecting used books and rummaging through old records."

More Bolivar detail for y'all on T-Rex Thursday! ??❤

The illustrations throughout this graphic novel/picture book mashup are exquisitely detailed (and took the debut author/illustrator SIX YEARS to complete!)

TobeyTheScavengerMonk I think I‘m going to get this “for my son”. 6y
Librariana @TobeyTheScavengerMonk - I think you totally should! I think *he'd* appreciate it 😉😄😊💙 Also! Fair warning: it is a hefty, 200+ page book, but soooo good and darling and all the other adjectives 😁 6y
Librariana @TobeyTheScavengerMonk - Also! It's under development as a feature-length animated movie at Warner Bros. Studios! Supposedly... allegedly... so yeah 😊 6y

❤❤❤❤❤/5

I realize that #recommendsday is usually reserved for Wednesday, but I think T-Rex Thursdays could be a thing. Stay with me, Littens.

During #24in48, I read Bolivar and this darling dino of a graphic novel tale now has my heart.

The entire time I was reading it, I kept "aawwwing", looking over at my husband (who was extremely focused on a video game), and going "Honey! Looook!" I'm sure he looooved that ?

Continued in comments ⬇

Librariana The gorgeously detailed artwork... the tender humor... I loved Bolivar so much and wish that I could be his neighbor, accompany him to local museums or used bookstores, and sit beside him while he enjoyed a corned beef sandwich on rye. I mean... just look at him up there! Taking a bubble bath and reading! 😍😍😍 6y
rubyslippersreads I think Bolivar and I would be BFFs. 😊 6y
Librariana @rubyslippersreads - Right!? I think you would! I mean... who wouldn't want to be BFFs with that lovable fella!? And he likes to listen to Jazz music!! He's just... 😍 6y
readinginthedark I do the same thing to my husband! Every once in a while he‘ll say something like, “I‘m trying to play a game here...” or “It‘s really hard to focus on something else without dying...” or “I don‘t know if you realized this, but I‘m a little busy!” 😂 6y

Impossible not to love this engaging story about a young girl who discovers her next door neighbor is a dinosaur. No one believes her & when Sybil sets out to gather evidence, crazy adventures await. Soon the entire city realizes an unavoidable truth—dinosaurs aren‘t extinct! A seriously fun read about stepping outside your front door & really seeing the magic & mystery & possibility of the world around you. Oh yeah, beautiful illustrations too.🦖

Slow morning in the library made even slower by the fact that the computer keyboard is non-functional. So, more time to preview books. Opened this one when I was unboxing and it looks super cute so reading it first.
