Sing You Home
Sing You Home: A Novel | Jodi Picoult
Every life has a soundtrack. All you have to do is listen. Music has set the tone for most of Zoe Baxters life. Theres the melody that reminds her of the summer she spent rubbing baby oil on her stomach in pursuit of the perfect tan. A dance beat that makes her think of using a fake ID to slip into a nightclub. A dirge that marked the years she spent trying to get pregnant. For better or for worse, music is the language of memory. It is also the language of love. In the aftermath of a series of personal tragedies, Zoe throws herself into her career as a music therapist. When an unexpected friendship slowly blossoms into love, she makes plans for a new life, but to her shock and inevitable rage, some peopleeven those she loves and trusts mostdont want that to happen. Sing You Home is about identity, love, marriage, and parenthood. Its about people wanting to do the right thing for the greater good, even as they work to fulfill their own personal desires and dreams. And its about what happens when the outside world brutally calls into question the very thing closest to our hearts: family.INCLUDES MP3S OF ORIGINAL SONGSMusic by Ellen WilberLyrics by Jodi PicoultAll songs performed by Ellen Wilber

Wow did this book make me CRY! Trying to vacuum? Bawling. Trying to go for a walk? Bawling in public 🤦🏼‍♀️. It felt so real (for most of it, I‘ll get to that in a minute) and heartfelt. I will say that I typically come to at least see both sides of the issues in a Picoult novel (she‘s an expert at that) but not in this one….the religious hatred and bigotry of the one side was just horrible! Also the ending was too perfect for reality. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

jodi picoult never fails to write a powerful courtroom scene. as a future music therapist, this plot enticed me before i even started reading. but the story was beautiful on so many different accounts, i honestly just want to read it all over again. the characters were well developed and the message of love resonated greatly with me. by the end i was in tears the final few chapters had my heart in a chokehold. loved it!

good god this poor girl can‘t catch a break! not even halfway through and she‘s already:

a) struggled with in vitro fertilization for many years
b) lost a baby in a life-risking way
c) gotten divorced from her husband
d) had to get a d&c because of the complications from her miscarriage
e) got cancer and needed emergency surgery

like DAMN!

“The difference between people who become musicians and people who become music therapists is simple: a change in focus from what you personally can get out of music and what you can encourage someone else to get out of it. Music therapy is music without the ego—although most of us still hone our skills by playing in community bands and performing in choirs.”

Picoult never disappoints with the controversial subject matter. Didn‘t care for the music selections between chapters, but otherwise, the audio was good!

Wowowow. This book is SO good. I am LOVING Jodi Picoult this year (late to the game I know). She writes about such socially relevant, thought provoking topics but still in a fiction manner and I am obsessed. Literally all I could think about when I wasn‘t reading was what was going to happen next. Highly recommend :)

I‘m looking to my own shelves as I armchair travel the USA and this is the first one that felt dated. The 2011 religious right is so frustrating to me that it was a challenge to finish this in 2020. I‘m grateful that as people we have evolved in favor of gay-rights. I hope the government and courts don‘t devolve.

I have been a very bad litten! But this was my last book (and every other book) of 2018! It was my worst year yet in terms of life events and reading levels - but I also had some amazing moments and books that I am SO appreciative of 🥰 #lifeupdate

On book 5 of 2019, already loving this year compared to last!

Another excellent novel from Jodi Picoult. I found that I could hardly put this book down. The characters were believable and you could really empathise with them. There were many twists and turns along the way and the reader was kept guessing right until the penultimate page. A fantastic read.

Into the silence rips a sound that makes me let go of Max's hand and cover my ears. It is like the strafe of a bullet, nails on a chalkboard, promises being broken. It's a note I have never heard - this chord of pure pain - and it takes a moment to realize it is coming from me.
