Time Salvager
Time Salvager | Wesley Chu
Time Salvager: a fast-paced time travel adventure from Wesley Chu, the award-winning author of The Lives of Tao. In a future when Earth is a toxic, abandoned world and humanity has spread into the outer solar system to survive, the tightly controlled use of time travel holds the key maintaining a fragile existence among the other planets and their moons. James Griffin-Mars is a chronman--a convicted criminal recruited for his unique psychological makeup to undertake the most dangerous job there is: missions into Earth's past to recover resources and treasure without altering the timeline. Most chronmen never reach old age, and James is reaching his breaking point. On a final mission that is to secure his retirement, James meets an intriguing woman from a previous century, scientist Elise Kim, who is fated to die during the destruction of an oceanic rig. Against his training and his common sense, James brings her back to the future with him, saving her life, but turning them both into fugitives. Remaining free means losing themselves in the wild and poisonous wastes of Earth, and discovering what hope may yet remain for humanity's home world. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

1. Time Salvager by Wesley Chu
2. Portland Marathon 2018 is cancelled and the nonprofit that ran it for 47 years closed due to accusations of funds mismanagement. I'm not a runner nor big on downtown Portland but it seems a shame that a popular event goes out like this.
3. Sadly, no
4. Why are writers cold? They're surrounded by drafts! Ba-dum-tiss...
5. I don't get this one! But here is a 👍at least.

Anyone else stressed to the gills due to all the nonsense coming out of the WH? Eating movie theater popcorn out of the bag and reading some entertaining time travel sounds like a good way to wind down for the day. #sf #nobannowall

Pruzy Popcorn and books, I gotta try that sometime! 8y
dylanisreading @Pruzy Yes! I especially recommend it with a cinematic style book. 8y
Pruzy @Bianca How is Time Salvager?? Serious or more satirical / comedic? 8y
dylanisreading @Pruzy Serious but with some snarky one liners. I put it down though because I couldn't get past the info dumping at the beginning. I'd like to try it again some time in the future when I have the patience for such exposition. 8y
Pruzy @Bianca That's fair! Thanks for the heads-up! 8y

Mehso-so

Time travel books are always a little tricky for the more pedantic science minded folks like me. Chu does a good job of skirting the various paradoxes though only the future books in the series will tell for sure. ;p

Sure it's a little tropey-guy saves girl who saves guy's soul, corporate greed destroys planet, blah, blah--and somewhat predictable, but satisfyingly so and aided by Chu's writing style which I enjoy. I'll probably read the sequels.

#seasonsreadings2016 I couldn't pick just one. Since I finished 18, I thought three was a good number! #bestofdecember

RanaElizabeth Oh, that Wesley Chu looks intriguing. 8y
Lacythebookworm You did better than me! I chose 6 books for best of December! Sometimes it's just a good reading month!📚😍 8y
bookwrm526 @RanaElizabeth I really enjoyed it! I'm planning to pick up the second one soon but I'm trying to wait until the 1st to start any more 8y

Help y'all. I am not the person who can stay awake for hours on end reading. I planned to read all day, and then took an unexpected 2 hour nap. Caffeine doesn't really affect me, and I don't want to drink energy drinks (I'm looking at you, @Liberty ...). What do you do to stay awake and get more reading time in?

BillBlume When I was younger, I could power through it. These days, I'd vote for a power nap. Otherwise, keep moving around. Read a few pages, then stand and go sit somewhere else. Repeat as necessary. 8y

I don't usually read blurbs, so I didn't notice until after I finished this one that Ann Leckie had blurbed it, which is awesome because I love her books. I'm glad I knew going in that this was part of a series, or the ending would have disappointed me, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and am now looking toward the next one! #seasonsreadings2016

Nerd problems!! All my library holds came in at the same time, and I don't know if I can finish them before they're due. But I'll certainly do my best 😂

Centique I'm about to have this same problem. Three books I've been waiting for all suddenly ready for pick up 😨👍 8y

Fast-paced and with heart, which is the way I know Chu as an author. I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it. Also, Chu totally blew my mind by elegantly solving a logical problem that plagues most time traveling adventures.
