I‘m finally going to finish Moon of the Crusted Snow as I neglected it last week.
To complete #Booked2019 , I have set aside The Light Between Oceans from last week‘s forecast and will return to it once I complete the challenge.
I‘m excited to read The Gauntlet.
I started Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy this evening. 🎧
The Kitchen is to shake it up and it‘s due at the library soon.

Cinfhen Liar has been on my #ReadersRadar for a long time. Can‘t wait to hear what you think about it 💙 2d
Bookzombie @cinfhen Mine too! I bumped it up after reading Girl in Disguise because one of the individuals in Liar is in it. (edited) 2d

Thank you @Chrissyreadit for recommending this on audio. It was so good! Set in NYC in 1845, Timothy Wilde reluctantly becomes a copper star in the newly formed police force. He is set on the trail of a serial killer when a girl covered in blood runs into him as he returns home. Faye‘s use of the criminal slang of the time, called Flash, works really well. Although set in different historical periods, this reminded me a little of The Alienist.⬇️

Bookzombie Unexpectedly this fills the #politicalintrigue slot for #Booked2019 as politics play a part in the story.
I‘m also a little sad that this is only a trilogy as I already love several of the characters.
2d
Cinfhen Didn‘t know it‘s a trilogy! I‘m definitely going to pick up my print copy beginning of 2020. It‘s been on the #BottomTBR #Booked2020 for too long 2d

Last week, I was a little too ambitious so I‘m just going to stick with finishing my current reads. 🤞🏻

Nute That‘s about all I can ever handle on my plate...just keep reading what I‘m currently reading. I understand. No shade! 1w
Bookzombie @Nute Thank you! 🙂 1w
Soubhiville I want to read A Light Between Oceans. Hope you‘re enjoying it! 1w

Cinfhen I find juggling 3 books, on three different mediums; print, audio, ebook seems to be most manageable for me🙃 1w
Bookzombie @Soubhiville I‘m not very far in to it yet. I brought it and Moon when I stayed overnight at my sister‘s this weekend. Somehow I left Moon in my purse and didn‘t want to go traipsing through the house to get it. Light was in my overnight bag so I read the first few chapters of it before passing out. 🙂 1w
Bookzombie @Cinfhen Gods is on audio and the other two are in print. See my comment above on why I started The Light Between Oceans. 🙂I will finish Moon on the Crusted Snow first. 1w

Cinfhen I started with God‘s on audio but I feel like I need to read the book or at least start with the book because I was having difficulty trying to keep characters straight. How are u finding it??? Are u reading or listening??? 1w
Bookzombie @Cinfhen I‘m listening to Gods too. I find I do have to focus on it more than some audios. I think it might be the words being used for the time period, like “kinchen” over child. It also took me a minute to get the characters straight, but it seems okay now. I‘m only about 28% in though. Audio time had been limited. 1w

I noticed people asking about this feature on Litsy so I thought I would repost the info from @Litsy earlier this year.

From @Litsy :To mute tags, you have to do it on the Litsy website. What you do there will affect the app too. (We plan to include this in the app in the future, but app changes take longer to do.)

To mute tags, sign in and go to https://www.litsy.com/web/hashtags . The page is also found on Settings/Import, at the bottom.

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks This doesn‘t work for me 🤷🏼‍♀️ 2w

Bookzombie Yes, they should show up like in picture as you add them. I enter them with the symbol each time. Hmm, @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks said it doesn‘t work for her so I don‘t know if there are exceptions. If you use Facebook, you could message Litsy on Onward Litsy to have them look into it. 2w

This YA book includes gory deaths and a high body count. I loved it. I finished the last 2/3 in one go. Convicted felons are sent to Alcatraz 2.0 where everyone can watch them on The Postman app. Sanctioned killers are sent to the island to hunt them down and the world is alerted to watch the executions live on the app. Dee is innocent, but will she be able to survive Alcatraz 2.0 and prove her innocence. #Booked2019 #socialmediafocus

I‘m resurrecting my book bowl (I didn‘t have a jar) in an effort to help me focus on books I own. I love and use the library so much that I neglect the books I have on my shelves to read. I also have a hard time picking books from my own shelves so the book bowl will help.

