Tomorrow
Tomorrow: A Novel | Damian Dibben
A winters night, Venice, 1815. A 217-year-old dog is searching for his lost master. So begins the journey of Tomorrow, a dog who must travel through the courts and battlefields of Europeand through the centuriesin search of the man who granted him immortality. His adventures take him to the London Frost Fair, the strange court of King Charles I, the wars of the Spanish succession, Versailles, the golden age of Amsterdam and to nineteenth-century Venice. His is a story of loyalty and determination, as Tomorrow befriends both animals and humans, falls in love (only once), marvels at the human ability to make music, despairs at their capacity for war and gains insight into both the strength and frailties of the human spirit. But Tomorrows journey is also a race against time. Danger stalks his path, and in the shadows lurks an old enemy. Tomorrow must find his master before their pursuer can reach him and his master disappears forever. A spellbinding story of hope in the face of despair, Tomorrow draws us into a century-spanning tale of humanity and the unbreakable bond between two souls. After all, what is lost can surely be found

#Roll100 is going to be a solo book.
🎲 85 on library hold
🎲 74 would be Piranesi a repeat from April. Still not feeling motivated to read it yet.
🎲 42 would be Never Whistle at Night. I already read it for a different challenge.

This was a premise about which I was initially slightly skeptical, but I eschewed my cynicism & read on. And I was pleasantly surprised not just by the fact that the premise worked really well, but also by how much I enjoyed this book! It really did totally grab me. Moving & surprisingly thought provoking with a cracking redemption arc for the bad guy & a really satisfying ending. And dogs. What more could you want really? 🐕🐶🐕

I really enjoyed this story. It was magical in more ways than one. I especially loved that it was told from the viewpoint of a dog. This dog and his master were granted eternal life. They were separated for centuries. This is the story of how the tirelessly searched for each other. I‘m a dog lover, so this book really appealed to me. I don‘t feel that you have to be a dog lover to enjoy this story.

Well-written and touching, insightful without being preachy Tomorrow is a must-read for dog lovers. I think dog-admirers and the dog-ambivalent will enjoy the story, too. Dibben‘s descriptive imagery drew me deeper into the story, and there‘s a subtle emphasis on the smells—perfect for the canine narrator. Have your handkerchief or tissues ready, especially through the last third of the book.

Pick
An immortal dog spends a century searching for his beloved master and their nemesis who separated them. Faces adventures, love, and war in his quest.
Has a slow start but quickly becomes engrossing and endearing.

Another book off #MountARC.

I'm jaded. I must be. So many raving reviews for this book, but all I saw were its flaws.

I wanted to like this story of an immortal dog looking for his immortal owner, travelling through the courts of Europe meeting all the big names. But the questions about the plot kept piling up. Like: How exactly does the alchemy work? Where does Valentyne's money come from? Why can Tomorrow see better than he can smell?

Texreader Oh it sounds like it could be so good! What a shame! 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick It really does sound good. Sorry it was a let down. 4y

A lovely book, told through a dog‘s eyes. fundamentally about living life to the full - not fearing the future or dwelling on the past - things we‘ve got a lot of time to do at the moment especially! I do have a tendency to imagine anthropomorphised characters in a rather cartoonish way which was quiet a challenge given the subject matter - war, grief, loneliness - anyone else have this tendency?

This was a curious read. While I loved the idea that there was a way for our pets to live forever with us, this book explored the loss and sadness of separation in that same scenario. #tomorrowthebook #Tomorrow by #damiandibben was an emotive read that I felt exhausted at the end of!

Don‘t bother. Really. ⭐️ out of 5.

I wanted to like this book; the concept— a loyal dog gifted immortality by his magical human companion from whom he is then separated and searches for across battlefields and ballrooms— was great, but I read 120+ pages & nothing happened. Don‘t waste your time or money. DNF

I am of the strong belief that all maps should feature sea monsters. All of them. Lovely end papers to the tagged book. #bookmap
