Five years ago, Corin Cadence's brother entered the Serpent Spire -- a colossal tower with ever-shifting rooms, traps, and monsters. Those who survive the spire's trials return home with an attunement: a mark granting the bearer magical powers. According to legend, those few who reach the top of the tower will be granted a boon by the spire's goddess. He never returned. Now, it's Corin's turn. He's headed to the top floor, on a mission to meet the goddess. If he can survive the trials, Corin will earn an attunement, but that won't be sufficient to survive the dangers on the upper levels. For that, he's going to need training, allies, and a lot of ingenuity. The journey won't be easy, but Corin won't stop until he gets his brother back.

SO GOOD

If LitRPG had a baby with the Harry Potter series & received A Deadly Education … here ya go.

First 1/4 was very heavily game influenced.

An intricate magic system.

An older brother goes in but doesn‘t come out.

Younger brother‘s goal is to find his brother in a magic school where there are occasionally deadly challenges.

Our MC is industrious, curious & inventive. Scrappy!

Easy FUN read! I look forward to book 2!

Sufficiently Advanced Magic is an amazing book, and I suggest it to any teenager or young adult. Not only is this a book jam-packed with wonderful scenes, exiting plot twists, and an amazing story, but this book teaches us valuable lessons about perseverance and dedication. - E. K.

To finish or not to finish 🤔
About 1/5th of the way in. What do you think?

Centique What did you decide? The cover and blurb certainly sound good 🤞 (edited) 5y
Scash1114 @Centique i‘m def going to keep going, but i did put it down for the moment. I also put down Snow Crash which i was reading. I‘ve been trying to get better about not forcing myself to finish books that i‘m not crazy hooked into. I‘ll put them down, and if i keep thinking about them, I‘ll go back. I‘ve still been impressed with this one, so i‘ll pick it back up. Starting Heroes by Stephen Fry tonight👍🏻 5y
Centique @Scash1114 I‘m doing that more as well - putting books down. And I‘m reading myths at the moment too! I‘m looking forward to the Stephen Fry book but I have had this Robert Graves book on my TBR for years so trying that first (edited) 5y
Scash1114 @Centique now i have to have that! It looks great!!! Thanks so much for the suggestion!! My poor poor tbr.. 5y

A friend recommended this and it is free with #kindleunlimited. It is a really fun book especially for gamers and table top roleplayers. But it has an interesting version of magic and a more involved plot than a simple dungeon crawl.

1. Yes. I pick up books based on a nice cover and then read the summary to see if it lives up to it.
2. Not lately. I have a nice porch but not comfortable chairs. I really need a nice porch swing.
3. I almost always finish to a chapter unless at work or no longer able to keep my eyes open.
4. I used to be. Now I read more ebooks and can't find a proper bookmark in the house.
5. Those people so inclined.

@SilversReviews

SilversReviews I love to read on my porch. I have a table out there that works well for reading and snacking. 😍😍😍 Thanks for playing. (edited) 6y

I actually stopped reading this (even though I was really enjoying it) because it wasn't in the Litsy database and I couldn't tag it.

Now it's in the database so I'ma start reading it again. 😜

Its a magic-school/military/dungeon crawl mash-up that has a heckuva intricate magic system. I'm a little halfway through so gonna try and finish it off as quick as possible now. 🙃

Seekingtardis My hubby has this one next up on his tbr pile. Glad to hear it‘s good!! 6y

*edit* it's now been added.

I really wish I could tag this book (it's not in the Litsy database). It's so similar to a videogame RPG and there are so many cool D&D similarities. The magic system is crazy intricate and the characters and plot are developing really well.

Its a spectacular self-pub and I am thoroughly enjoying it! Highly recommend to people that are looking for a story with a very 'gamer' feel to it! 😍😍

GrilledCheeseSamurai Check out this book on Goodreads: Sufficiently Advanced Magic (Arcane Ascension, #1) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/34403860-sufficiently-advanced-magic 6y
Maike Thanks for the heads up, that sounds great! 6y
GrilledCheeseSamurai @Maike It also has the whole 'magic school' thing going on with it. Like Hogwarts...but for the military. ❤️ 6y
Maike @GrilledCheeseSamurai aaaaah nice. Might scratch the Hogwarts AND the Reader Player One itch 6y