After a bad breakup, cancer diagnosis, and a mastectomy, Eleanor accepts a teacher position in a remote town. Her predecessor has disappeared and was perfect according to the residents, which is a hard act to follow. This is a weird, funny, weird book. Eleanor is a hot mess. It‘s uncertain as you read her unpublished blog, if things are real or in her imagination. This definitely leans more toward Bridget Jones‘ Diary than The Exorcist even ⬇️

Bookzombie with the strangeness and horrific parts. I remembered about half-way through that I wasn‘t a big fan of BJD (book, not movie) and I struggled with this one a bit too. After finishing and pondering it, I decided I really liked it. I‘m still not sure what to think about the ending though. If you have read it, what do you think (please use spoiler tag)? #screamathon 3w
CarolynM I found this one funny to begin with but it made me increasingly uncomfortable as it went on. I've heard it suggested that the cancer had spread to her brain and was causing delusions, hence all the weird goings on. That kind of makes sense and if so, maybe the end is the pressure on her brain becoming too much and shutting down. But maybe not too, maybe she just crashed her car into a bus. 3w
Reggie I have no idea what happened either but what about that vacuum cleaner demonstration? Lol 3w
See All 11 Comments
Bookzombie @CarolynM I have been pondering and I keep leaning towards the theory that the cancer spread and everything is a delusion. There were certain things that made me uncomfortable too. 3w
Bookzombie @Reggie It was creepy! I wish I hadn‘t returned this to library. I find myself wanting to go back a reread certain bits. 3w
vivastory I'm definitely intrigued! I know that @readordierachel had a similar experience with this one 2w
readordierachel @vivastory I did! I'm with you @Bookzombie in that I was dismayed that it was more BJD than horror. The ending tho 👇🏼 2w
readordierachel The cancer spreading to the brain thing makes sense, but I find that explanation so unsatisfying! I really want to believe that one dude was a weird demon, she was possessed, and then being, like, taken to hell on that bus at the end. 2w
Bookzombie @readordierachel I understand. If it‘s the cancer spreading, it‘s something real causing her to hallucinate or whatever. I think I would have liked what you said or that the guy was a demon or Satan trying to have a baby with a human better. I also expected her to have more interactions with other strange people in the town. Basically, I probably wanted more horror. Lol. 2w
Bookzombie @readordierachel I just realized that what I wanted is sort of Rosemary‘s baby. Lol. 2w
readordierachel Yes, exactly! That would have been awesome. Haha. 2w

Mehso-so

I‘m kind of between so-so and pan for this one. The book starts off great and I think Faring writes really well. The setting of a creepy boarding school isolated at the tip of Argentina is perfect. Mavi is on the run and takes the job as English teacher. It‘s really hard to talk about the plot without spoilers. The story is gothic and creepy, and then the twist(?) or big reveal(?) happens and I almost quit. I was confused, but plugged on. ⬇️

Bookzombie I‘m not completely sure I got it all. Maybe I read it too fast. 🤷🏼‍♀️ In the end, I wanted my 458 pages of time back. #screamathon 3w

“I Was a Teenage Apocalypse”
Sadie Ritter thought having a baby at sixteen was hard enough, but things can get worse. She finds out that her baby, Clark, may be the Antichrist or King of Hell, which opens up a whole new dimension of worse. I really liked this one. It ends abruptly so I‘m definitely going to have get the next volume soon. #Booked2019 #comicorgraphicnovel #GraphicNovel2019 #screamathon #screamathonphotochallenge #graveyard

Reggie So are we rooting for anyone in this comic? The human race? The mother? The antichrist? 1mo
Bookzombie @Reggie I guess at this moment, I‘m rooting for the mother, her father, and her kick-ass sister Helen (who is a little psycho), plus the antichrist. It‘s hard not to root for a baby when assassins come at him. Lol. 1mo
Reggie Lol, awesome!! 1mo

A helicopter crashes in the woods outside of Safe Haven, Wisconsin and a terrifying red-ops team is unleashed upon the small town. The killings are graphic and gruesome. The body count is very high. This book is just as unputdownable as the first time I read it and it‘s also not for the faint hearted. #screamathon #screamathonchallenge #murder

