The Merciless II
The Merciless II: The Exorcism of Sofia Flores | Danielle Vega
Danielle Vega--YA's answer to Stephen King--once again brings major scares in the spine-tingling sequel to horror hit The Merciless, which MTV calls "Mean Girls meets The Exorcist." Sofia is still processing the horrific truth of what happened when she and three friends performed an exorcism that spiraled horribly out of control. Ever since that night, Sofia has been haunted by bloody and demonic visions. Her therapist says they're all in her head, but to Sofia they feel chillingly real. She just wants to get out of town, start fresh someplace else . . . until her mother dies suddenly, and Sofia gets her wish. Sofia is sent to St. Mary's, a creepy Catholic boarding school in Mississippi. There, seemingly everyone is doing penance for something, most of all the mysterious Jude, for whom Sofia can't help feeling an unshakeable attraction. But when Sofia and Jude confide in each other about their pasts, something flips in him. He becomes convinced that Sofia is possessed by the devil. . . . Is an exorcism the only way to save her eternal soul? Readers won't be able to look away from this terrifying read full of twists and turns that will leave them wondering, Is there evil in all of us? From the Hardcover edition.

Cant sleep after finishing the last book. So may as well start another while listening to The Amazing Devil. 🤷‍♀️

Solid sequel! It‘s definitely in the same creepy gruesome vain but less “mean girls” which I can appreciate. I loved the new setting and the new characters and I still adore Sofia. Parts of the ending were predictable like the first but there were some aspects that threw me off. These books are super easy to blow through in a day. On to the 3rd one now!

Ughghghhghhh That ending! I can‘t wait for the next one!! This one was a slow burn compared to the first book but IMO felt necessary for the story. These books are great and they need to be made into horror movies

The creep factor was perfectly high throughout the entire book and the sense of not knowing who to trust. Tue ending to this book was just the perfect icing on the cake!! The pacing, everytning was pure perfection, and that ending sentence!!! It wad definitely an all nighter kind of book. I found myself putting off finishing not wanting it to end

Um, yes, hello, Danielle Vega writes one hell of a good exorcism. I probably should have saved this series for Halloween, but honestly, it‘s just too good to wait.

The first book was so good, but this one was just a disappointment. It took me forever to get through and failed to hold my attention. The ending was a pretty big let down. Just skip it. Read the first one as a stand-alone novel.

I devoured this book in 2 days. I liked it better than the first book. It's less like Mean Girls

It pains me to pan books! In this 2nd installment, Sofia is sent to a catholic boarding school after a tragic turn of events. This book had the same intense goriness that gave the 1st book a page-turning creep factor, but unfortunately all of the characters are so flat, it's hard to feel anything for them besides grossed out when bad things happen. It made the torturous scenes seem gratuitous rather than actual horror. Spoilery thoughts below!

courtney One of the main struggles in the book is whether or not Sofia is actually evil/possessed. However...most of her thoughts/desires are so evil that to the reader its no question. Even her non-verbal grandma speaks only to call her Diablo! The revelation at the end that she's "possessed" seems like a no-brainer. Also, its way too murky to tell if there is actual demonic possession, or if Brooklyn is a figment of a mentally disturbed Sofia's mind. 7y

Wipe boards and photographs hang from the doors, and I hear the faint sounds of talking and giggling behind the walls. Everything seems so normal, so nice, but I've been the new girl more times than I can count and I'm not fooled. High school is hell. It doesn't matter how many cute photos these girls tape to their doors, or goofy messages they write. They're screwed up underneath. Just like we all are.

Missed the memo from the library that I received this ebook. The first one was almost overly violent...and yet I still want to read the sequel. It should be a quick read on this chilly day off. Going to try to pack it in before a manicure, a tattoo appointment, and my office holiday party! 💅🏻🎅🏼 TGIF!

This sequel follows Sofia as she tries to cope with the horrifying events that took place during an exorcism gone wrong. On top of that, she's trying to prove to herself that she isn't evil! I really enjoy Vega's horror novels. I loved the ending to this one and I'm excited for next year's prequel!

[DELETED] 1409720085 I read the first, I didn't even know there was a sequel. I will have to pick it up! 8y
BekahB @emilydecato while browsing Goodreads last week I found out that she's publishing a prequel next summer that will focus on Brooklyn's backstory. I was so excited when I read that! 8y

Cinna thought petting him should be the preferred activity to reading. His momma (Katniss) is next to me thinking the same thing. I'm only 50 pages into this sequel but I'm already enjoying it. Vega's books are like really great B-horror movies; a little over the top but a solid, exciting story.

MrBook My cat likes your cat (and your book, because he likes all books) 😸. 8y
BekahB @MrBook Ha! Yep my cat likes books too. He has his own internal cat logic that tells him if a book is where it's supposed to be on the shelf, it's to be left alone. If it's sitting on the table or left on the couch, it's fair game for him to chew on the corners. It forces me to put my books away😀 8y
