Life is meant to be savored, but that's not easy with no family, limited prospects and a past you'd rather not talk about. Still, Callie Smith doesn't know how to feel when she discovers she has a brother and a sister--Malcolm, who grew up with affection, wealth and privilege, and Keira, a streetwise twelve-year-old. Callie doesn't love being alone, but at least it's safe. Despite her trepidation, she moves into the grand family home with her siblings and grandfather on the shores of Lake Washington, hoping just maybe this will be the start of a whole new life. But starting over can be messy. Callie and Keira fit in with each other, but not with their posh new lifestyle, leaving Malcolm feeling like the odd man out in his own home. He was clever enough to turn a sleepy Seattle mail-order food catalog into an online gourmet powerhouse, yet he can't figure out how to help his new sisters feel secure. Becoming a family will take patience, humor, a little bit of wine and a whole lot of love. But love isn't Malcolm's strong suit...until a beautiful barista teaches him that an open heart, like the family table, can always make room for more.In this emotional, funny and heartfelt story, Susan Mallery masterfully explores the definition of a modern family--blended by surprise, not by choice--and how those complicated relationships can add unexpected richness to life.

I loved how Mallery explores the relationships in this book, she does it so well. Characters that you can't help but fall in love with. This book felt so real that the characters jumped off the pages, and it all played out in front of you. The storyline was heartwarming and emotional. Some of the issues she about normally would weigh a book down, not here,I reached the end, and it was all perfect.

Finding out you have two other siblings conceived while your father was on business trips and have a wealthy grandfather definitely was overwhelming news for Callie and had been very overwhelming for Keira two months ago. Their step brother, Malcolm, had been with his grandfather since he was twelve and was used to the lifestyle and family.

GREAT READ!!

Good summer read. 3 half-siblings brought together by their grandfather looking for family & second chances. Heartwarming, humorous & not too heavy; good family drama with a bit of a Seattle foodie setting-always a plus in my mind.💙My book tour review, paired with (gluten-free) Macadamia Nut & Chia Seed Banana Pancakes with Fruit & Coconut Simple Syrup is on the blog-along with the recipes & a tour-wide giveaway for a Seattle prize pack. I think this is one of Susan Mallery‘s best books. I know complicated sibling relationships intimately, so I was thrilled to see such care given to Malcolm, Callie, and Keira. They struggled at first to even like each other. I love that they never stopped trying to grow closer and build trust, even when they sometimes failed and hurt one another in the process. They had such so much patience and grace for one another. So heartwarming, this one.

Bostonmomx2 I agree, definitely one of her best! 6y

Loved this book about three siblings, who just met and are trying to get to know each other as well as deal with their own issues. Love Susan Mallery and can't wait to read more books by her. Also someone is very spoiled and will lay like this forever. He thinks he is a baby! 🐶📚🐶📚🐶📚

Max 🐱thinks that since his mom is home & sitting down tonight, she should just put her book down and feed him snacks, scritch him, and just generally worship him as he deserves. 😺🍽🐟
So I did for a while before picking this #ARC for review next week back up. Can't resist that sweet face. #catsoflitsy 😽❤️#MaxTheCat

Both of these just downloaded from my library app. I‘m almost done with my current read so not sure which I‘ll read next. Probably the Mallory one. Hilderbrand tends to be really hit or miss for me as she tends to include way too much infidelity in her books which I‘m just not a fan of.