Chrissyreadit This sounds good! 1mo
Bookzombie @Chrissyreadit It is, but very graphic. 🙂 1mo
Chrissyreadit @Bookzombie more than the stand? I don‘t mind some graphic, the torture in outlander is my limit, and torture of children- any comparison? 1mo
Bookzombie @Chrissyreadit I haven‘t actually read The Stand yet. I read Outlander, but it has been a while. It‘s not a spoiler to say there is some biting, burning, and cutting up. There is a kid and things get scary for him, but I don‘t recall him being tortured. 1mo

I just picked up a few holds at the library. I‘m adding the tagged book to my #TBR for #Screamathon even though Litsy has mixed reviews.

Reggie What happens at the end of the credits? The girl killer is pushing someone in a wheelchair right? Do you remember who? 2mo
Bookzombie @Reggie I remember that scene but was it at the end? I know at the end there is a groups of kids at another college talking about urban legends and then it reveals the girl is there saying she knows someone who knows someone it happened to. I don‘t have a copy of this movie. 🤦🏼‍♀️ 2mo

Bookzombie @Reggie I just rewatched UL and there is no wheelchair scene. I definitely remember that scene too so I Googled and that scene is at the end of the sequel, Urban Legends: Final Cut. Brenda (the killer from the first one) is pushing the killer from Final Cut. 🤓 1mo
Reggie Aaaaaghhhhhhh!!!!!! Lol thank you. I can go to sleep peacefully tonight. I had looked them up on YouTube but they only show the credits from being on network channels which cuts out for a commercial of what‘s coming out. Lol so frustrating. Thanks, Margie!!!! 1mo

This is a great spooky series, full of adventure and friendship. Ghosts roam the night and are a danger to the living. Only kids can see, hear, and sense the ghosts so they are the only ones who can take care of the problem. #ghost 👻#screamathonphotochallenge #screamathon

I‘m waiting for my hold to come in on the fifth and final book. 🎧🤞🏻

I have already started the tagged book.

I saw Michele Filgate, Melissa Febos, and Bernice McFadden speak about their essays at the San Antonio Book Festival in April and was happy to finally get to the book. I think overall this is a great collection. A few made me smile and others brought tears to my eyes. Over the last few months circumstances have made me think about my mother and our relationship a lot. I don‘t think that this book could have come along at a better time for me.

Bookzombie Read in September. #nonfiction19 (edited) 2mo

The Haunting of Maddy Clare | Simone St. James

Pickpick

I‘m sad that I let this one linger on my TBR for 4 years. I was immediately sucked into this spooky story. Sarah takes a job as temporary assistant to ghost hunter, Alistair. They set off to investigate the ghost of Maddy Clare, who committed suicide at nineteen. Maddy hates men so Sarah must confront her alone. Matthew, Alistair‘s regular assistant, joins them. He and Sarah must uncover Maddy‘s secrets before she destroys them all.

Read in Sept.

Tamra Sounds fun! I was just able to check out the audio. 👍🏾 (edited) 2mo

Joe Ledger #8: I recommend these on audio. Ray Porter is fantastic. Terrorists have found a new weapon to shut down power and plan to release a bioweapon. Joe and the Department of Military Sciences are fumbling every mission and losing confidence. There is mind control and things get crazy. The only negative was that I had the bad guy pegged early on. I also did some fervent praying that Maberry didn‘t kill anyone I love.

The Near Witch | V. E. Schwab

Pickpick

In the village of Near, settled beside the moors, children have begun to disappear. The village‘s fear of outsiders places the suspicion on a stranger who just arrived, but Lexi doesn‘t believe he is taking the children. I ate up this fantasy/fairytale. It is atmospheric and slightly creepy. I love the setting, the magic, and the witches. This is Schwab‘s debut and I look forward to reading more from her. #authoramonth

Soubhiville Yay! Glad you liked it. Cool cover too. 2mo
Bookzombie @Soubhiville I like this cover, but this was rereleased after she became more successful and the new cover is prettier, I think. 🙂 2mo
